  1. Congrats on this project Bil. Looks awesome! Look forward to following the battle. Good luck! Yes, this title looks much better in movie mode. The vanilla colors for landscape are too saturated reminiscent of how CMBN looked when it first came out.
  2. I've been using XO's in this way for a long time as part of the spear front recon as they spot well, and are more expendable than Plt Ldr IMO. They also, serve as good front line medics. i
  3. As an artist who has his work out there, and who has been ripped off from copyright infringements I have no problem with my entitlement for my corporate "tax" thank you , but the Chinese are the real problem with SO many rip offs of intellectual property. Their "corporate" tax is not only unjustified but with the scum bagness of stealing it off of someone else's back at the same time. The amount of what I'm speaking about in this arena is staggering. Pretty much any product out there has a Chinese knock off clone of it being made. It's very hard to fight because their society, and mentality has normalized it plus they know it is hard to combat internationally. I hate the f#%$ing internet! (sorry - I'll stop)
  4. Here is a concept I put together a long time ago for ideas of how such a game might be. If this were implemented I believe the Real Time player community would grow exponentially. Basically each player controls a platoon, and sees only what his units see so it is how Iron mode would shine. The commander role player/players would control those smaller units, but would see more, and so would be coordinating the effort of the players controlling the main combat units. Also, the game would have observer slots for each side for just watching, or training for new team players. Teams (clans) would emerge for Real Time play, and would bring entire new aspect to the game.
  5. I agree CMFI is probably the most forgiving combat wise so would recommend most for a new player getting used to the games. I would say CMBS is the least forgiving in bad moves or luck, and so a bit more challenging. Personally, I prefer smaller company size scenarios too, but I don't think any one game has more. All the games have a mix they come with, but plenty of small user made scenarios out there.
  6. There should still be a good one out there made by Aris ages ago. Probably still on CM MODS site. Works with all the games.
  7. Just checked out the twich video. Nice presentation Steve and Chris. Would have liked to hear some show off of the games sounds with arty in the beginning though to give a taste of that immersive quality of the game for new players. I predict SO many new players finding the game for the first time on Steam! I hope the demos will be available there too. If a person can get a taste without having to commit I think it will grab even more people like it did me 20yrs ago. The game has been around for over 20 yrs, and it's amazing CM is just scraping the surface to it's most realized potential. So excited for Battlefront with these latest developments!
  8. That sounds like a smart business move partnering with Slitherine, and think it should bring much more exposure to the game. Best of luck in this new partnership Battlefront!
  9. Wow, great atmosphere enhancements NPye! You have a very talented eye for color and texture. Keep up the good work!
  10. This is absolutly great to see happening! Really so happy for you Steve, and the rest of the team. Awesome to see collaboration between other serious wargame companies like Slitherine to bring Combat Mission into the light as a serious tool to exercise critical thinking for military leaders. Congratulations team Battlefront!! Happy to be part of the testing of this, and seeing the game used this way. I see so many great things in the future for CM!
  11. Congratulations! That's quite a feat, but CM is quite a game, and still the best out there in the genre. I believe that CM still has much more realization to go especially on the real time end so I guess we can keep team Battlefront busy for another 20 yrs. I still look froward to playing co-op real time with multiple players someday where each player controls a platoon. Really, I think the concepts, and potential of CM has just scratched the surface. Salute to team Battlefront, and 20 more years!
  12. Thanks for keeping the mod alive Mike. Sorry fellas, It just got to be too much of a pain in the ass for me constantly have to update it for so many patches and games so I lost ambition for keeping up with it. Glad you posted the self help instructions. Should have just did that myself. Mike, Ian or anyone else is welcome to administrate it to keep it updated for the troops, and deal with "my text is screwy" problems when not updated. Appreciate keeping the name for the credit of inception. Glad you guys enjoy the mod.
  13. Wow! Really great work and creativity Aquila. Love the boats!
  14. Yes, excellent deep marsh mod! I have it in all my CM games. The Vietnam mod looks like it has potential. Lot of work to make a whole conversion like that though. Good luck.
  15. I play around with doing a Spec Ops quick real time battle now and then. Basically, set the game up with one sides troops maxed in every aspect; experience, morale ect..You will get a much smaller, but much better quality force than average pixeltruppen. Only issue is the smaller force will have enough ammo issues so suggest some vehicles in the scenario. These are fun intense fights especially in urban combat.
  16. Yes, that is a strange one for sure. Never seen that either in all my thousands of hours of play. That would be cool though if dudes fell from balconies and roofs now and then as a scripted hit animation.
  17. Vin Geometric Icons CMSF2.zipVin Geometric Icons CMSF2 I have been picking at making this for myself as I am going through the demo, and it should be complete enough to share now. First, special thanks to Juju, Wolf, and Bil for all their original contributions from which I have drawn from to create this mod, and it’s concepts. If you are familiar with my other Icon mods this one works the same in using different colors for spotted and FOW icons, along with different colors for fortifications icons making set up much more visually organized. Each unit class has a unique geometric shape making it easier to differentiate unit types while making icons smaller. Newest Feature: New HQ icons. HQ units stand out much better now using contrast for visual emphasis while having a more interesting distinctive look. Each force has it's own unique HQ floating icon available. Some have variation you can choose from as well. To change to a desired HQ go into the HQ folder where the icons are and cut and paste the "z" and add it to the beginning of the title of the folder you want to use. The default setting is USA white star, and Syria green star. I liked the green star as it felt more Syrian to me, but to use the Syria white star icon instead you would cut the "z" from the folder name and add it to the beginning of the folder name of the icon with the white star. Putting a "z" in front of any file folder name makes the game override to that. You can only use one Bluefor and one Redfor icon at a time. Switching HQ icons must be done manually. Also, The mod is set up so you can use all or piecemeal. If you do not want to use the special HQ icons , but the rest then take the HQ icon folder out and it will use the vanilla flag. Just want to use the FOW icons with another mod, or base game then just put that folder in and add a "z" to folder name. Enjoy! Vin BEFORE: AFTER: HQ's: Note the "z" at beggining of title. Cut and paste to different folder to change. DOWNLOAD: Vin Geometric Icons CMSF2.zip
  18. I think I will get motivated enough soon though to release my floating icons mod for CMSF2. At least that one doesn't require constant maintenance and part of the fun is the actual creative process of seeing what I can make and how it looks. Here is a preview of the HQ icons for the countries. Some have variations you can choose as you can see.
  19. Thanks CMFDR for administrating the mod for me. I made myself one for the demo but decided I didn't want to open another can of worms and release. No time or ambition to deal with the eventual updating .Please don't forget to include the light version which replaces the eye icon for spotting. I know many including myself prefer that version as the word "spotting" acts like a filter for the more important icons to pop out. Spotting is just regular non activity in my view. Marco did such a nice job though making the eye graphic for me which he preferred so we figured why not give the choice Heavy or Light. Mods are supposed to give options right? Oh, and for all you grogs out there that don't observe instructions - When your text gets all screwy when the the mod needs an update all bitching and moaning for an update should be directed to CMFDR as well for the fix
  20. 96 Bravo , Admittedly I did skim the thread but I guess my experience and testing have been different and still leaves me with my conclusions. Try the reverse then slow for bogging next time. It works most time that way. OK, ok I do throw in a "Fonzie" too by hitting the desk top so maybe that's my trick If you got any of the old Sgt. Rock comics they are worth $ today. I collected as a kid and glad I took care and kept them. Had one book I sold from 1960's "Our Army at War" (original Rock title) that was worth $400. The avitar is my favorite cover by Joe Kurbert who did much of the art for it. Very talented artist!
  21. My experience, and agree with similar comments, is to take it SLOW over obstacles or over rough/wet terrain to reduce chance of track damage and bogging leading to immobilization. I did a test map way back and found out good tips on the matter. Avoid wheeled vehicles like M8's too with obstacles as they fare much worse than tracked. Best tip to un-bogg works 90% time - Cancel move order, then give short REVERSE with waypoint to move SLOW forward.
  22. Cool! Downloading now. Thanks team Battlefront for all the effort I know that goes into the games.
  23. Amazing how you guys keep going on and on over such trivial life matters. Definitely unfollowing this one. My entire mailbox if full of this whining.
