  1. I'm always interested in different ways people are exposed to military history, particularily World War 2 history. "Yukari's tank corner" is one of those interesting cases where a Japanese show that has become wildly popular about girls and tanks (Girls Und Panzer) exposes a brand new audience (Anime watchers) to the wonderful history of tanks. This comes with the dvd or blu ray edition of the show and is supposed to be watched after certain episodes that introduce new tanks and there usually themed after a major power (Britain, USSR, America). While the information isn't exactly accurate to us rivet counters it has a certain charm to it, and people watching will actually learn something, especially about production and its nuances which impressed me here. Enjoy, and who knows maybe you'll learn something! http://www.moddb.com/groups/tanks/videos/gup-yukaris-tank-corner-episode-1 http://www.moddb.com/groups/tanks/videos/gup-yukaris-tank-corner-episode-2 http://www.moddb.com/groups/tanks/videos/gup-yukaris-tank-corner-episode-3 http://www.moddb.com/groups/tanks/videos/gup-yukaris-tank-corner-episode-4
  2. You obviously didn't read to deeply into that story because there's a very good reason Tirpitz was forced into that Fjord. (No malice intended, I know that first part may sound a bit snippy) What were they going to do with it when the RN and the RAF were hunting it down mercilessly, they never accomplished anything because the brits were on top of all of Germany's surface raiders rather quickly.
  3. Yes I took that into account when responding to your post. How would NATO or the UN get Russia to hand over "its" territory after a loss in Ukraine?
  4. There is no way Russia would give up any territory like that, even if the UN says so.
  5. Guys take this suvorov/ww2 discussion somewhere else, you are derailing what is a very interesting thread.
  6. Air dominance isn't something easily achieved even if the opponents air force has been destroyed. Russia after defeating Ukraine's air force will have to carry out a concerted SEAD/DEAD effort on a moving front line, this coupled with IR threats in the form of manpads and SPAAA could lead to a war of attrition the Russian air force is not interested or capable of keeping up with. Fixed wing aircraft will obviously have an easier time if proper SEAD has been carried out on the majority of Ukrainian SAM's but that certainly isn't a given. These kinds of AA threats make rotary or low flying CAS almost not worth the risk, especially at a tempo that Russia would need to keep up with a large commitment in terms of troops across a large swath of territory. Edit: Forgot to mention that Russia's lack of smart weapons also makes lower flying CAS necessary for accuracy, ESPECIALLY in the CAS role where you don't want to hit your guys.
  7. Defeats and encirclement's of that size would require a large Russian commitment in terms of troops and the ability to maneuver over large parts of Ukrainian territory. This opens them up to more casualties and leads to what Steve has been talking about in terms of domestic and economic issues back in Russia.
  8. Hehe yeah I know the reason, just ragging on it for fun. Honestly I would love to experience a (simulated) beach landing from an amphibious assault ship in one of those things.
  9. That feel when you hope the marines next amphibious assault vehicle doesn't look like a bath tub, but than you see its replacement and it still looks like a bath tub only shinier.
  10. I saw the VDV guys riding on the B3's before they got beat up pretty badly, I had no idea Russian marines were involved as well.
  11. Morale is a huge part of this to, what is the Russian soldier fighting over there for? How does he feel about the fact his government continues to deny the truth of there deaths in a conflict it started and doesn't have the decency of saying to the families where and how he or she died? A Ukrainian soldier knows exactly what hes fighting for, the existence and survival of his nation post cold-war, he doesn't want to go back to being in a satellite/puppet country, that is a much stronger motivation that a militiamen to a battle hardened soldier can understand and hang onto.
  12. Thread will now lock in... 3 2 1... Ah screw it one last jab! I would rather have a president that isn't sympathetic to Russian strongmen and oligarchs, who knows where Crimea is AND doesn't want foreign governments hacking US officials! Oh and you know the whole Trump U scandal...and the going bankrupt over 3 times thing...and the muslim ban...and the wall...and the not guaranteeing protection of NATO allies we've had for years...and the fact he probably doesn't know what NATO stands for...
  13. Heres an olive branch for you that will probably make you get the point. I know for a fact that Putin is a smarter leader than Trump is, for all the awful things Putin has done he doesn't get the stupidest presidential candidate award.
  14. Trump doesn't like Russia because of who you are as a people, he likes Russia because he makes a lot of money from your country. He would have no problem hating on you tomorrow if for some reason a business deal fell through, he is not a competent leader and I really think you should read up on him before you start fawning over him.
  15. I'm sure that one of Trumps previous contenders for his VP slot said that Estonia was basically a suburb of St Petersburg really helped in terms of "pressuring NATO members to do there part". All it does is make us seem insane and destabilizes the entire region. Its nonsensical babble by people who have no idea how foreign policy works and want votes.
  16. That's great to hear Steve, looking forward to CMx3.
  17. "THE @#**&ING RUSSIANS BEAT US TO PIKACHU, GET THAT FAC OVER HERE!"
  18. The German AFV industry was dispersed across the country making it difficult to entirely shut down production.
  19. While its nice to throw around the 1200RPM line when talking about the MG-42 it was rarely ever used to its full potential in that regard. German soldiers recognized how stupid it was ti fire at 1200RPM for all the reasons listed above. I believe it was even limited to 800-900 during the war or was that just in training?
  20. While its nice to look at with an optimistic view, I believe the reason we lack so many 3rd party scenarios is that there aren't too many people interested in doing them.
  21. Doesn't seem to be going to well for the coup side.
  22. You worded it fine he just missed it. Nice post on an interesting piece of kit thanks BTR, with more testing BFC will probably take a look at it!
  23. There is no way to tell other than it not firing at you anymore.
  24. Its hard to tell if hes a troll or not.
  25. The M1 Abrams represented in Black Sea is not intended to be the SEP V3, I'm also skeptical of this LR receiver claim because last time I saw Panzer said they were not installed on any vehicles.
