  1. Thanks @BFCElvis. Let‘s hope it works, I was starting to win. BTW, now that you guys mention it: I have seen this before. Years ago during a version change. Another BTW: is there a practical limit for the save game file size?
  2. Thanks for the try, too. I quickly checked the file size. It’s more less the same for the recent files. Mostly 63 MB, though I found one with 65. And I just now tried with a renamed file, but had no luck with it. Sounds like a case for @BFCElvis
  3. Thanks for the try. We are playing since years and Linnett now since months. So, yes, the Version should be the same. In fact, I have another game against the same oppo running, which works as it should.
  4. Gents, I am playing Operation Linnett PBEM since a while now. Unfotunately now after 40 Turns or so, my oppo´s game file does not show up in the saved games list. With a bit more than 60MB it is a larger file, indeed. But up to now, the scenario worked perfectly for us. Does anybody know how to solve that? I don't think that I have ever seen that before.
  5. Nope. At least not noted. I‘ll have a look later and will compare it to my pic‘s. Eh, those were the days. Despite mediocre weather, Waterloo was great!
  6. @LukeFF may blame me once more for changing topics, but I do it again. The discussion reminds me to Waterloo. I have been at the 2015 reenactment and was surprised how flat the famous slope is. Even if one considers, that it lost some height to provide material for the Lions Mount.
  7. Hehehechrrrrchuckle. Yes, I did not touch the question why the battalion commander was up front. That‘s probably for the Brits amongst us to answer. Probably a question of reputation. „It takes 3 years to build a ship, but 300 years to build a reputation for a Navy“ and that sort of thing. And yes, I know the Paras did not exactly know, what they were up against. Plus they had naval arty support. And yes, I know the many Argentinians were not all fighting troops. And yes, I know the Argentinians were probably scared to s..t and cut off from their mainland, too. But I still say, the use of Milan‘s is quite understandable.
  8. IIRC, that happened during the Para Battalion attack on Goose Green. Early on the Para‘s were pinned down and the Battalion Commander killed in a charge, by well placed MG positions. To regain initiative, the Paras took the MG‘s out with Milan‘s. In the end they captured something like 1000 Argentinians. I.e., were up against an enemy of more than regimental size. The Milan use was a big thing in the news back then. But to be honest: Considering the tactical situation (and the strategic situation, fighting with the back to the wall, resp the South Atlantic), I think the use of all means is quite understandable.
  9. Good point, actually. That would be the perfect flavour object for @Aragorn2002
  10. @kohlenklau just started a project to create early war scenarios. IIRC, he plans to base it on CMFI. Anyway, search for his thread or contact Kohl for info.
  11. I think, the „why“ would be pretty obvious, if you would actually read the thread. Otherwise: Who is „we“? So far, Chuck and me discussed my initial remark. But you are welcome to join, if you would like to contribute.
  12. Hm, interesting point of view. I understand Chess much more as a pretty abstract „strategy game“ based on ancient battles.
  13. Thanks for the reply, though I don’t quite understand what you are trying to explain.
  14. Read https://www.g4li.org/steel-panthers-world-at-war/how-to-setup-play-by-email-game.html IIRC, Steel Panthers PBEM was pretty straight forward, as you would expect from an „Igo-Ugo“ game. Though I can’t quite remember, how opportunity fire and reaction moves were handeled.
  15. Contact BFC Customer Support ( @BFCElvis ) and file a ticket. They are extremely helpful people and will try to sort your issues out even on weekends.
  16. Refer to @Erwin post above. The letter he posted was signed on 5th JULY 1944. So, he JOKED that the modern “conspiration believers“ are already working on a new conspiration theory. Namely, that the landings in France happened too early, a month earlier than planned. As a disclaimer in the current stupid times: PLEASE DO NOT TAKE HIS JOKE FOR REAL.
  17. Yeah, very well said. CMx1 was very playable and obviously provided a huge content. After initial doubts, I loved it in those days. But as indicated above, time changes. There are some other games, where I feel the same way. Great back then, but not so any more. To take it to another level: Strange, some games seem to be playable for ever. Chess, for example. Though it lacks visual appeal and „realistic” detail.
  18. As far as I remember, there were a few CMAK scenarios for France 1940 available. Though they used substitutions for vehicles, which were not included in CMAK. I never liked that idea. And, did you consider to play Steel Panthers? That would be a fairly good source for early war scenarios, too.
  19. You really want to play that? Out of curiosity, I fired up my CMAK a few weeks ago. My first reaction was: „Boah, no!“ Though I remember that I liked the graphics back then. But the step back is just too big.
  20. But you forgot the „ Heisenberg‘s uncertainty compensator“, developed in Star Trek, to make „beaming“ possible. In that sense: Beam me up, Scotty.
  21. Yep, I remember that I played some pacific battles with Steel Panthers, but never really liked them. Except for one, where I had naval artillery support from a heavy cruiser. Did not add much excitement to the game, but it was a great show….
  22. Oh, Whow. Until lately, some people would have claimed “it never happend”, “it’s all big lie, “a witch-hunt” and “we won anyway” and just about 20’000 other lies….
  23. Hi Umlaut, A big Thanks! That's exactly what I was looking for. I guess, now it's my turn to do something with it. Stay tuned, "I'll be back."
