  1. Just let it go guys. His issue was addressed regarding QB and the AI's affinity for AT guns which will hopefully be taken care of via a patch. Going back and forth about what who meant what is not going to help anything.
  2. 1. In CMBN and your plans, nothing is ever right. Therefore, if everything is going right ... something is wrong. Now is a good time to see how many squads you're missing. Just look for the dead bodies sprawled about. 2. Nothing is as easy as it looks or sounds. This includes empty looking forest patches, deserted looking buildings, pretty fields of flowers, and the sound of a platoon of Tigers disguised to sound like Kubelwagons. 3. Anything that can go wrong will go wrong. This includes anything that contains HE and happens to be anywhere near your troops. 4. If anything simply cannot go wrong, it will anyway. This is what happens when you think you can beat #3. 5. Whenever you set out to do something, something else must be done first. This usually happens when you have the PERFECT line of fire on a whole company of enemy troops and you select your crew served weapon to open up a can of proverbial whoop ass and you now notice you need to deploy it first after which time the deployment is done that PERFECT opportunity has now passed and mortar rounds are now falling on your deployed crew served weapon. 6. You cannot successfully determine beforehand which side of the bread/map to butter/attack 7. A falling object will always land where it can do the most damage. This law is only in play for the enemy. and of course we all know Murphy was a grunt.
  3. Pretty accurate imo. Talk to any cop that has been involved in an active shooting incident and you'll learn all you want about tunnel vision. Most of them couldn't even tell you they heard the gunfire but they could swear they were able to track the bullet visually in flight. Adrenaline is an amazing thing.
  4. I have definitely not played enough QB's to say anything definitive, but the first 2 were rain...I didn't leave weather on random for my 3rd QB. Great QB's I have to say although #3 was a bit of a turkeyshoot...2 full strength platoons of Panthers is just too much for the AI and it didn't help that the AI tried to cross a stream all in the same place coming in fat dumb and happy.
  5. Yeah, I had that happen in the first game in the demo within first 5 minutes of start and I was instantly impressed just by that. That was my first lesson in what mortars ca do as well since that's how he earned his instant promotion...poor LT never saw it coming The platoon daddy did a damn good job leading his squad afterwards I might add.
  6. Thanks for this. I plan to just use it for deployment, save and then use the regular map as the grids are a bit distracting in game but this is a godsend for setting up lines of fire on defense. Thanks again.
  7. Is green the only color you can use? Just curious, be nice to see things like firing in red and whatnot.
  8. I wonder if the order number is related to the number sold? If that's the case they sold over 200,000 units easily just based on my order number. A quick google search showed that Mass Effect 2, which is considered a commercial success, sold over 2 million copies within the first week of release. So how about it BF? Can we at least get a gumball machine with a contest for guessing the correct number of gumballs or somefink?
  9. What's worked for me so far as simply been using common sense when looking at terrain and what I am trying to accomplish tbh. If there is anything imo that could use some help it's some sort of contour map for the deployment phase. I find it a pita to find good ground on maps with bocage in them. Channeling is one thing but even those fields with bocage around them have slight elevations and so forth in them which makes it hard to find good defensive positions etc. The rest of the terrain I have found to be pretty self explanatory. Tall fields make great concealment but don't stop much in the way of anything higher in caliber than spitballs. Trees stop tank rounds but houses made out of wood don't and so forth. Common sense to me and when I am not 100% sure it's called playing the odds. Even the best generals had to do it sometimes as there is no such thing as a perfect plan based on perfect intel. In other words I think the game provides plenty of feedback regarding terrain.
  10. A contour map would be very nice tbh and would add a nice touch to the game imo. As of now I have fits trying to find high ground. The good thing is for well made maps water sources are always considered low ground, but high ground is a pita to find on some maps. Sure you can drop down low but then if there is the bocage to contend with on some maps. I'd just like something that shows the overall lay of the land. I'll throw my two cents in...Fort Irwin and MILES gear, oh yeah, good times, good times. Always a pleasure to knock down various units down a peg or two on rotations. Oh, and even though we knew the area like the back of our hand...we still used contour maps and grease pencils.
  11. Yeah the American mortars in direct fire are just sick. I watched an American mortar team direct fire from the other side of a wooded patch onto a sitting still Panther and while I am lucky that the top hatch was closed about 3 direct hits on it completely immobilized it. I am still amazed at how quickly they can blow through their ammo load when the start dropping them into the tubes. Thump, thump, thump every 2-3 seconds. Lesson learned, even a bit cat can get neutered by the lowly mortarman. I was lucky no enemy armour assets were around as an immobile tank is usually a dead tank give it enough time.
  12. It's nice to see that the left side fell apart first and the roof then fell in on that side first. Pretty neat imo. Been even cooler if the rubble afterwards reflected that but hey, gotta leave something for CM3 right?
  13. 1. AT guns...you might not every find it but your vehicles blowing up every now and then are a good indication that there's one out there somewhere. 2. The better graphics can at times show you how much worse your pixelheros are dying due to your ineptitdude in leading them. 3. Mortars are good for taking care of #1 when found and for causing #2 to occur in abudance.
  14. On iron level the differences between an FO and a platoon leader calling in off board arty is considerable from what I have seen. Iirc I've seen up to 10+ min for a platoon leader trying to get some off board arty support and to me that is pretty realistic. FO's can call the rain in much quicker
  15. Now that is useful to know regarding the XO team becoming the HQ if the CO gets taken out. Does the unit change its icon as well turning into a flag and received radio comms as well? If so I guess the choice is keep them safe in case you do lose your CO team for redudant command capability or you can use them for extra firepower and medic abilities. Choices, choices.
  16. I'd like something like a grid system during deployment as well. Finding good sight lines etc is a lot of work and with bocage it makes the task even harder. Something that can be toggled on and off would be great or even something just for the deployment period which would disappear once you hit start. Having a grid while playing would be a bit cheesy, especially for this time.
  17. I'd be fine just having some visible bandages etc to show who received buddy aid and leave it at that. Having guys with stretchers or WIAs limping to the rear would be great but I think that's maybe for CM3 as it sounds like a lot of work, not that just adding bandages and so forth is a trival thing to do itself. I would imagine it's plenty of work to make it work right or effective.
  18. Just a thought, in the future is there maybe a way to have a popup similar to the way aquire ammo has for maybe a choice to leave a gunner behind or not? In a huge game probably not that big of a deal but in smaller battles a choice like that can be a huge difference. I am sure this is one of those things that is probably on your list but I would wager it's wayyyy down the list.
  19. lol only game I know that has to come with a sexual harrasment disclosure form
  20. Ditto for me. I was at 20% after an hours going from 100 to a creeping 68 so I downloaded FlashGet as well and now I am flying at an average of 350-600 showing completed download in 50 min. Beats the 4 hours and 40 minutes from before.
  21. I usually get good d/l speeds but its pretty slow for me. Been nice if people knew how to be hush hush about stuff. Snitches get put in stiches as they say.
  22. Yep, reminds me of Saving Private Ryan. That thing made short work on a bunch of para's iirc.
  23. It's not just this site but lots I have problems with. I just wished they ask a simple question like, what is one plus one or whatever instead of something that makes me feel like I'm on LDS and reliving the 60's.
  24. There's no such things as 'friendly' fire as they say. I wasn't able to verify it (I forgot to doublecheck it before hitting GO again ) but I could have swore that I suppressed one of my own assualting squads due to a MG laying down area fire on a unknown target, but like I said I wasn't able to verify it. I would assume that the AI doesn't cut off supporting fire if friendly troops get in the way so I would think they've made it so you can't hit friendlies with small caliber stuff otherwise you'd be nailing your own buddies in the back constantly when assaulting.
