  1. Actually, if you look close at some of the uniforms, the swastika is there, unmodified.
  2. Of course it's not my position to tell people how to spend their money, but it's probably time for even a modest upgrade if one's computer struggles to run the game unmodded. It's not as if the series is exactly on the cutting edge of graphics and audio technology.
  3. ROFL, then I guess I don't know what they really sound like. Hint: I own or have fired many of the weapons in BoB or that are about to be featured in Bagration. They do sound much like they're depicted in the miniseries. When I heard them fired on the range, in person. Take it up with akd, then. I'm going by what he told me here: http://filefront.battlefront.com/community/showpost.php?p=1323182&postcount=11 Well, first off, don't talk to me like I'm ignorant about this stuff. Secondly, consolidating sounds just lessens the audio fidelity of the game. In case you don't remember, back when CMBN was released, a LOT of weapons shared .wav files. I finally convinced Steve that it would be a good idea to give unique .wav files for many of the weapons, and so now people like you can make unique sounds for the MP40, Sten, etc. But wait, now you want to reverse things? Sorry, that's a no-go. BF has smart programmers working for them, and I'm sure they'll find a way to allow the game to process a high volume of sounds without crashing the game. Just like they found a way to add normal maps and better shadows to the game, I'm sure they can find a way to make the sound engine run more efficiently.
  4. Nope, they are real sounds. They fired blanks with those weapons and weren't dubbed in. The M3 and the Thompson do not sound alike in real life. Try again. Those two weapons do have separate sound files. I thought they were the same at first, but akd confirmed they are not. Sorry, but you aren't going to convince me to combine more weapon sounds together. It's regression, not progression.
  5. M3 and the Thompson sounding a lot alike? Not hardly. Watch Band of Brothers to hear the difference in sound between the two weapons. It's very distinct. I'm with Rambler. We need progression in the area of sounds, not regression. Here's hoping that the M91/30 has a separate sound from the K98k in the Eastern Front series, because those are two rifles that do sound different.
  6. Yes, because thousands upon thousands of people are queuing up daily to play a MP match with someone. (No offense intended at all to the game or BF, but multiplayer is not going to be one of those massively popular things here that really require a server browser).
  7. Not always: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Marine_Corps_Designated_Marksman_Rifle
  8. MP44s were very rare in Normandy, so a limited amount of ammo for them is plausible. It's just that, for some unknown reason, BF thought it'd be a great idea to have the only 7.92K ammo cache located inside bunkers.
  9. I've carried cases of 7.92mm and 7.62x54R ammo and yeah, they are very heavy.
  10. Thanks, I needed a good laugh.
  11. Some of the replies in this very thread will tell you pointblank why there aren't more women playing these sorts of games.
  12. Because that SMG would quickly be useless after the soldier burnt through the one magazine it has, and of course a soldier carrying both an SMG and rifle would be terribly gamey. Did it happen once in a very rare while? Probably so. However, we know that BF is dead-set against making outliers a common occurrence in the game, so the chance of seeing a feature like this is practically zero. Side note: carrying a Garand slung across one's back is pretty discomforting, especially considering that it was meant to be slung on one shoulder instead. Those guys who had to carry a bazooka as well must've been the strongest guys in the company.
  13. Leaving bratwurst out is a great way to find out where the Germans are.
  14. You're right. In fact, there's a very good article in the most recent issue of WWII History magazine that details a very, very bloody battle the Rangers fought against the Fallschirmjaeger in the Hürtgen Forest. The Rangers were victorious, but like you said, they were a spent force by the time it was over.
  15. Good stuff on the German units, JonS. I was curious to see how you were going to represent KM infantry since they're a part of the Waffen SS formation, but since we have a uniform option for just field gray uniforms it works out pretty well. Totally agreed on your assessment of unit skill levels. Crack and Elite should be reserved almost always for those very exceptional units - the Audie Murphy / Wittmann / Otto Carius types. With the amount of attrition on both sides, it would indeed have been very hard for any unit to rise above Veteran-level experience without suffering a consequent level of casualties.
  16. I like GL better in part because much of the action takes place in 1943, when the major armies on both sides were fairly equal in terms of what sort of firepower and troop quality they brought to the battlefield.
  17. I've heard it said that the reason German squad leaders were given an MP40 was to dissuade them from wanting to take long-range shots at the enemy and thus instead orient their focus towards leading the squad. If that's true, it sounds like the similar reason why American squad leaders were issued SMGs.
  18. I'll add one to the list - the Bren gun is missing its buttplate texture right now. (Kudos to BF for fixing this issue with the Lee-Enfields ).
