  1. Regarding the post by Moon where he says: I don't think he was hinting that CMBfN would be released next week. I think he was hinting that the Mac pre-orders would be starting next week.
  2. I was thinking of upgrading from Window 7 Ultimate to Windows 7 Pro myself (so I could use the "virtual XP feature"). Why did you downgrade from Windows 7 Pro: did you have an issue with how it ran as opposed to Widows 7 Ultimate?
  3. Well I'm sorry your not going to answer more. I've had to endure countless hours of tedious discussion on whether Battlefront have correctly modelled the flange on the German helmet, or whether the sprocket wheels on the Panzer IV were modelled with the correct number of teeth (which I say is 19 and I'll flame anyone who says otherwise). Or even worse, whether Battlefont's copy protection/mind control system is going to turn my computer into molten metal while publishing the contents of my pornography directory on the world wide web (note to self: change name of directory "essential shemale porn" to "puppy dog pictures (not)"). But here, for a change, we have real drama. I want more. Please.
  4. My psychic powers tell me you joined in September 2002.
  5. I just read the FAQ: How do I find my License Key? Now I am confused. I have ordered the Steel Box edition and I was given a license key when I ordered. Does the Steel Box edition of this game come with a license key printed on the box? Does that mean I will have two unique license keys?
  6. I lost $110 buying Crysis 2 while I was waiting for CMBfN. I am not sad about that. What really riles me though is that, while I was waiting for CMBfN to be released I was talked into watching Sucker Punch. Now I am looking for someone to give me my $16 back and 2 hours of my life.
  7. Look for a mod that fixes the broken german helmets.
  8. I stupidly pre-ordered two copies of this game before reading this thread: does anyone know if it possible to cancel a pre-order?
  9. I think Lt Bull is right about the lighting. I recall a discussion years ago in relation to the use of CGI vs models in movies. I think the discussion was in relation to the CGI graphics used in Babylon 5. Even though the space ship models were awesome, there were some complaints that the graphics looked too clean: The problem was lighting. One of the reasons models were still being used in movies is that real world lighting is so complex. Everything that reflects light (that is everything you can see that isn't perfectly black) is a light source. So every real world scene has millions of light sources. Also objects of different colours reflect and absorb different wave lengths of light, etc. There are also some odd things going on in the brain when it interprets a scene. For example, a black object outside on a sunny day is actually brighter than a white object seen in a dimly lit room. So GCI lighting is not merely a question of calculating how much light is reflected from an object and assigning a brightness value to it. It's about creating a two dimensional image corresponds to a real world scene. I don't understand much about computer graphics but I understand the DirectX 10 and DirectX 11 video cards have hardware that solves some of these problems. I imagine it would take a lot of programming hours to implement these lighting solutions. Having said all that, I like the way the game looks. I hadn’t even heard of combat missions until 24 December 2010. For years I have wasted so much time and money on RTS wargames. I wanted a turn based wargame. I had reinstalled Steel Panthers and was grumbling about the graphics (wondering why no one had made a 21st Century version). So I used the Google machine and found this: http://www.battlefront.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=blogcategory&id=274&Itemid=457 I was so excited I almost wet myself. I don’t care that CMBfN doesn’t look like call of duty black ops. CMBfN has little people in it, and tanks and guns and terrain. I don’t care that a CMBfN tree doesn’t look like the trees outside my window (which are eucalyptus trees by the way). I wouldn’t even care if the Tiger tanks looked like M48s with stick on fibreglass mudguards. CMBfN is a game and I intend to play it with my brain. But (as a Steel Panthers veteran) I think the game looks awesome and I would like to say a big thank you to Battlefront for making this game for me.
  10. Regarding the clean vs dirty issue, I think you will find your troops have better morale if their tank is clean and shiny.
  11. I am not a tank driver (and I don't know if it is the driver or someone else who controls the smoke popper) but if smoke is being popped to avoid enemy fire would not the driver be trained to shift the tank's position as soon as the smoke is popped?
  12. I pre-ordered two copies of the game in two separate orders. (I got charged S&H twice as I couldn't figure out how to combine the orders but I am fine with that.) The second one is for a friend who is computer illiterate. (I had to install WinSP on his Windows 7 PC because he couldn’t figure out how to unzip a zip file.) However, I myself am only barely computer literate and I have no understanding of how the license key copy protection works. I know all license keys do something to the windows registry and I understand that some of them are associated with a certain user name and user details and others to a specific PC. I think some of them also references a server data base as part of the unlocking process. I received two emails, each with a unique license key: one for my game and for my friend's. My questions: If I install CMBfN via the CD do I need to unlock the game with the license key? Is the license key somehow embedded in the installation CD? (*edit: on rereading Moon's post I think the answer to this is yes.) I know that I can download the CMBfN installation file to my PC, install the game and unlock it with my license key. But can I then copy that installation file to a thumb drive and install it on a second PC and unlock it with the second installation key? (Do I have to download the installation file over the internets to my friend’s PC?) If I install via the downloaded installation file on my friend’s PC do I have to “register” the game using my name or my Battlefront log on details?
  13. And another thing. No disrespect to Mr Satriani, but after watching several versions of the crazy helicopter video I have come to the belief that all crazy pilot videos should be remixed with 1970's porno music soundtracks.
  14. I found another version of the helicopter video in a higher resolution: It seems this video is all over youtube. I remember when I was young seeing movies like this and not understanding why they were such a big deal. As a middle aged man I realise the big deal is that all of these pilots fall into that special category of pilots that I like to call "not dead". I don't know why these pilots are in the "not dead" category, but they are and to me that is a big deal.
  15. I'll see your crazy jet pilot and raise you one crazy helicopter pilot:
  16. You could say that metaphor is the older and more sophisticated brother of similie.
  17. I think the "continuing the battle after the enemy has surrendered" option has been reserved for implementation in the Eastern Front expansion module.
  18. I hate to be a kill joy but isn't early May around the end of April?
  19. If government officials are doing something illegal that is a matter for the Federal Police, not the media. Although I agree sometimes it is a tough call. Going back to Watergate, the FBI director in 1972 was Pat Grey - a Nixon appointee. I seem to recall he was taking his instructions from Halderman (Nixon's chief of staff). That's corruption on a massive scale and people went to jail. A lot of the stuff that is leaked by whistle blowers is more embarrasing than illegal. I think if you scratch that scab you will find poor administration, nepotism and a disgruntled employee, but usually not corruption on a criminal scale.
  20. ~Viajero I just followed your link and registered on Photobucket. I have posted a close up picture of the QB battlefield. If you can see the photo then maybe Photobucket is the answer to this geographical censorship issue:
