  1. Yes of course, the only question is, can you manage a way to get some M60's in there too!!! I think the M1 vs. T-72/T-80 match would be a CM gamers wet dream. We have proven that modern high lethality environments can work very will in CM with CMSF. The early to late 80s would make a beautiful game, it really would. Not that I don't enjoy a good ole M1A2 vs T90 shoot out, just get nostalgic for some Cold War lovin every now and again and WinSPMBT just doesn't do it!!!!
  2. More often then not, when I have troops assigned the Thompson and Grease Gun, I will load who ever I can into the nearest jeep, half track, truck and grab as much .45 ammo as I can. The starting amount is way to low for close range fighting in the hedge rows and forests. Breech teams and scout teams are #1 on the priority list for this, as they are out in front and the way I try to use them, engage in short, sharp close range firefights. Nothing beats the Tommy Gun in this kind of fighting, it is absolutely devastating.
  3. I have not lost any tanks to PzFausts, but I have killed quite a few, screens available on request The range is only about 30 meters, looks like 5 meters in game, and tanks tend to not just let u kill them. That big hollow charge shell is an instant kill in most cases, works great if u can get close enough.
  4. What I am really waiting for is some G14 types in tailored black suits to start showing up at our houses, "recruiting" us based on out performance in anonymous PBEM games to simulate various ideas for 'kicking in the front door' to Syria. All joking aside, we few lost souls here at the BF CMSF forums are in a unique position from which we can watch the developments in that part of the world with a different perspective then most people in the Western world. It seems these days most of America couldn't tell you that Damascus is the capital of Syria, or that the name of the ruling family is Assad, or that the BMP is not in fact a tank but an IFV. As horrible as the events that are unfolding over there are, and they are. I hope in my heart that the end result is a nation where the people have control over their own destiny, and do so in a responsible and respectful manner.
  5. I was just telling a buddy about this. He doesn't know the CM series but knows me well enough that if I say it's the best thing out there, it is. It is nuts to game out in CM what could be happening in a few months in real life.
  6. LoL, now this I like. Talk about camo.....,"I took a head of cabbage and peeled it apart, placing the layer back on my helmet in the right order. I hid in that cabbage garden until the end of the war, only leaving when nature called which you can imagine deserved a medal all by itself since all I ate was cabbage!" Now that is a war story!!!
  7. It's funny that a ton of the 'surrender' jokes you hear about France come from Americans like myself Truth is, if not for France, the USA might not have been. Still, humanity in general has a crude sense of humor, so it is what it is. My grandfather used to joke about Italy in WWII, he would say, "Look at this in the paper, WWII era Italian Rifles, never been fired and only been dropped once!" lol
  8. I have a dual core AMD 2.5ghz, and integrated nVidia 128mb video on an nVidia mother board and 3GB RAM and I use above average graphics settings and it's smooth a silk, in real time or otherwise.
  9. I must say that I agree with the beginning post, the art of the Technical has reached new highs in the Libyan Civil War. My vote also goes for the BMP turret. Just the other day a buddy of mine and I were discussing mounting a Mk 19 to his Acura TL. With a little bit of reinforcing and a ring mount from a Humvee, it might be do able. We also thought of mounting a 240B out the back window for rear quarter protection.
  10. I personally enjoy a bit of mixed game play. Veteran units really shine when they are put next to green units. In a single company, I will generally have a veteran HQ (unless my head is roleplaying something different), and at least one vet squad, with regular and green fleshing out the mix. This way, I can really appreciate the skill veteran and above experience levels bring to the fight. When dealing with AFVs, more often then not the low rarity vehicles will have green and regular crews, with the more expensive/effective one having much higher skill level crews. This is an attempt to simulate a crack Stug crew moving up to the one JgPzIV the company has on hand. Or for a veteran crew who has earned their place in a Tiger or Sherman 76.
  11. I normally only notice it when I drive to fast through a hedge with a rhino or when passing through gaps blasted with demo charges. I also rarely move at fast, half time between quick and slow, and the rest move and hunt.
  12. I was having issues with 60mm mortar teams NOT firing on targets of opportunity. I had the team set up in a beautiful little spot, a small hill in front of them to protect from direct fire and one rifle toting member of the crew spotting over the ridge. They had an enemy infantry team in sight about 150 meters away. I figured they would fire without an order so I let them be, at the end of the turn, no bombs had been fired. I then gave them a target command and that solved mine and the enemy squads issues (they were all killed by 60mm rain of death, I was happy!) I always set my mortars up in the rear and let FOs and HQs do the spotting. The only exception is when they mortars are part of a platoons OOB, like in the airborne units. And then I tend to set them up just at the edge of C2 while the platoon moves forward, and then pack them up and move them forward when the next objective is reached.
  13. Sometimes there is a small LOS issue with targeting that you can not see unless you get down to weeds level. I had good LOS to a Marder with my Sherman 76 in a QB the other day. But even after a target order they wouldn't fire. I discovered that there was a single tree in the way of a firing solution. The Sherman could "see" the Marder, but couldn't fire on it. Instead they chucked some HE at a nearby infantry unit.
  14. Just like the iron sights on an M16/M4 assault rifle. If you are aiming at a target closer then the 300 meter zero, you have to aim BELOW your target to hit it. I believe that the sweet spot ranges where you can put sight on target and shoot are at both 75 meters and 300 meters. The sights are raised so far above the barrel that the bullet leaves the end and raises to meet the sight line at 75 meters, travels in an arc, and descends to meet them again at 300 meters. That is how I was taught to zero my rifle in the Army, and I remember having to force myself to aim at the ground to hit targets center mass at 50 meters!!!
  15. LoL, is it wrong if I first found out about the patch here on the forums and not on the main BF page. It's funny, same thing happened when CMBN was released, when the CMSF v1.32 patch came out, and when the 1.01 patch came out for CMBN. The forums must get sooo much more activity then the main page.
  16. IIRC Stugs killed more tanks then the PzIV. They were for different roles, in a sense. The PzIV was a tank, and therefor designed to support Infantry units and exploit break through operations. The Stug was an assault gun, operating in a role similar to JagdPanzers and defending infantry from enemy armor. In the defense, the Stug was an out standing tank killer. True, later role designed JPs has better frontal armor, but the Stug had already been there for quite a while and crews were very experienced in their use and commanders were well versed in their deployment. I would place the Stug higher on a price list then the PzIV. IMO
  17. Heh, and there I thought I was just looking at the MG crew from an odd angle. The community here is so fast about reporting bugs, I noticed this last night and logged on to report, and here it was
  18. Just ran a quick battle, medium size, mixed force. The very first force selection the AI chose was 10 tanks and a medium mortar squad, which was meh in my view, but the second one was perfect. 5 PzIVs of two different variants, and 1 full strength company of truppen and one weakened company (1 platoon short) of grenadiers. Great job you did with this. The tanks shooting on the move really feels right now. My sherman 75 rolling down a hill on slow did take a shot at a PzIV, and missed overhead, which seemed correct considering the locations of the two tanks. Thankfully, I listened when Gibsonm tells me things, and I had his buddy on over watch about 100 meters too his rear and as soon as the PzIV stopped to take out my tank, the overwatch blasted him. They were shooting at each other from about 750 meters on opposing sides of a valley, each on their respective high grounds. The Sherman 76 and the M10 I had covering the infantry advance on the opposite end of my side of the valley hardly fired a shot, as all the enemy tanks approached using a compound of farm buildings as cover from that side, but between them and the fires of my Sherman 75 four PzIVs were knocked out without even a scratch to any of my tanks. And having an HQ and an FO is perfect spots to observe the river of enemy pixel truppen, and calling in fast and accurate fire from six 81mm and three 60mm mortars plus a battery of 105mm howitzers. It was a massacre to say the least, I had one man wounded, they lost all but 45 men killed or wounded, a shredded remains of almost two companies of men. Man, I LOVE THIS GAME!!!
  19. I tend to pick the force myself, using the suggestion button for the enemy until something decent pops up. Some times I will modify the selections, sometimes it doesn't pick anything decent even after four or five times and I break down and do it myself. I try not to peek at the actual sub units if the mix looks OK so there is still a small element of surprise.
  20. On my old 2.2Ghz Dual core Intel Celron equipped laptop, 3GB RAM, Integrated Intel Graphics, CMSF played put it wasn't the prettiest thing to watch in the world. Even with the details turned down it was a bit much. I am now using a 2.5Ghz Dual-Core AMD, 3 GB RAM, nVidia 128MB equipped desk top and both CMSF and CMBN run very well. The details are set to medium and it is very smooth. CMBN is just a little bit slower then CMSF, due in part to the much more complex terrain, but is very, very playable. Just letting you all know that it doesn't take anything near top of the line to run CMBN well with a desktop. I can see having an issue with a laptop with less power then the one stated above although.
  21. Wow, it is different to be fighting in the desert then in the bocage. If I had the CMSF equipment in normandy, the fighting would be even more savage. Every man with a machine gun type of savage. I can't wait for CMSF2!!!!!
  22. Yeah, the game does remind me of crack, but soooo much better for you!!!!
  23. Yeah, first time I've fired up CMSF since Normandy came out, very nice guys, thanx a million!!!
  24. I wouldn't say a must, they are nice though. Either way it comes down to objectives, and if you are on the defense, he will come to yours. Infantry AT is deadly when used properly, draw them into an ambush, and boom. I prefer a mix. I like to have a couple platoons of engineers and some armor, plus a battery of 105s and some half tracks to dole out bazookas if there are none included with the force. Rhino tanks are expensive, so if you can't have them, engineers are a must on bocage maps.
  25. I lost a Panther today in mission 2 of Panzer Lehr campaign. After using charges on the bocage, I quicked through the opening and threw a track. Then I tried to get a half-track through the same way and broke that one. I now know to slow Hey, a little rhyme to remind me to slow er down a bit.
