Here is a second showcase video, this time showing a successful Syrian armored assault against defending Germans. This was taken from a modified version of the NATO scenario "Bier un Brezel." Some of the better Syrian equipment is on display here, such as the T-72AV equipped with the TURMS-T as well as the BMP-2. This should pain the Syrians in a more favorable light compared to the first showcase video. Hope everyone enjoys!

Yes, it can happen in real life. The dart doesn't "break." It can be eaten away as it bores through armor, and if it loses enough speed passing through the armor then it can be stopped inside a target, but it is quite possible for the dart to continue through the first target and into a second, third, fourth, etc.
Also, the acronym is APFSDS which stands for Armor Piercing Fin Stabilized Discarding Sabot. Sometimes you'll see it as APFSDS-T, in which the T stands for Tracer.

IICptMillerII reacted to Mord in Will Santa Steve ride tomorrow night?
Throughout the past wargamers all over the world (the groggy, semi-groggy and non-groggy alike) have gathered on December 24th, in a far corner of the internet, to await the arrival of Santa Steve. It is a storied tradition that has been passed from father to son, and son to another son, and that son to his imaginary friend, Jim. For what? at least four years now? So, it's time-honored. Like drunken derelicts in a Mexican whorehouse, a whiskey, beer, (or in Emrys' case, egg nog spiked with ex-lax) in hand, they jostle excitedly to be the first to sight the legendary WaffenKringle of the Great Northern East. For they know, with his arrival come tidings of war and what shape that war will take in the following year. It's the kinda joy that brings a tear to a grown man's eye and divorce papers from that same guy's wife.
However, this December an old friend from the desert landed in a LZ that normally would be abuzz with the cries of "BONES! BONES! BONES!" This friend had lost ten years, and gained ten pounds, and looked like a million bucks! Seemingly sated and awash in desert badassery most have turned their attention to blowing the crap out of Syrian crewed T-72s or RPGing a Leopard or three. So, it begs the question, with our old friend to keep us knee deep in cordite and the WaffenKringle elves busy as only WaffenKringle elves can be, will Santa Steve ride tomorrow night? Will all the good little wargamers gather in the hopes that Santa Steve soon will be here? Or will it be the year without a Santa Steve? I for one hope to spy him drudging out of the snowy wilderness, brain-in-a-jar in hand, the pockets of his coveralls packed to the brim with CM news and wargaming goodness. But regardless as to whether it happens or not, I am thankful our stockings were stuffed early with SF2. It was a great ending to a very dry year! Here's to killing it in 2019; Russian winters and Brazilian waxings in North Italia!
    Merry Christmas, Fellas!!

Unfortunately for the stryker and its crew, there is actually a surprising level of real life precedence of exactly what you're describing. I can't remember all the details off the top of my head, but a few years back there was a large exercise being conducted by the US 3rd Cavalry Regiment, which is a stryker unit. During the exercise they blew through all of their spare tires, and then through another full set of replacements. It was a bit of a fiasco, and an embarrassment for the commanding officer (hilariously, his last name was Admiral. So they had a Colonel Admiral as their regimental commander) though this incident was not a one off occurrence. So what you described happening to you in game is actually fairly realistic, albeit likely more on the extreme end of plausible.
All that said, I agree that it is possible that vehicles might be a tad too sensitive to becoming immobilized.

Moderators, this is a general WWII interest piece. If it is not allowed, by all means let me know.
With CM being as much of a simulation it is, many players and scenario designers probably have an interest in the nuts and bolts of the tactics, technology, and equipment in use during WWII.
It took a long time for me to grasp the different ways in which combat units, especially infantry, communicated. Although there is a wealth of info the basics are lost in the pile of highly technical.
I wrote up a bit of a primer for the US Army infantry commo tech and methods here:

This program works for unpacking the Task Force Thunder and Semper Fi Syria campaigns. It will not work with the other campaigns because they are not on the v3 or v4 standard. However when the other campaigns are brought up to date for SF2, this program will be able to unpack them then.

IICptMillerII got a reaction from A Canadian Cat in Marking Mines in CMSF2
I would love to see a vehicle pack for the modern titles that add engineering vehicles. M1s and T-72s with mine plows at a minimum would be enough for me. Dedicated engineering vehicles such as the ABV for the US would be great to have as well, but would likely require a lot more coding work. As a bonus the ABV comes with 2 MICLIC launchers.
By the way, the MICLIC was used as far back as 1990 in a large scale mechanized breach exercise at NTC. Not sure when it was first introduced, but it is certainly in the timeframe of CMSF2. Further reason to hope to see it in the future!

I recommend using a 3rd party image hosting site, such as imgur.com. Upload the screenshot there, then copy and paste the screenshot link into your forum post. It will automatically embed and there is no size limit to worry about.

IICptMillerII reacted to MOS:96B2P in IED Minefields
I think I may have discovered why some minefields have become more difficult to spot.  In CMSF, in addition to AT, AP and mixed minefield, there is the IED minefield.  The IED minefield has nothing to do with the wire, cell & radio IEDs.  It seems to be single AT mine.  I think it is hard to detect because it contains only one AT mine.  Since it only has one AT mine there is also less of a chance a vehicle will hit it while crossing.  (I moved infantry at Fast across the minefield many times with no detonations so I believe it is an AT mine. Also it goes to neutralized after one detonation so just one mine.)
I did some testing with regular engineers and it took an average of seven minutes for the engineers to detect the minefield.  One team of engineers took 30 minutes and never detected the minefield when I stopped testing.  I suspect the opening scenario of the Task Force Thunder campaign as these IED minefields at the opening in the berm.  Since it is a campaign I can't look in the editor to check.  This may explain the behavior about mines that so many players are commenting on.

This is my attempt to create a sand colored T-72 skin. I think they came out well enough to publish. The skin pack applies to all T-72 variants in game. The skin itself is loosely based on pictures of Iraqi armor from the 1991 Gulf War. I liked how the Iraqi tanks tended to look very desaturated and thought they would fit well with the Syrians.
I certainly consider myself an amateur at modding in general, and especially at doing vehicle skins, so any helpful suggestions are welcome. Additionally, if anyone has some suggestions for icons/markings to add in a future iteration please let me know. I've messed around with a few ideas but didn't end up with anything I was satisfied with.

    Thanks for confirming!
It seems that the average behavior is pretty realistic to me, and every now and then one gets some "combat nuance" thrown in. One thing CM does really well is simulating the unexpected that occurs in reality, such as an ATG stubbornly sticking it out despite the punishment, etc. Its always a bit frustrating when its an enemy ATG that appears to be blessed, but I think its rare enough to not be a bug, or unwanted behavior overall.

No worries! This guide is very welcome, even if you yourself are still learning as you go. Having something imperfect but workable now is much better than waiting indefinitely for a potentially perfect guide in the future. Besides, you can always make a revised edition later when you work more of the kinks out yourself. I'll certainly be putting your guide to good use 👍

Yes that would tie in with what I have seen. I tested this with a Green crew and a Regular crew. The Green crew abandoned the gun more readily when 'Shaken' than the Regular crew which tended to stay on the gun.
