  1. Just wanted to say as one of the play testers, I thoroughly enjoyed this scenario and recommend it. It's a good challenge for the Germans and graphically it's just great. So much detail.
  2. I think the German in my case held back a bit and was able to pick off my tanks from the high ground on the German side. Every time one of mine moved - BOOM. I don't think mine even got many shots off.
  3. Wow. This is almost EXACTLY what I did and I was massacred. All of the overwatch tanks were taken out and as soon as the "assault force" got to that small treeline at the right center they were also destroyed within 3 minutes, most without getting of a shot. They hauled ass to get to that spot quickly too. Maybe it just wasn't my day. :-)
  4. Well, as a Russian H2H loser, I've only played it once and from the Russian side. Now that I have that learning experience under my belt, I feel that I could do much better as the Russians a second time around. Of course that is partially because I'd know what's coming. I *thought* I had a pretty good plan, but my armor was pretty much mowed down by long range fire from German armor. Almost every hit destroyed a tank -fireballs and smoke plumes everywhere. Not a pretty sight. This was with my most frequent opponent and we seem to be pretty evenly matched in skill. Not sure what happened then if everyone says that the Russians *should* win.
  5. Assault on the potato sheds on the Russian right was going ok, until up pops a &*%$#*& King Tiger. I think I've hit it about 5 times from pretty close range and all it did was back up below the rise. (that after I lost about 5 T-34s trying to get closer). Grrrr! Still haven't got the flak wagon to die yet. Maybe I can knock down the building it's hiding behind. I have to say this one is a fun challenge.
  6. It was intended to be. I can't think of a CM scenario where I was so quickly shredded. (but I don't want to publish any spoilers)
  7. Good luck to ya' Bootie. I played the Russian in this one H2H and was slaughtered. So badly that I surrendered very early because I had pretty much run out of tanks.
  8. Right now my opponents flak wagon (whatever it is - Flak on a truck?) is giving me fits and I haven't been able to get off a decent shot at it. But yes, the King Tiger is a beast. Still playing. Seem to be pretty heavy losses on both sides. (at least from what I can see of his). I'm Russian and I'm trying to advance on the hill on the German left. He holds the buildings there (or what is left of them at this point - do you still get the points if I knock them all down? :-) ). Good battle. Very satisfying, so kudos to the designer.
  9. Since I use Dropbox for synchronizing data between computers in my real life job, the government already has the info, since my research is for the NNSA. :-) And then the rest of the space is used up by CM. They can have fun playing if they want to run the turns
  10. Saying that though, all of them have small scenarios. Yes more for CMBN. And you can always make quick battles to suit your tastes with any of them, so if it was me I would pick the theater that interests you the most, if there is one. If not, yeah, go with CMBN.
  11. This is good advice that is sometimes hard to follow psychologically. We want to get on with it :-) The time limits on scenarios generally are generous enough to approach, scout a bit, support with some artillery if available to suppress or smoke, and attack (assuming of course you are on the attack, but I guess going slow on defense isn't really a problem). Take your time to ensure your troops/vehicles arrive at where you want them to assault from using the advantage of whatever cover, or folds in the ground are available. Not always easy in RT compared to BN, where the hedgerows block a lot of LOS. RT is more open, even where there are trees.
  12. Playing it right now. Lots of tank carnage on both sides (I'm the Russian in this one). So far I really like it. I've made a couple of foolish moves that cost me, but I also was set up well to deliver a few costly blows of my own (at least as far as I can tell). Good scenario. So far the best one I've played of RT (when I say best, I mean that I like it the best, not to offend any designers out there).
  13. Real time can be fun in some of the nice small scenarios, where you can keep track of what's going on. Once they get bigger though, you spend most of your time panicking trying to stop disaster from striking here, no over there, no over THERE.
  14. Never mind what I said about camera options. I read it wrong and just assumed you were talking about CMBN.
  15. There are three (I think) options for camera move controls. One of the others might suit you better. I only use the default so I can't comment on the others. Check the manual and the options screen for the other choices (I may be wrong about 2 others but there is more available than the default)
  16. Easy. You can post here and should get a few responses. Also check out The Few Good Men http://www.thefewgoodmen.com/ The Blitz http://theblitz.org/ Both have forums where you can find opponents along with ladders and multi-player campaigns. Also, for CM - the use of DropBox and CMH greatly eases PBEM play. Both are free. CMH is Combat Mission Helper and is available here: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/jvh9sx2zla2k0eq/S6LZaVAw_7 (I think this is the right place)
  17. Just a quick thank you to all who have made scenarios for RT. There are a bunch in the repository now. Just went on a download spree and looking forward to trying out some of them. I know it takes lots of time and effort to make them. Just want you all to know your efforts are appreciated.
  18. Good idea. Have to try this. They are too brittle otherwise.
  19. Slowly, hull down, covered approaches. And then that's about the time mine explode from something that saw them first. I've found it much more difficult and deadly to recon with vehicles than with infantry that can stay undetected a little better.
  20. Or failing that, PM me. I have room and time for another game and would be happy to take you on. If you haven't used them I can help you get set up with Dropbox and CMH which makes PBEM a breeze. I have all the CM modules and also all the SF modules so whatever you'd like to play, I'm up for. Pace of the game doesn't matter to me. I'm happy enough going slow if thats what you need as I have several games going. The Few Good Men is a good place to find opponents, as is The Blitz. There are probably others too but those are the ones I've used.
  21. I will agree with this. When I was in the 82 Abn we spent a month with the Cdn Para Regt. Wonderful hosts and top notch soldiers too.
  22. I have HOI3 - I haven't done much with it. At the time I got it I was too busy to put enough time into it. I enjoy AGEOD - Civil War (don't have CW2 yet), and Napoleon's Campaigns. (need a -2 for that too!) Command Ops - both Bulge and Market Garden are fun Command: Modern Air / Naval I spend a lot of time with. Flashpoint: Red Storm is good for modern - kind of a modern version of Command Ops. A bit hands off, but it is designed as a operational level - so once you give orders, units take over on their own. Like Command Ops it has a good and believable AI (I think).
  23. Count me in for testing if you need me. I have a MacBook Pro, 16GB RAM, 1GB video, so it would give you a Mac datapoint for performance and graphics. I'm semi-retired so I have the time.
  24. I'd be happy to give you a game. I'm very relaxed. I have a few games going but always with opponents who like myself, are not hung up about a turn a day or whatever. We play at whatever pace life dictates. So if you want to get started, pm me and I'll be happy to help get you going with H2H and using dropbox and CMH to make things really easy. It's also a good idea for beginning H2H play as it gives you time to ponder and not have to rush to return a turn. I wouldn't worry at all. You can easily find opponents who will accommodate your life.
  25. Yeah, and they are like that in real life too. I served in the 82d Airborne, and had some contact with British Paras, and spent a month with the Canadian Parachute Regt when it still existed. Outstanding troopers, all of them. You want them on YOUR side :-)
