  1. ^^^ Reminds me of my little brother when we were growing up. "Are we closer to there or to home now"
  2. As a Beta tester let me just address a couple of things. I don't argue with people about subjects like this. Can't really say anything of substance anyway because of non-disclosure so there's no point. Secondly, as far as being "directly affiliated", I do the Beta testing because I like the series and want to help make it better. And I have a Mac which puts me in the minority, but useful for testing. There are several of us Mac beta testers but more PC based. But I just do it for the fun and diversion. I don't get anything out of it. In fact it cuts into my recreational gaming time, but I'm an engineer and enjoy solving problems and testing. That's it. The only time I tend to add something is when I can say something positive like for example for SF2, all the maps being redone - features that have already been disclosed by Steve posting a bunch of our screenshots of the Beta version that clearly show something, or that he has specifically mentioned. (again, I don't want to run afoul of any non-disclosure issues).
  3. How do you know it won't be? (Mind you I don't know that it will be, for that matter).
  4. That's actually what we tried to do with all those screenshots Steve put up on the SF2 page. New vehicle textures, uniforms, terrain (maps are much nicer)..

  6. When we got a new division commander, he told us all "If we ever go somewhere for real, it will be at night, overcast, and no moon, if we can. So get used to it." We never made a jump in daylight again. Always at night. Dark. Really dark. Sometimes (more times than seemed possible for the laws of averages) in the rain. Not fun. Not at all.
  7. ^^^ best and most intelligible post in this thread. (I have no idea what it's all about either)
  8. I would guess yes, because the upgrade is still a full, new installation, just at a discounted price for owners of SF1. But that's a guess at this point. I can't see why it wouldn't. You are essentially buying the exact same product at a lower price.
  9. Yes. And between all those new QB maps and the upgrade of the whole QB system to work the same way as the rest of the current titles, that alone is worth the upgrade, IMO!
  10. Scenarios updated with upgraded maps, better and more AI plans, and in some cases force changes for better play/balance. Same scenarios are there, but in many cases will be a new experience.
  11. The same in QB I believe. I was comparing the two when we had the mortar ammo discussion.
  12. The key is to check that little box on the Sharefile site to be notified of any new additions. Then you find out before Steve can get to posting that it's up. Of course, it depends on being home to download it. Being semi-retired, that usually works. (not that I've been first more than once or twice )
  13. I would think once a day max would do it. Unless like us beta testers you like to get in on the competition to be first to download each new build.
  14. Of course not always true, however we tended to lose one vehicle on every heavy drop. That's a much worse record than personnel drop on average.
  15. We had this list back in the late 70s and 80s. Our division commander in the 82d Airborne was a big believer in Murphy's Laws. One that is missing from this list compared to what I have is "Tracers work both ways". We added a personal one too. "The parachute on the Battery Commander's jeep trailer will always streamer in" Well, not always really , but it happened once and it was hilarious (to everyone but him - he wasn't terribly well liked). All his personal gear and living equipment scattered over a 100 yard radius. BOOM!.. Unfortunately the #3 gun came down without a chute that same jump. That was a worse loss. Thankfully personnel parachutes are more reliable than Heavy Drop chutes.
  16. It's a natural log function, which is asymptotic, like radioactive half life. Half of the remainder is decayed away in the next half-life time period. But as you show, it's never all gone (because the numbers of atoms in anything are eye-watering - law of large numbers says those random decays even out over large numbers of atoms - hence why half life is accurate even though decay is a random probabilistic process).
  17. Another engineering axiom. There is "Good", "Cheap", and "On Time" You may have any 2, but NOT the third.
  18. I was in real life (a cannon cocker - FIST Chief, Btry Fire Direction Officer, Bde Fire Support Officer, and Arty Bn Fire Direction Officer). Although it's been a while, for preplanned fires your comment about delay times, from my experience, is the case. The fires would be timed toward expected movements. Having things in 5, 10, 15 minute intervals is about as close as you could think of for someone arriving at a specific location, or be ready to jump off from a LD while the fires are underway. I get the point about "gaminess" thinking that it's 5 minutes into the game so take cover, but I never timed anything to the minute. For on-call fires of course, we would calculate and get rounds downrange ASAP. That is UNLESS the call for fire requested some particular time on target. That would be a very unusual situation though. Normally on-call CFF is someone in need of assistance NOW!!
  19. First a couple of Reserve guys, second a group of Militia. Reserve Bns come with mortars, MGs AT weapons(RPG sections), grenade launchers. Militia just have rifles. No support weapons.
  20. Pardon what may be a dumb question but are you sure you didn't input the regular BS license again and not the Battle Pack (it has it's own key)? Sorry if this is insulting but I've done things like that myself any number of times.
