  1. Pretty sure both Conqueror (1955-1966) & M103 (1957-1974) had 120mm guns, indeed I know they did. It was the 120mm armed MBT, as opposed to Heavy Tank, that took a while to arrive.
  2. That's interesting. @MOS:96B2P & I had wondered if it were possible for some latent 'weirdness' to be baked into maps ported directly from CM:SF1 to CM:SF2 (I forget the paticular 'weirdness' in question).....Your comment suggests it might.
  3. I had a good look through, it's a bit different to your normal style, but still a very enjoyable read. Reckon I'd have gone the whole-hog (points permitting) and added ISU-152s rather than Stalins....."Hiding in that house is futile Fritz!"
  4. All new to me.....Glad you resumed it, I really enjoy the way you present your AARs. Hope your good lady is back to full health.
  5. Quicker than reloading the M16.....He must be a FPS player in his spare time!
  6. Yeah, I'd tend to agree there, one often has to mitigate the AI's limitations by beefing up the AI force or tweaking the terrain to favour its plan.....Nature of the beast to some extent.
  7. There seems to be an expectation that the TacAI should do everything for us.....If you see your MG team is about to get surrounded and pinned, it's your job to get him out of there before it happens, not the TacAI's job to sort out the mess after you let it happen (IMHO).
  8. @MOS:96B2P I gave up on Red C2 in the end and remade it with British advisors.....It'll work properly now, but it's going to be a lot easier & a lot less scary than it would trying to do it with Red units.
  9. Missed this very wise comment.....Me too! I guess it falls under the broader bracket of 'artillery that we can control' as the Retreat movement option can be used to deploy smoke for other units (although in a rather all or nothing way with big AI Groups).
  10. That's one of the SPGs I specifically had in mind.....Sturmtiger would be fun too!
  11. I wonder if the rules currently used for on-map mortars could be broadened to allow Infantry & Field Guns, SPGs, AGLs and other weapons to fire indirectly.....It's been requested before I'm sure (for CM:BS specifically).
  12. Don't worry, a certain amount of speculation is factored into all of the 'modern' titles.....Ask all those BM Oplots in CM:BS (or the M1A2SEP APS, or the T-90AM for that matter).
  13. I often use 'the tank dance' when I'm brassing up fixed defences.....Target Briefly 15secs/Pause 15secs, Move 1m, Target Briefly 15secs/Pause 15secs, Reverse 1m, Target Briefly 15secs/Pause 15secs, Move 1m, etc. etc. until either all the targets, or my tank, are dead!
  14. Just being able to stack 'Target Briefly' commands (without movement) would get us close, you could engage four tiles in a turn.
  15. Actually, come to think of it, you may be right.....I've never actually tested whether AI spotters re-target existing strikes or call fresh ones. However they definitely can shift their fires around in one fashion or another and we definitely can't control how they do it right now (on map mortars excepted).
  16. That's not strictly true, it can be done, but it's AI Group heavy, requires a lot of AI Orders and is severely hindered by the inability to directly control AI artillery use. An AI controlled spotter actually can both Ceasefire and Adjust (apart from initial bombardments which are handled differently), but there's no way to control how they Ceasefire or Adjust.....The best we can curently do is to use on-map mortars (which can be fully controlled).
  17. Have to agree with @ncc1701e Mitigating the TacAI's suicidal urges can be a major part of one's effort when designing an AI attack.....More AI groups, movement options, artillery options etc. etc. would all help. We all know the situation when we give what seems like a perfectly sensible order and our pixeltruppen interpret it in their own unique way and get themselves slaughtered. Now imagine trying to give all those orders blind and in advance!
