  1. It's a topic about sniper rifles, so of course people are going to bring real-world stuff into the discussion. Relax.
  2. I've noticed that there still is an issue when the player splits off an AT team that has a Panzerschreck. The shots below were taken from the KG Engel Campaign. As you can see, the team with the Panzerschreck has the soldier icon and is called the Panzerschrek team in the info box, while the other team has the AT icon:
  3. That has to be the funniest sequence of screenshots I've yet seen here.
  4. The Digital Nature engine has nothing to do with the original IL2. Saying it's a continuation just means they are carrying on with the franchise's name. It's like the new Operation Flashpoint vs. the original title - they may share the same name, but the code base is entirely different. Trust me on this. The executive producer is a good friend of mine and would laugh at the idea that this new IL2 project shares any code with the original IL2. So I will bet the house on it.
  5. Oh, I'm sorry, I didn't realize we couldn't talk about the G43's real life characteristics here. I'll be sure to check with you next time before posting such utterly off-topic info.
  6. No, it is not. The wz.29 was based on the Karabiner 98AZ, which had its origins in the Karabiner 98 model produced from 1899 to 1908. None of these were the Kar98k produced in the 30s and 40s. Saying "K98" when referring to the Kar98k is just a convenient shorthand - it's not the proper designation. It would be like saying an M91 is the same thing as an M91/30.
  7. I am a good friend of the man who's developed Rise of Flight and the new IL2. He would wholeheartedly disagree with you.
  8. ROFL! You do realize the version of IL2 now being developed shares zero code with the old, original IL2? It is most certainly not a rehash.
  9. Also, here are some opinions on the G43 as a sniper platform from actual German snipers: http://wethearmed.com/rifles/interview-with-3-wwii-german-snipers/
  10. [pedantic] The K98 was a Polish rifle. The correct term for the German rifle is Kar98k. [/pedantic] Otherwise, the only thing to add to Jason's post is that the G43 was very prone to parts failures. That's why even today collectors will use stronger, more reliable reproduction metal parts inside their G43s, because the chance of a part breaking is too strong to take the chance otherwise.
  11. Well, considering that some features of the SVT-40 were incorporated into the G43, the comparison isn't all that outlandish. And the SVT wasn't a bad weapon. It was its complexity and the need to rapidly rearm the Red Army that caused it to fall out of favor.
  12. I dunno if you have seen it yet, but the sIG 33 is lacking textures for the 'muddy' terrain option, and the MG34 as seen mounted on vehicles is still using the old, incorrect model (the new one for the infantry looks great, BTW! ). Are those things on the to-fix list?
  13. Exactly. I've been an internal beta tester for Rise of Flight for about 2 years now, and it never fails that some sort of new bug crops up in the release build and isn't detected until the patch has gone live. And then, of course, all us testers look at each other and ask, "How did we miss that?" It's human nature. It happens.
  14. I would like to hear Battlefront's take on this, because AFAIK they have never said one way or the other whether this is the sort of AT behavior they intend infantry to have.
  15. Seconded. I was so happy back in the day when BF announced they were opening up the repository, but sadly it's always been a cluttered mess and a nightmare to navigate.
  16. I'm strongly encouraged by this latest patch to see that BF is making improvements that positively affect hi-end systems. Hopefully this trend continues. As well, I agree that the flavor objects could do with..more flavor and fidelity. It's a bit jarring to see all park benches, barrels, and crates intact after absorbing a heavy artillery barrage.
  17. Yeah, it's always sad to see the sad shape of their collection. On the contrary is Latrun where, despite the whole collection being outside, most of what's on display is in very good shape
  18. Excessive heat, which if left unchecked can cause the barrel to warp in a hurry. That's why MG42 gunners carried spare barrels, for instance.
  19. Plenty of gamers have upgraded their computers in recent years. On the contrary, it's that small minority of people here that think, because their computer runs CMx1 fine that it should also run CMx2 fine, the CMx2 engine shouldn't be asked to do more than it's doing right now. That mindset has to die sooner rather than later.
  20. Bump. Muddy textures still missing with 1.11.
  21. Bump, as this issue is still present with 1.11.
