  1. IRL I'm pretty sure the Abrams would cut right through the T-90AMs front armor. The T-90's protection is not that impressive, especially compared to other modern tanks, including the T-80. The T-84 Oplot-M is in the game though, so the Ukrainians may actually have a better tank than the Russians, though I know very little of how advanced the Oplot-M is over the T-80UD
  2. Poland would be an awesome addition. I just don't think it is a slam-dunk like the previous entries, just because the previous entries really just require a texture change.
  3. I'm going to go out on a limb and assume that all the blue forces from Shockforces will make a return, with British, German, USMC, Canadian, and the Netherlands forces being mostly already modeled in the previous game. Seems like an easy and obvious add-on. My wallet is ready.
  4. Thanks for this. I passed it around the office and we all had a good laugh.
  5. The activation requirements for this are truly bad. I declare this system to be an affront to software developers everywhere, and the creator of said system can consider himself excommunicated from the Brotherhood of Coders.
  6. Enemy preview spotted. http://www.polygon.com/2014/10/23/7052023/game-predicted-war-in-syria-and-ukraine Load credit card.
  7. What? Why? BFC has made it clear that they aren't going to consider it, so why should I bother? They've chosen their path. I don't feel the need to convince people whose opinion is meaningless. Why would the position you take have any effect on me? This one is easy. The Combat Mission games are fun and engaging to anyone who enjoys this kind of strategy game. That doesn't change the fact that we recently got the ability to turn off the music in a DLC pack. Not even a volume slider, just a button! The game has obvious performance problems, even on high end PCs, because it just isn't efficient with the resources available. The way the game engine renders (not how pretty it looks) is hilariously inefficient. Someone forgot to read OpenGL for Newbies. Good game, bad software. Again, I don't really feel any pressing need to argue against the point that "businesses that sell on Steam go bankrupt!" when all I need to do is point out dozens of counter examples. If your opinion mattered, I would make an effort to change it. None of this is all that surprising. I earn my Republican Tax Bracket Approved™ living swooping in a fixing issues created by intractable baby-boomer management who can't adapt to how software is sold in the 21st century, and business software changes at a glacial pace compared to the PC Games market. BFC wants to keep doing what they are doing, and that is fine. The 4 activation system is very anti-customer, and even avid strategy gamers like myself didn't realize that Red Thunder was being released because Combat Mission games have no presence outside of their bubble, but whatever. BFC doesn't appear to be going bankrupt, so they can keep on truckin' If I don't backup my statement to your satisfaction on this internet forum I am going to be taken to task face to face? Oh no!
  8. BFC is totally uninterested in Steam and have given their reasons. It is too bad, because I am sure they are wrong, but you'll never convince the geriatric cheer-leading brigade here of that. Battlefront is a company of game designers and grognards, which is why they make such good games. Unfortunately, that also explains why their software is so bad and their market these days is restricted to people who bought their previous games. Since Steam is out of the question, another model for improvement might be the DCS model. Ignoring the fact that they managed to put their software on Steam without going bankrupt, DCS is another niche games company with a focus on realism, and they even come from the land of the software pirate (Russia). It hasn't stopped them from having a more customer friendly activation system.
  9. Steam's "indie" page is something they call Greenlight. Publishers can put their games on Greenlight, and if they get enough community support, the game gets "greenlit" and users can start pre-ordering. http://steamcommunity.com/greenlight/faq/ Publishers can participate in big Steam sales events, or not. They also have direct control over their prices now, with the new publisher portal. Would be nice to get an actual review out of Polygon for one of the Combat Mission games, or a feature on Black Sea when it comes, given its proximity to real events.
  10. Of course, I don't think I've seen anyone ever suggest that Combat Mission games be sold at bargain bin prices like some 2-bit dime-a-dozen trash that populates Steam's indie page, so I'm not sure how that is relevant to BFC.
  11. Alright. I've installed CMBN at least twice before (possibly 3 times, I don't remember) since 2011. Over the next 6-8 months I plan the following. - Intel chipset upgrade (broadwell or a 4960x), new motherboard time! - SSD upgrade. I plan on eliminating spinning disks from my desktop entirely - Windows Threshold None of these are likely to happen at the same time, so that's 3 more activations. My understanding is that I have 4 total activations, and the right to beg for 1 more per year, correct? Is that going to leave me with a purchased piece of software I can't use, because I've exceeded the allowed amount of use? I don't like asking for permission to use something I've purchased.
  12. Yeah, something is wrong, just not on your end. Your game is setup properly.
  13. Wow, a lot of gibberish and poorly formulated anecdotes on both sides of a discussion that really has a minimal relationship with the topic at hand, which is a terrible activation system that reduces a purchase to a rental. Do you really think that the people who can't figure out how to do a volume slider made an unbreakable activation system? Combat Mission simply isn't popular enough for pirates to bother. There are better options, but I keep forgetting that BF is a special snowflake that cannot survive where every other developer has gone before.
  14. You don't buy Combat Mission games, you rent them until BFC has decided you don't deserve them anymore. Welcome to DRM. Also, every piece of DRM for every game ever made has been broken, DRM only causes trouble for legitimate customers.
  15. oh man, this was never, ever true. Terrible advice. Get Microsoft Security Essentials or upgrade to Windows 8 and be done with it.
  16. Yeah, they solved it. Apparently more copies to them is multiplying the number of activations the key has. A round about and not well explained way to do it, but whatever. Support was nice and fast. http://battlefront.mojohelpdesk.com/help/article/127854
  17. No, they really haven't. Battlefront makes good games. They are fun, well researched and accurate, and I'll even say that they are good value. The software quality is absolute garbage though. The games are glitchy, they are missing obvious features (volume control!), the control interface is spotty, the installation process is a joke (V 3.0 is v2.20?! Installation order must be rigidly followed to prevent disaster). I've got no problem paying for game upgrades. I think It's a solid idea. I object to the fact that I have to pay $10 to be able to turn the music off in game. That is a silly omission that should have been rectified for free. I like BFC games, I really do. When Black Sea is released, I'll likely have spent more on Combat Mission games than pretty much anyone in this thread, since I've been buying several copies as gifts for friends. I just wish they would step up their game a bit.
  18. nah, this is exactly what the help desk says to do. http://battlefront.mojohelpdesk.com/help/article/127848 I imagine they expected me to add the thing to the cart 4 times, rather than quantity : 4, but whatever. I've already contacted the helpdesk. Now all that is left is the waiting.
  19. I bought 4 copies of the V 3.0 upgrade, so I could distribute keys to my friends. They only gave me one key. Hurray?
  20. I've spent hundreds of hours writing code in Assembler, Intel X86 and Sun SPARC, I've done the boot disk thing on a 486, 286, and Tandy 16, so don't think I'm impressed by the fact that you remembered a few terms from PC gaming 20 years ago. I also don't see how you walking up hill in snow both ways to play games has any bearing on this discussion.
  21. Heh, this is a pretty childish way to go about making your point on the internet. The irony is strong here.
  22. I've been looking for an answer to what may be an obvious question, but I have not found it. How does one with CMBN + 2.0 + CW + Market Garden play a round with someone with just CMBN + 2.0 + CW? Is this possible?
  23. Hahahaha, no... I was just ticked I had to give my credit card to yet another website, a website that tries to get me to install a Toolbar. Valve is currently selling a Dota 2 Companion digital book for $9.99, donating $2.50 of each sale to their prize pool for their next competition. Prize pool is up to $9.3 million... Valve is the 800 pound gorilla, pretty sure they wouldn't bother with any sort of trickery to get a group like Battlefront to jump on board.
