  1. One of the companies that we got some COTS radiation analysis software from - small company - called me their Charlie tester. Just when they thought they'd covered everything I'd stress the code a little farther and find something no one thought of. To be fair to them, I was finding new ways to use their code on unique problems, so they aren't really to blame.
  2. At work one of the programs we use for radiation analysis has been around in some form since the mid 60s. Of course then, our mainframe had 64K of main memory and they had to pull all kinds of tricks just to have room for the data the program used (there are still places in the program where 3 numeric variables are stored in one program variable - too hard to unravel and it work. The programs has grown (just a little - about 150,000 lines of code now, not including the GUI, 2 satellite programs for pre and post processing, and a 3D visualization program, maybe a total of 500,000 lines in all). The original developer, who is one of the smartest engineers I've ever worked with, would say as a joke "We just fixed the last bug in GRAD" Every few months. Every one always got a laugh. Our group wrote/writes most of our own software, usually 2 people working on that one, 1.5 on a different suite. We thoroughly test the new features, do extensive regression testing, distribute to 2 national labs who also run their own tests. Still find bugs now and then. Seems there's always some odd combination of configurations that didn't come up before. The only similarity to CM is the scale of the operation. Completely different kind of software (scientific computation), and no beta testers Just an anecdote, no commentary.
  3. My bad. That was a different scenario that was fixed and posted. The Semper Fi fix is coming in the 2.01 update. Soon.
  4. Not what I meant. Steve posted a FIXED SF2 Marine campaign. I'll see if I can find the post.
  5. Have you downloaded the new Semper Fi campaign that Steve posted? It's supposed to have fixed that problem.
  6. OK, Mantised this #7829 under game engine.
  7. Yeah, I was doing a couple of quick battles as Syrian Army with some MG.s vs Germans with Fenneks. Never saw that with the Fennek but you'd have to have the right circumstances. Did see it with the MG in a foxhole (technically the MG was just outside the foxhole). In any case, it appears to be a limitation of the game animations rather than a bug.... I think.
  8. I think what happens with the MG team, is that the barrel is pointed where the unit is facing. The MG however, will fire at things left or right of its facing, and the barrel only changes direction when the unit changes its. If you play a turn like that with that unit selected you can watch that happen. The vehicle MG I haven't been able to duplicate but I suspect it's something similar.
  9. Thanks. Now I see. Had to zoom in on the pictures. I'm running a quick battle right now and I'm not seeing anything odd with the Fennicks. Still watching.
  10. Yes, can you describe in words what we are seeing and what the problem is? Not sure from the pictures.
  11. The only thing I can think of is checking the license you are using. Did you go back and retrieve the v3.0 license from when you originally bought it? If you are using the new license that came with the 4.0 update, that could be the issue. The engine 4 upgrades came with new licenses. Apologies if this is pointing out the obvious and you already had it that way.
  12. It's no problem at all. I have 2 FI's right now - one for the 4. patch testing, the other for the new FI module beta testing. I just have renamed the top level directory.
  13. I agree with the NATO recommendation however, both the UK and USMC expansions come with a number of scenarios (a dozen-ish each or so) plus a campaign. There is plenty in each expansion, but I agree the NATO one brings lots of new vehicles and several countries, plus a few campaigns.
  14. In a perfect world, sure. That's what we do at work. In this case that would require testing each scenario and each campaign scenario 16 times (if I figured that correctly - combinations + Mac and PC versions) to check all the installation combinations, each time having to uninstall and re-install SF2 and relicense it. That could obviously be broken down into assignments but still..... there aren't a large number of people testing scenarios. It took long enough with different people checking different scenarios. One item along those lines slipped through and it's being patched as we speak. That seems not so bad. YMMV of course.
  15. The SF2 patch fixed a few specific bugs that were noticed after release. The case of the Marine campaign for instance wasn't noticed because apparently it only shows up if you don' t have all the modules. As far as I know all the beta testers have everything, so we didn't see it. Obvious candidate for a quick update. The "patch" that has to work for all the titles and is a separate thing.
  16. You posted this as a reply in the thread where Steve said it would be right after SF2 release.
  17. The biggest ill effect was infantry under fire fleeing from a covered position (building or trench) right out into the open to be mowed down. I think the behavior is much better now.
  18. I don't recall any Canadians in MG scenarios. Quite a few British scenarios. I think the MG scenarios are a more or less even split of US and UK based scenarios. But the answer to coachjohn's question is that they are each independent. Both are great additions.
  19. It's not an easy one. Having play tested this for George, I can say that I got my a$$ handed to me at first, before starting over with a more prudent approach. Slow and steady wins the race. The defenders are well situated to foil any rash moves.
  20. There's that too ^^^^ If you like the Russian front, RT is great, and more content is on the way. And there are also a lot of user created scenarios and campaigns. You really can't go wrong. Each has its "personality"
  21. I would go with the region/period of WW2 that you are most interested in. Battle of the Bulge interest _ can't go wrong with FB. Normandy to Arnhem - CMBN big bundle - tons of content by adding CW and MG in the bundle. Campaign for Italy your thing - FI/GL is fun and there is a third module in the works. I go with your "favorite" part of WW2.
  22. Yes. What scenario, and maybe an overall view showing which building? There were issues with that type of damage that got fixed during beta. Could be there is some odd combination that still shows up. I had checked that it was working correctly by blowing up numerous buildings just to see the textures.
  23. Don't know why you say you are surprised. No one above implied anything but respect for the other services, and just good natured ribbing, which comes with almost everything in the military. It's pretty obvious from the subsequent comments no one thought you implied anything like that.
  24. Halt Hammerzeit I've done well as the Germans. The key to that one is to make good use of fire support to pulverize likely looking defending positions on your way to the objectives, otherwise you'll pay and pay badly. That's about all I'll say there so as not to give too much away.
  25. When I was in Artillery Officer Basic School at Fort Sill, after many classes, some Marine lieutenant or captain would say, "OK, after class I want to see all the Marines in the corner and I'll explain what of all this nice stuff we DON'T have." Marines attend artillery school at Fort Sill with the Army. I had the fun of living on the floor of the BOQ where ALL the Marines lived. We had a blast. Great guys. Lots of inter service rivalry but all in good fun. Most of all, I want them on my side.
