  1. I don't know what the AI logic does in the game, but for background, the FO calls a fire mission that includes a description of the target (inf co in the open, inf sqd entrenched in treeline, that sort of thing). The fire support unit, whatever it is, will decide what to fire, based on that description, their support role, ammo situation, and competing requests. The FO always has the option to call for a repeat if the initial fire mission was not effective enough. This is based on my experience as a FIST chief back in the late 70s, in the 82d Airborne, where our artillery methods weren't much different than in WW2 or Korea - all manual, no computers, no GPS. The main difference is that the FIST organization puts an enlisted FO with each infantry platoon and the LT with the company commander constantly, instead of just the one FO per company when and if attached as it was in WW2.
  2. And as Schrullenhaft noted, the installer will temporarily hang at the verifying step. It will seem like it's frozen. Wait it out (a minute or two) and it will present a message saying that it cannot verify that there is no malware. Open System Preferences, Security and you can select open anyway. There will be a second window come up about opening anyway. Be careful here - the blue highlighted default is set to "Cancel" Push the "Open" button. After that, everything will proceed normally. I've had Catalina installed from issue and been doing a ton of Beta testing and there are no issues that I've seen. All of the games work fine. I tested that each installer worked under Catalina. Good luck. If you have any problems or questions feel free to PM me. Dave
  3. Yeah, that was a good one. And I played it the first time as the US in a PBEM game. Loads of fun and nail-biting.
  4. I think what changed is that the default when you open the EDITOR to load is now alphabetical. It didn't used to be. It always seemed random and I had to search through it to find what I wanted. Not so bad for FB, or Black Sea, but BN with all it's add ons has a loooong list of battles and they aren't in any particular order that I can tell in the Editor, Load.
  5. One bonus of this scenario is that there are several AI plans. It doesn't play the same way twice, and it's a good one to play from either side. So if you play once, and then think you can redo it knowing the enemy plan, watch out!
  6. Ah, memories of England. I lived in the northwest for several years but about once a month had to go to Rolls-Royce in Derby. We always went out to the Gurkha Himalaya restaurant. And EVERY time I got the Chicken Chili Masala (red chili sauce). SOOOOOOO delicious. Before we went to live in England I wasn't much of a fan of Indian food. After being in England a short time I realized that was because I never had any GOOD Indian food.
  7. Inside the Black Sea directory should be a script that is titled "Activate New Products" Either Mac or PC it should be executable so you should be able to double click on it and get a dialog that will have a white box for entering the serial number and a button at the bottom that says ACTIVATE. Copy and paste in the serial number and click the activate button and you should be good to go. (I have a Mac but I think it works the same way on both).
  8. That was the original plan, but a number of scenarios were added as the development time lingered. A bonus of the delay!
  9. Playtested this a few times from both sides. It's always been a battle for that hill no matter which side I'm playing.
  10. This is a good one. It's balanced and it's difficult from either side. Also, Casili Road for a more armor centric meeting engagement. Great fun. Good challenge from either side of the map. Just to pick a couple of my favorites from playtesting. I also like Too Close for Comfort from the German side. It's very difficult, but a manageable small number of units and a tough tactical challenge.
  11. Can you provide more information, Mac or PC, anything else running at the time, anything you can think of so we could try to duplicate it possibly.
  12. Using the face command always faces the front of the unit, whatever it is, to where you point. So for an Archer you just have to set the face command 180deg from where you want the gun to point.
  13. Ah, playing that one right now as the Germans. I playtested it a number of times as the French, as it evolved. Now I see what I was up against. Interested to see what the French AI throws at me. It's a fun one. Well, they all are. As Elvis said a while back, something to the effect of how varied and interesting a group of scenarios it is. The campaigns are good too.
  14. That's pretty much what I had in mind after thinking about it. Never tried that but might have to. Sounds interesting. i haven’t thought of doing it this way before - never occurred to me to mix and match like that.
  15. I think you are right. All the QB parameters have to be set all at once.
  16. Yes. This needs to get pinned somewhere: 1. Right click on the installer and select Open. That will skip the step of authorizing it in System Preferences 2. It will begin verifying. This takes a few minutes. Wait it out. It will appear stuck when the progress bar is about 2/3 complete. It's ok. It will finish. Fix a drink or a snack 3. Depending on whether you've updated to Catalina or not you'll get a message that Apple can't verify it free of Malware. But you can click on the Open button (be careful to not just hit enter because the dialog has the Cancel button selected in blue by default. 4. Once you've done that you'll be presented with the familiar regular installer window. As for why it's this way, you'd have to ask Steve for details. I have a couple of astronomy planning programs and they have similar issues. The developer of one of those has said for a niche program it's expensive and a pain to get it done and not worth it to him. That's his view. He vouches for his software.
  17. I would try reinstalling the patch if you haven't already. Or if you did the all in one download, try reinstalling that. I'm pretty sure all the ..... 210.brz files were installed by the patch.
  18. After reading about it and being educated by a couple of other testers, the idea was for a sort of ambush position, the vehicle could get out to the rear quickly, even considering the driver having to jump back in. Less vulnerable in an "advance to the rear" situation. Also because it was built on a Valentine tank chassis it kept the overall length down. It's a really quirky AFV. I didn't know anything about it until it was added. I agree with Elvis there too. That's a fun scenario. Really different.
  19. Everybody does. Oddly enough, that's the way the real one was designed.
  20. I posted this to the FI Beta forum. The OP is correct on all 3 catches and it's been reported (there is a application for entry of bug reports). And yes, the reason Brummbär Game was changed from its original form - Elephant Game - is exactly that - the availability of the Elephant in R2V and making R2V independent of GL (edited to match John's comment below) I don't know if there is a spreadsheet as you suggest. There may be. A couple of people did most of the TO&E work.
  21. Nope. But I'm on a Mac. I don't recall anyone mentioning that offhand during testing.
  22. A lot of the bug testing to death was to get the TO&E to work. It's *possible* you may need to play around a lot with dates on QB setups to get the vehicles you want, because a lot of work went into not only having all the correct formations and vehicles, but also the dates that they would be available. Playing around with some QB setups I don't see the "latest" versions either. Yet.
  23. The module was released yesterday. No one has had any chance to modify any mods for it yet (In Beta we remove any mods we have so we know any issues are truly game related). My opinion would be to get it, and when and if mods are developed or fixed, then add them. You still have all of Aris vehicles, plus flames, smoke, terrain tiles, and others that do work. There are some new vehicles that obviously won't have mods yet, but the skins for various country's versions of M4's with their correct country markings, for example, look pretty nice as is. The other thing is Booty is currently working on the CMMODS site and they aren't all there, from what I can see. (like gridded terrain I don't see anywhere). They still exist and he's getting things organized.
