Floating icons and "pointers" effect on FPS and camera
Vinnart replied to rocketman's topic in CM2 General Tech Support
Trees are the main FPS killer especially for CMFB and CMRT. I always play with just show full tree far away. Map size also effect FPS much too. I stay away from anything large. -
Need tech advise re GPU/CPU and a new monitor
Vinnart replied to rocketman's topic in CM2 General Tech Support
Don't buy a monitor, buy a HD TV instead to use as your PC monitor. You can get a bigger screen for less money with same quality. I play on a Vizio 40" and the game looks great! They go for less than $200 these days. -

MRE grog opens 1945 Breakfast K Ration
Vinnart replied to John Kettler's topic in Combat Mission Final Blitzkrieg
Interesting little piece of history to see. Always wondered what was in a "K". I was probably one of the last troopers to experience "C" rations though as they were getting phased out being replaced by MRE when I first went into service. All of it is pretty nasty compared to real food, but i'll never forget my first MRE which had me wishing for a "C". Thrown off a supply truck at 4 o' clock in the morn. The ever dreaded "Dehydrated pork patty" eaten cold! Ah the nastyness! At least "C" were easier to heat and they always came with a a cool little P-38 can opener which I'm glad I kept one as a souvenir along with a few hemorrhoids. lol These were the ones I remember most, The worst thing was the toilet paper. Look at how little they gave. Not that you needed it much. These things would pug you up something awful, and when you finally went first time in a week it was like giving birth to a brick. This is it without the hot water. You have to watch this one for a good laugh. -
I made a mod of soldier's names substituting the stock ones for more memorable easier to pronounce call signs and nicknames. The names text file is universal in that you can use the same file in all Cmx2 games. I not sure if this mod is at Cmmods, or if it was on the old Battlefront repository. I made it a long time ago and hard to keep up with all my mods out there.

The Telegraph's Top 29 War Film List
Vinnart replied to John Kettler's topic in General Discussion Forum
Certainly don't agree with all of them, but definitely some of my favorites on that list. One that was missing that would be on my list is "Sahara". Not too many "Joes" as cool as Humphrey Bogart's gritty Master Sgt. portrayal in that one., The character acting and story were both very good and memorable. -
I use the "Light" personally as I think it makes the more important graphics actions stick out as Holman stated. I never intended to have a graphic for "spotting" for that reason when coming up with the concept, but Marco liked having a graphic so the decision was made to have two versions to give more options for preference. Of all the actions "spotting" was the one that didn't fall into place easily when coming up with what graphics to use for the actions. The one you see was the third try that felt right and looked good to me. Your lucky we didn't stick with he first graphic Marco made which was a pair of glasses. Marco got a good laugh when I told him I thought it looked more like a pair of saggy tits instead

Just want to give a shout out thanks to AstoCat for taking care of this update for everyone that appears to be working cross games (think it only happened once before), that is until the next game gets a patch and will likely need updating again. I really wish BF would just replace the stock with the graphics of this mod, thus it would be updated automatically with patches and builds. I say this also, not just because it is my mod, but because it simply functions better than text alone in this capacity and would improve the player's experience out of the box. I'm confident that "once you go animated, you never want to go back", so yeah fellas I feel you when I lag on getting updates out. It just gets hard to keep up with it all especially since most of my playing time is always focused on the latest beta game I'm testing so I'm not playing all the titles all the time and am not up to date on all titles all the time.

True, the present tracers and smoke are not as impressive as Vein's or Aris's mods, but the recent improvements are definitely MUCH better than the way the stock has looked in all previous builds. I also, like the variety of colors available now. All and all welcome additions and improvements to the stock game enough that I have been using the stock and not minding them. Really thought the old yellow tracers were an eye sore, so glad to see them changed in this right direction.

Trigger based reinforcements?
Vinnart replied to Cobetco's topic in CM Final Blitzkrieg Maps and Mods
I think if reinforcements via a trigger ability would give more flexibility for senario dynamics especially if it could be tied to the capture of an objective. -
Here is a CM game I would like to see: I have come up with a hybrid CM Wego hex game concept that is designed to be played on a phone. I have CM touch, but find it is too detailed and awkward control for the small phone format. I do not have a tablet, but am sure that game is more suited to that larger size. Not everyone has a tablet, but everyone has a phone. I see a market there with poor competition at least in the games I have tried in military strategy that play good on a phone. Hex type game formats work well on the smaller screen, but nothing very exciting action wise out there. The best thing I have found so far is John Tillers Panzer Campaigns, but what I envision has more action, is more engaging, and is more true to the spirit of CM game play than CM Touch in my opinion. Battlefront I have winner mobile game concept for you if interested. Lets talk. There is a market with little quality competition there. P.S. Feedback: The search for CM Touch takes some digging in Google Play. I only found the game by specific title and not along with general strategy games when browsing. Also, suggest changing the thumbnail to a good screen shot of the graphics from the game. The current does not catch the eye, and doesn't show off what the game is about. Just some suggestions from the consumers view point to improve sales of the game.

Been able to get back to playing a bit after a long lay off, and got the urge to do some modding to improve on my icons mod. I think you guys will like how this latest version improves visuals in look and function. Vin Geometric Icons CMFB v.1 + bonus Arrow Bases First, special thanks to Juju, Wolf, and Bil for all their original contributions from which I have drawn from to create this mod, and it's concepts. This mod will work in ANY Cmx2 game with USA and Germany. If you are familiar with my other Icon mods this one works the same in using different colors for spotted and FOW icons, along with different colors for fortifications icons making set up much more visually organized. Each unit class has a unique geometric shape making it much easier to differentiate unit types while making icons smaller. Newest Feature: New HQ icons. HQ units stand out much better now using contrast for visual emphasis while having a more interesting look with a white star icon for USA, and the Balkenkreuz for Germany. BONUS Arrow Bases mod included! (look in the building and you can see from afar which way they are facing) Don't forget to check out Vin's Animated Text shown in the lower left and available at CMMODS. Enjoy! I'm thinking of getting a budget tablet and am leaning more toward the RCA Cambrio which runs a full version of windows 10. I've looked into emulators, but still not sure this game would run that way. Anybody playing CM touch on a windows tablet?

"Action on lanzerath ridge" great vs Ai
Vinnart replied to slysniper's topic in Combat Mission Final Blitzkrieg
Yes, this was a good one. I just got done going through it for the second time. The first time I was able to get one ridge, an just needed few more minutes to sweep the objective. I was really hoping for some variable time, but I lost to the clock. My mistake was trying to cross where the distance of the open ground was shortest, but lost too much time moving through the woods to the assault point. The second time things went much better having installed a grid mod, and altering the plan. I didn't let the enemy MG's breath at all with continued area fire entire game which I think is really the key to winning this one. The Germans certainly have enough MG 42's and ammo to do so. I found the subtle dips in the terrain with the grid, and just used the ASSAULT command to cross over and take the ridge. It went pretty much text book. This looks like a good one to play real time too. -
Can't tell if I'm being too cautious or not cautious enoug
Vinnart replied to rooibos's topic in Combat Mission Black Sea
It is a fine dance sometimes between being slow and cautious vs being bold and aggressive. It is something I think one must feel with intuition similar to a poker player knowing when to fold em, or hold em. There is no formula, you just have to "feel" it. I can say that if one method is not working, then tying the opposite may be just what is needed. "Be like water" to adapt to the situation as it unfolds and changes. -
I always organize all the units in a standard "parade/ roll call" company/battalion group formation first. After all is organized I start placing units in their jump off or defensive positions. I recommend to all scenario makers to either place the units in optimal positions, OR in an organized formation as stated. It makes it so much easier if they start out in some type of organization tree to easily review, and place troops. Doing this would save the time for the player to have to to put them in formation, and would get the game started faster

Guys this is the same debate that has happened before many times here. I recall the answer from BF being they have no desire to add gore and blood to the game. I have to agree I don't think there is any need for it, and it will not add to the game play one bit. The game is not about showcasing the horrors of war, but to strategy and tactics of combat similar to chess on steroids. If you want some blood Vein has a "blood spot" mod that turns the base of a casualty into a pool of blood. At the very most IF hit decals are done it would be done in a subtle way like red dots. Don't expect limbs, blood and brains. There is no need for it here in adding entertainment value. The real world has enough of that people do not need to be reminded of when they are playing a game. Again debating the issue is mute. There will be no blood and gore in Combat Mission. Advice is to not worry about it and to enjoy the strategy and tactics of combat simulation which is the intent of the game.
