  1. I had the same thing happen. I think a lot of it has to do with the different kind of terrain we are facing in the CW missions. For the most part, gone are the tight hedgerows, replaced by open fields with minimal cover. It's more akin to CMSF then the base CMBN.
  2. Got me two Cromwells with a single Lynx. The scenario is 'First Contact.
  3. Yes, they let folks from Maine on here too.....couldn't believe it. Believe it or not, I am half black!!! And the other half is German, like third generation, serious conflict of my inner self........LOL
  4. I do have a question about the QB maps. I understand that all of them can be played with either side attacking or defending. To make some fun personal scenarios, I will edit QB maps in the editor to use forces with no point restriction. How can you make one side or the other attack as when I look at the AI plans and deployments it is set to one side attacking only.
  5. Yeah, when I set a mine field, I set TRPs with it. Nothing better then wiping out enemy engineers who are trying to disable a mine field That, and marked mine fields are not safe mine fields. Vehicles will still get blown up.
  6. I was wondering if BF was gonna use the same grenade models as the US forces. They did not, and some proof that CW forces DO use grenades!!!
  7. I am also of the "We have a Baby" type. And remember, sometimes that wall of poo hits YOU! Edit - LoL, wife would kill me, it's TWO babies, damn twins genes and all...
  8. Yeah, just realized the other day that scout sections when mounted in carriers have an on board 2" mortar. You need to acquire it and it's ammo from the carrier. It doesn't list the mortar in the equipment section so you need to look for the carrier with 51mm rounds. When you acquire you will see the mortar listed.
  9. Noticed there are two versions of the 6 lbr. The 57mm 43cal and the 57mm 50cal. I also noticed the APCR 6lbr rounds are available for the 50cal version. Amazing attention to detail. This was part of a Polish Batt TOE. Did the Brits and Canadians use the same exact TOE, or are their differences??? I am not able to be in game to check it myself, so figured I would ask around.
  10. Yeah Sergei, I found out about those 3" rockets.......... Dont call em if troops are within 300 yards of the target. Only lost one guy in an HQ outfit, but it should have been much worse.
  11. I think the gameplay is vastly different for the Brits and the US. 2" mortar smoke rounds are life savers and every single rifle platoon has them. Not to mention the ability to chuck some HE behind a wall or hedge if need be. The 60mm is more dangerous, but has no smoke rounds. You don't have the insane volume of fire that a US rifle squad has. This means developing fire superiority is more difficult. As someone on a different thread said, the bren gun is VITAL to achieving this. The 2" can also help suppress so your rifle squads can keep them that way. Armor! The long range tank battle has been transformed with the 17 lbr, no doubt about that. As the Germans, you can no longer assume that you are invincible from the front using heavy tanks. As the Brits, you have a weapon that can, and will, punch through the front armor of a Panther or Tiger I. I still don't think that taking German armor on head to head is a smart idea, the other factors like optics and high quality crews make this pure folly. However, when faced with no other choice, if you have a Firefly or Achilles you also have a chance. Support from the air is much more powerful when you have a Typhoon on Cab Rank. I witnessed 20mm rounds wiping out half a german rifle platoon in my current QB. I called in a light strike, it was epic. Don't even think I will need the rockets it's loaded with after that epic strike. Carriers, as mentioned, are far more resistant to small arms. Transporting FO's around the battle and getting ammo to squads is a little safer. I also love the Bren and MMG carriers. In smaller battles without armor, they can be game changers. I killed a Marder I with a Bren Jeep two days ago. Fast drove behind him and let him have it, killed the entire crew. What a game moment that was. PIAT! You can use it from buildings, need I say more!!! These are just a few of the things I have noticed. Really love the new module. Love it, Love it, Love it!!!
  12. These QB maps are AMAZING!!! Thank you very much Mark. I play QBs for the most part and these maps are much appreciated. I am having some difficulty getting used to the more open terrain provided in the CW module. After fighting in the hedgerows for almost a year, the tactics for fighting in a more open environment were rusty to say the least. Really keeps me interested in CM.
  13. Since we're on the topic, anyone else think the smoke looks far better in v1.10 then it did in v1.01??? It seemed a bit too 'cotton ball' for my tastes before, now it looks more like smoke should. Maybe it's just me, lol.
  14. I had my 2" fire off something like 5 - 6 shots of smoke in a single WEGO turn just a couple hours ago. On the first turn of the smoke order it fired one round, then bout halfway through the next turn they started pumping out rounds.
  15. Boche, that's brutal friend! CM series games are pretty much the only thing I get to splurge on these days. Twin girls can take the wind right out of your game buying sails. I did finally pull the trigger, and I have all of 160MB down loaded at the moment. This is going to be a long CM night with an early screaming kid morning, but it's all worth while!!!
  16. Yeah, Jav teams tend to frown on using a VERY expensive missile on a few guys with AKs. If you really feel the need, try to area fire at something close by. Buildings are the absolute best, Jav teams love to blow up buildings. A friend of mine who was a Jav gunner in the Army told me he never fired a live round until combat, and even then it was just that one time. The simulators they use are just as good as firing a live one, and cost a whole lot less.
  17. +1 for CMBN:CW! Has the smallest amount of characters for such a long title. I must say, since the original Combat Mission: Beyond Overlord skimping on game/module names has not been Battlefronts style. I think the NATO module had the smallest, not if you count what NATO stands for, but that wasn't on the front of the box either
  18. Mikey, these shots are getting me all sorts of hot and bothered. T - minus 1 hour until I can get my copy, keep the shots coming so I don't get all misguided and spend the cash on something else!
  19. LOL, it's killing me!!! I am all of $10 short of my CW purchase!!! I imagine I should be good by the end of the day, but the suspense may kill me first!!! lol Good to hear so many good impressions, but I never had a doubt
  20. That's right folks, CM Normandy has won "Best PC Wargame of 2011 – Community Award" over at WarGamer.com!!!! Top of the heap, top of the list, king of the hill, the great one, all of these and more can be used to describe CMBN, and now there is yet another award to post on the product page. Really proud of all the folks here at Battlefront for building such an awesome game for us to whine about and occasionally play. And also of the community for getting their cursors over to WG and voting for CMBN, I know I did! Combat Mission: Battle for Normandy FTW!!!
  21. I am with Ranger on this, having had CMSF and 2 of 3 modules until a couple months ago, now with all 3, I still haven't gone through all the content for that series, playing quite often.
  22. diesel, that conversation you posted really made my evening!!! If I had been in Wilson's shoes, the next set of dialog would have been me asking my superiors for a transfer into a Sherman Firefly outfit. I must say, those men who climbed into tanks on either side had testicular fortitude in the order of titanium alloy. An enemy round may pierce the armor, but would ricochet right off of those. I salute these men!!!
  23. I agree with all the above points. I do feel, however, that with the reduction of the odds of a 'conventional war' the chances for a proxy way or an asymmetric war increase two fold. The Cold War proved this, with proxy wars between the ideologies of the USA/NATO vs. USSR/WP in Korea, Vietnam, Afghanistan, Malaysia, and numerous other brush wars that were just as dangerous to soldiers on the ground as any other type of war. With the end of the Cold War, the world entered a new and dangerous phase. The days of mutually assured destruction were certainly still with us when it came to a conflict between the more wealthy and well armed nations. But the proliferation of nuclear technology was so rapid and extensive that the full effect IMHO has yet to be felt. Cold War technology had allowed powerful nuclear devices to be mounted in a suitcase, and religious and/or political radicals now have the ability to strike the heart of their enemies with no return address for the inevitable retaliation. On September 11, 2001 this theory was proved true in a less than nuclear way. The enemies of America were able to strike at our homeland with no national address to send the same favor back. And with this the modern day asymmetric war was born. The wars in Afghanistan and Iraq are textbook examples of this type of war. Where conventional forces are so powerfully over matched that resistance was honestly futile. So the remainders of the national army and loyalist to the former government form an insurgency against the occupying forces and position them selves to take control when they leave following the meeting of the mission statement. So what would happen in Iran??? As has been stated, the Iranian Military is more powerful then the Syrian or Iraqi military. Their terrain precludes any fantasies of a quick and clean total victory. While quick and clean are not the words to describe the military outcome, victory is quite valid. There is no doubt in my mind that, should the United States and a Coalition of the Willing decide to strike Iran first from the Air and Sea followed by a ground invasion, victory from the shortest and narrowest point of view is assured. I dare not even venture a guess as to what would happen after that victory. There is a large highly educated population in Iran, and my common sense tells me that these people would be the ones to join us first. But there is also a large number of people in Iran who benefit from the current situation and wouldn't want to change it for fear of what the newly freed peoples or conquering army would do to them. In my humble opinion, a ground invasion would serve no purpose other then to cut short the lives of our service men and women, some of whom I have known well and served with. A full scale aerial campaign with the appropriate intensity and duration would accomplish our goals. Our enemies goals must also be considered. As said before, the effects an air campaign would have on their nuclear capability needs to be weighed against the total political victory that the Iranian regime would gain in internal politics.
  24. Hey guys, just saw this thread today and figured I needed a PBEM game in my life. Been far too long since my last one. I see the email address ya'll left further up the thread so, if it's alright with you of course, I will send a turn your way!!! I just upgraded my graphics card to an nVidia 8400GS 512MB so I hope I can run slightly larger battles then I did with my 128MB nForce 430....LoL
  25. At 360 meters? Not sure, but you might very will get lucky and disable him. In CMx1 I killed many a Panther at night or in low vis conditions using the Stuart. I would try it, what the heck, you will learn something one way or the other. Come to think about it, 360m is a bit of a shot, if you can sneak a bit closer while keeping LOS and not spotted, I would try. If not, might as well let her have it!!!
