  1. I think that there's an opportunity here to get some sales in the 2017 books if they can get product out before Q1 2018. We're all chomping at the bit.
  2. I like the idea of Battalion-Level QBs, and often enjoy putting together the forces, thinking about the map and so on... until the game loads and I have a giant blob of units in one corner that I need to spend half an hour placing. That's before the game even starts! This is made worse as the defender as for some unfathomable reason fortifications are spread all over the deployment zone. It would be so much easier if they were tidily placed in a row, which I think happened in CM x1.
  3. Spetznaz brigades at least for the ground forces. I'm sure when the MP and VDV are added we'll see the lighter formations of the airborne and naval troops. There are also some interesting VV and MVD formations, but that might be beyond the scope of CMBS.
  4. I always thought it was a bit of an omission that the US has IBCTs but Ukraine and Russia had BTR units as their lightest formation.
  5. I picked up the Osprey Title on Lend-Lease and it's a great read. I just wish there was more information on Soviet M10s. That's something I'm very interested in reading up on. Found this - http://www.o5m6.de/M10_in_action.html https://ospreypublishing.com/soviet-lend-lease-tanks-of-world-war-ii
  6. I genuinely miss the large maps of CMx1. Maneuver and terrain certainly mattered much more.
  7. I think that if they wanted to better simulate morale having soldiers be pinned is a much better way to do it than a rout. Even in antiquity everybody knew that the army that broke formation in battle would be massacred. It's as true in a company attack as it was in a phalanx. Even with conscripts I think they'd be more likely to lie at the bottom of their trenches and surrender when the position was taken than head for the hills into a barrage or a hail of small arms fire. As others are saying CMFI is particularly impacted because much of the scenarios and campaigns are attacks against dug-in positions in defensive terrain. Just compare any scenario set at Monte Cassino to accounts of the real battle and you'll see the issue.
  8. ATRs are cheap, easy to use by conscripts, reliable, simple to maintain, logistically very easy to manufacture parts and ammo for, and work in all weather.
  9. SP:MBT's selection of dates, nations and TO&E in the CM engine, on Steam. e: With an operational level.
  10. Interesting. Kevlar blankets are mentioned in the field manual as a unit-level up-armour option.
  11. Very insightful guys, thanks! I'll keep playing around with them, I think part of the problem is that I'm not very good at handling Humvees. I've gotten better at keeping the vehicles from being knocked out, but those gunners drop like flies. e: Is there a "typical" dispersion between vehicles I should be looking for?

  13. Hello all, As some of you may know I recently converted a large number of CMFI, CMBN, and CMFB maps to Black Sea. They've been fantastic and let me really play around with different formations. Chief among those units that I am being acquainted with is the US Infantry Battalion. Most of the elements of the battalion I'm familiar with, but I am having great difficulty effectively using the Weapons Company. I can plainly see that 4 platoons of heavy weapons mounted in Humvees is a powerful and mobile striking force, but I have no idea how to use them. I have tried establishing a base of fire with them, tried maneuvering them as sections, platoons and a company, tried dispersing them out among the infantry platoons. In each effort my results have been much less than say the Weapons Companies of the Russian or Ukrainian BTR Battalions, despite the TOW and advanced optics making the US Weapons Companies much more effective in theory. I have tried reading the field manual - http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/library/policy/army/fm/3-21-12/fm3-21-12.pdf While I get the gist of it, I'm a Canadian soldier by training so some of the doctrine is lost on me. I would really appreciate someone breaking this down either in gameplay terms, or if anyone wants to talk shop, breaking down the key parts of the doctrine.
  14. If someone wants to put this on the repository, just give me a nod. I'm not that tech savvy.
  15. I wish the game differentiated between range and effective range. PPSh might be best out to 200, but let my guys open up at 300 if they need to with less accuracy and stopping power.
  16. My British paras bolting when a few Italian conscripts cause a handful of casualties is also somewhat surprising.
  17. It also makes defense impossible. Issuing "pause" orders works, if you overlook the fact that guns, vehicles and the like won't turn! e: Having show movement paths set to all is amusing as you can see streaks of orange appear as soon as you take even light mortar fire.
  18. Doesn't it feel good to actually have a job for Mountain and Light Infantry Battalions?
  19. That must have been my oversight. Some maps just don't work. Market Garden maps with Windmills and the unique bridges are an obvious example. I suppose someone could delete the bridges and special buildings in BN, and then add the modern bridges and buildings in BS, but that person isn't me! Many of the Italian villages look "off" with modern buildings. If someone is a scenario maker maybe they could go through and update some of the maps, if they wanted to.
  20. I only converted large and huge maps because I like Battalion-level, but if anyone who has played the other titles has tiny-small-medium maps that are really, really good, I'll take a crack at them. Vanilla CMBN maps just flat-out don't work as much as I've tried. I think the issue might be hedgerows, but I'm not sure. I like the screenshots and feedback, please let me know how these maps play out! Personally, it was a very rude awakening to have mostly dismounted US infantry, and Russian BTR formations were a wonderful surprise! e: fav formations have rapidly (and surpringly) become the U.S LRS platoon, loaded in Humvees (1x M2 and 1x Mk17 humvee per squad + attached snipers, JTAC whatever with their own Humvees and plt HQ mounted in the recce Humvees) and the Company from the Russian (New) Recce Battalion, (mix of AGS and PKM, with 3x attachments per squad as each Tigr can fit an additional 2 man team)

  22. welp, that's it for me folks! See you all when there's development news or the next module drops!
  23. The Soviet Union was a multi-ethnic state. All kinds of pockets of ethnic minorities were horrified to see their communities turn to sectarian violence overnight.
