  1. I have never played this game before. In spite of being a Steel Panthers tragic I never knew Battlefront existed until December 2010 when I stumbled upon the CMBfN release announcement. And I am still crap at playing this game (there seems to be some bug in the game that manifests itself in all my tanks blowing up and all my troops becoming dead). But when I cruise through the forums and read all the complaints and questions I feel like the old man of Battlefront. Because I have read the manual and a lot of the questions are answered in the manual. This manual is excellent. It is clearly the work of many man hours and man men and women. It is like those manuals that used to come with the Mircroprose games. I am not a fanboy but I would like to say to Battlefront "thank you for the manual, and god bless these united states of america".
  2. I have found the most difficult aspect of controlling the camera is the mouse wheel elevation function. I have taken to using the preset camera elevation keys (1-9 on the keyboard).
  3. Well, the results are in. It looks like two votes for Yes and three votes for No. This is important information that Battlefront will not doubt use to assign a priority to this feature.
  4. This function is now controlled with the "V" key
  5. Given this: and this notice on the on the Battlefront home page: I would assume the release date will be next week.
  6. Wolfseven, a notice a lot of dead German's in that screen shot. How did you get the Germans to be dead. In my games I get the opposite effect.
  7. Well, it's unofficial. According to this website the release date is 20 May 2011.
  8. I find panning the camera with the mouse to be reasonably smooth, but you can't pan and move forward at the same time. I guess this game wasn't designed to be a flight simulator.
  9. I think I have to put in a few words in defense of SOD (or SOD off as one poster called him). Yes he was incredibly rude to George MC (who gave a very informative answer to a vague question), and he has some bizarre opinions. But he has a good grasp of the English language: his spelling and grammar are good and his sentences are well constructed. As far as communication skills go he is batting a thousand percent over the average internet forum poster. On the charge of fanboyism, I think we have to give him that one. We are all busy people with careers and families and so forth. Who else but a fanboy would spend hundreds of hours researching the details of Panzer IV (Panzerkampfwagen IV to you) and then spend dozens of hours arguing the relative merits of the Ausführung F1 and Ausführung F2 variants (and then spend hundreds of hours arguing about whether the correct designation of the "Ausf. F1" is "Ausf. F1" or "Ausf. F"). I myself have no interest in such things (it's Ausf. F by the way). CMBfN is just a game and we are all looking for something different. SOD off is obviously looking for Steel Panthers: the Next Generation. I was looking for that game too when I stumbled upon this site. And yes, I'm a little disappointed that Battlefront dosen't seem to grasp the importance of hex based top down wargaming. Or that they don't have sufficient respect for the genre to correctly model the GI's shoe laces. But we work with what we've got. Until someone updates Steel Panthers so that it can utilise all the resources of my Crossfire powered supercomputer I guess I'll just have to settle for this crappy game.
  10. I was running the game with best graphics and 3D model (no AA or V-Sync) with my GTX8800 and it ran great (or at least it looked great to me). After reading this thread I downloaded Fraps and realised my "great" graphics were actually running at 15 FPS when I was panning the camera or when there were a lot of troops running through the hedge row. So I dialed down the 3D model and the graphics look great again.
  11. Did you install the game to your program directory? I have found that several programs and games work better if you install to a different directory.
  12. This issue was covered in another thread. The short answer is no. The longer answer is that you can replay the mission if you save after each turn (and then when you reload your saved game you can replay the video).
  13. Actually, I already posted some screenshots here:
  14. I couldn't attach it so I emailed it to you.
  15. I just tried this in CMSF. You have to start the right click with the cursor near the edge of the screen. If you right click in the centre of the screen and drag the pointer to the edge of the screen the POV will rotate quickly. If you start your right click near the edge of the screen and drag to that edge the POV will rotate slowly.
  16. My internet provider punishes recalcitrant downloaders by limiting download speeds. It's like I am living in 1995 (which I suppose is why I am forced to watch bad WW2 science fiction movies). I blame those three video AARs which chewed up about 9 GBs of my limit (I had to download in 1080p). By the way, thanks tyrspawn for those video AARs. Fortunately my download limit resets at midnight tonight (in about 25 mins). I expect at that time my jokes will become incredibly lame.
  17. Well, I've been playing for about five minutes and I have to say I'm a little disappointed with the graphics: The graphics are a bit soft and grainy, and I am unconvinced by the acting. Also shouldn't everyone's uniforms be more dirty (it's war after all). And these German's look almost comically incompetent. I'll give it a bit more time (after all, the producers no doubt invested considerable time an effort into making this movie). But I am beginning to suspect I have wasted my money on this purchase. If only there were something more productive I could be doing with my time.
  18. So I got home from work and what did I find? The postie had finally delivered my Zone Troopers DVD: So it looks like a won't have time to browse the forums and flame you guys tonight. Good luck with achieving a home/work/rabid fanboy balance (I've got more important things to do).
  19. For historical fiction I recommend Band of Brothers by Stephen Ambrose. I believe HBO turned it into a mini series.
  20. For those of you who are vacillating on buying the steel book edition:
  21. I don't think you are wrong. Gamepressure.com now lists a release date of 17 May 2011.
  22. I think this must be an American thing. In Australia foul language and nudity on television is OK at night. However, Australian school children are not allowed to take automatic weapons to school and shoot their teachers and class mates. I understand different rules apply in America. One of the oddest aspects of this puritanical streak is the Janet Jackson clothing malfunction controversy. All the six o'clock news programs in Australia showed Janet Jackson's breast whereas the American news programs I watched only showed a pixelated blur. Now I have seen Janet Jackson's right breast. It was a normal looking celebrity breast: that is, a wonder of modern prosthetic technology. But on the American news programs it looked more terrifying than Osama Bin Laden with a shot out eye. I think it would be more humane to allow children to see the naked human form. I think it is an insult to god and cosmetic surgeons to cover it up with blurry pixels. However, on the question of foul language in games I am indifferent (and I would be unhappy if my combat mission trooper screamed and carried on when they were injured).
