  2. This 208th regiment has S-300, so they are already protecting Kherson in 50-70 km area, while Russians advance in city direction. So, in scenario probability of Russian strike aircraft appearing should be low.

  10. I think, yes. But positions on these photos are also too dense as for usual position layout. Maybe because its defending big city from tank-hazard direction. Looks like its just main line (second of third) of defense behind of forward chain of VOPs. While enemy with big forces will assault first line, reserve troops will occupy this defensive area.

  12. Well... Here another one example of heavy defended position, but for linear defense. Looks like ROP (company strongpoint), thouh may by it's a part of ROP. 750 m along 210 in wide (not counting trenches for BMP in the rear). System of trenches organized aside a tree-palnt. In 460 m in front of trenches you can see continuos anti-tank ditch with ebbankment On other example - at once three types of positions - triangle, solid line and separate angle trances for (half)squad. Pay attention on old craters of bombardment, shells have impacted in a place between trenches in ellipse 300 x 145 m

  15. @Sgt.Squarehead Because of troops mostly move on top of armor there is no problems with places on available 6 vehicles. But if we say about "real life very bad case", that many of companies havn't full mencount. Abscence of 30-50 % of personnel in companies is normal situation for Ukranian infantry now. From oppose side situation is the same of even much worth. ______________ Just example of VOP (ukr. Vzvodnyi Opornyi Punkt or eng. platoon strongpoint) on the hill. Main body of position is 350 x 250 m. System of trenches for circle defense and for fast and cover pass to treeplant,when possibly guard position situates. Main and reserve positions for armored vehicles of platoon and some for added forces (as a rule tank and ZU-23-2) - its placed on a distance in 70-75 m each from other.
  16. Never heard about that. I will say more, many companies now in real have 6 APC/IFV becaue of lack of light armor for all brigades...
  17. I guess you are placing own platoon too dense. Even by Soviet field manuals platoon should defend 300 m of front. In real conditions it's often forced to control in two times more. Alas, CM doesn't allow to split squad more than on two parts in order a squad wasn't hit at once by mortar or artillery shell. Especially, when no blindages. I tried to dig in small hut with flat roof in the "terrain pit" instead blindage. But it is a problem - your opponent will spot digged house during observation of the map and uncovear that there is your fortification.
  18. Like in real life too. "TRP" is created by many prelimainary shots, but must be re-adjusted by new shots every four hours due to atmospheric conditions changes. So, battery can't has 100500 TRPs - then they will continuolsly waste own ammunition to support of existing TRPs.
  19. TRPs is your remedy , especailly if you play on small and medium maps, when enemy advancing can not give a time for artillery targeting. Like in real life. Good example Donetsk airport defense. Artillery/mortars has many "TRPs", so fire was calling much faster and suppressing enemy. If enemy is advancing fast and you havn't TRPs on some line, your only way is to delay their advance, to tie with heavy fire and to target artillery in that place. Also you can use linear protective barrage of different intensivity.
  20. You shouldn't worry about that. In 2014 in order to receive corps level arty support, our troops in avarage wait about 15-20 minutes and about in 1,5 times less for brigade-level. CAS delay could be 20...30+ minutes. Of course, dynamic of real actions is much slower than in CM. Roughly, 1 minute in CM turn can be equal 2 minutes of real fight or even more. So artillery delay in the game in whole is made correctly.

As I have seen that was a gathering point of all forces, surrounded near Ilovaisk. 24-25th Aug after Russian invasion to this town area have withdrew remains of Sector D troops with own supply units. Also HQ of Sector B was placed near Ilovaisk. I read 26-27th in area of base camp were set several minefields by sappers of 91st engineer regiment. Very probably that "frendly mine". But I can't say on 100 % I watched video again - there were several tank shots and 30 mm BMP bursts. But why column turned back, I can't say. I even don't know what episode on video and where it really filmed. I think, forward armored group can't uncover enemy positions and didn't risk to advance in order not to get RPG from ambush. Fighters on video tell each other that "enemy have a time to make strong fortifications". Looks like this was main cause of retreat. Of course, in CM usual player would consider that power of two tanks is enough to direct attack On 13:02 usual tank, but his turret turned on 8 hours. Initially because of camera shake and smoke I thought this is BTS-4 mover armed with MG. About terrain. Yes. Our colunmes drove on open space. Enemy have took positions aside in small villages and low heights. In some places enemy positions were in 100 m aside the road. The sunflower became as sorrow symbol of Ilovaisk massacre. In endless sunflower fields survived soldiers tried to find own salvation...

This is start of moving of UKR troops (army, border guards, volunteers) from the base camp near Agronomichne and Mnohopillia villages some southern from Ilovaisk. Dawn of 29 Aug 2014. All only is beginning. To the end of day most of these guys on video will be already dead, wounded or captured.
  23. In the game you, of course, can use them as you wish In real life these guys often forced to substitute own comredes on platoon strongpoints. But part of HQ can be dislocated in company's rear.
  24. UKR and RUS Company HQs almost equal and have roots in Soviet company battle order. Here for example UKR Coy HQ, which has 8 men + radio operator 1. Company commander - captain. 2. Deputy of company commander (of working with personnel) - senior lietenant or lietenant 3. Senior technecian of company - senior warrant officer 4. Sergeant-mayor of company - warrant officer (logistic duty) 5. Medic-instructor - senior sergeant or sergeant 6. Radar operator - soldier (has SBR-3 portable radar, but in 90 % this duty either abscent or this soldier is using like a... in different purposes ) 7. Senior driver - senior soldier (driver of command BMP/BTR) 8. Gunner - soldier (gunner of command BMP/BTR) 9. Radio operator - soldier (attached from battalion signal platoon for communication of comapny commander with battalion HQ)
  25. Nobody wants to die. If you can't detect source of incoming fire, especially sniper, this can seriously reduce motivation of personnel to advance. Here for you the video with almost similar situation. 10 Aug 2014 - the probe to enter in Ilovaisk. Fighters of "Azov" advance through the sunflower field and turn under fire of enemy snipers and MGs. During all video fighters ask each other "Do you see them ? From where is fire?" They are shelling ruined building, the house nearby (at the end of video in that house ammo dumb is setting fire). On 6:12 famous "Azov" arniored KAMAZ guntruck "Prianyk" (eng."Gingerbread") is appearing. "Move 300 meters forward for better position!", order it commander. Later "Prianyk" will be damaged with incoming fire and will leave the battle (not filmed). Single armor on video - BMP-2 of 51st mech.brigade, which covered "Azov". It's continuously is breaking during the battle and at the end failed completely and was abandoned by crew. "Azov" tried to advance under fire, but lost 3 KIA. The same situation was with "Donbas", which adcanced left from "Azov". They encountered with heavy fortified positions and masked enemy riflemen in tree-plants, which couldn't exactly detect. Thus, again several snipers, MGs and 1-2 82 mm mortars have stopped advance of 200 men. In this day UKR forces lost 12 KIA (4 from "Donbas", 3 from "Azov", 3 from 40th territorial defense battalion "Kryvbas", 2 from "Right sector"). Big trouble of CM - almost immediate uncovering of position of groups, which open fire. As you see on videos, which I upload here, in most cases, soldiers can't detect point of fire and forced just to shoot in suspicious places. And of course if you will try to play like in real life in order to save own pixeltrooppen, you will not throw them through the fields on enemy invisible MGs. Better to see from 1:23
