One little point, I had a Stryker pretty close to the edge of the map. I ordered the troops inside to disembark, which they did, but the tailgate hatch went over the edge of the map, and the vehicle was then 'locked'! It would take the orders, but just stayed put. Tim

Massive improvement in interface control, cursor goes immediately where I put the mouse instead of having to wait for it to catch up. Whole game seems much smoother, and I am getting my ass kicked in double-quick time instead of waiting hours! Brilliant!! I think we are at the point where the game SHOULD have been released, so from now on, instead of sorting out 'issues' it can only get even better and better. Thanks Battlefront! Tim

BUYER BEWARE...you may have overpaid!

Oh, you just had to ask, didn't you??!!! Clearly, just by even asking the question, you have obviously been labouring under the misunderstanding the the British government over the last few decades has been based on common sense, fairness and a desire to do what is best for the people. Oh dear me..... Tim -
What was the colloquial German name for a Mark IV ?
wunwinglow replied to Philippe's topic in Combat Mission: Afrika Korps
Only if launched stupidly too far from the beach by commanders who didnt have a clue. On the Brit beaches though it was used to good effect. As usual a weapon is only as good as the guys who know how to employ it effectively. </font> -
BUYER BEWARE...you may have overpaid!
wunwinglow replied to aleader's topic in Combat Mission Shock Force 1
Exactly. If you were happy to pay the price at the time you bought it, you were happy to pay the price when you bought it. If it didn't live up to your expectations as a consumer, that is a different matter. But it isn't exactly headline news that you pay a premium for being an early adopter of high-tech consumer goods. Hey, I've an idea. Buy another one of these cheap items, than your average price for each will drop massively, thereby saving you a bunch of dollars on your original purchase! Lies, damned lies and statistics.... Tim -

Tac AI in 1.03 still truly awful (much worse than CM1)

Hey, listen to what the guy is saying. If the two units acted as he described, then there IS something seriously wrong with system. If my flight sim landed 20 metres above the runway, that would be wrong. If my bike racing sim allowed me to plough through the armco as if it didn't exist, that would be wrong. Not a feature, not an abstraction, it DESTROYS any semblance of realism and ruins the game. And in a combat game, two squads of enemy soldiers politely queueing and entering through the same door, alternately(!) is clearly BONKERS! Don't shoot the messenger, listen to the message. As I am sure them's that can do something about it are doing. 1.03 vastly improved my game, and I a sure subsequent patches will do the same, but unless the developers get to hear about issues like this, they won't be able to take them into consideration. He has offered to provide the file to replicate the issue, so I think he is being helpful in this case. Tim -
"Hey, Ahmed, you've changed your aftershave, haven't you?!" Tim

Hmmm, we use a top end CAD program at work that cost 100 times more than this game, and we get at least two CTDs a day..... Never mind, the maintenance fee is only £1250 a year, so what can you expect??!! Tim

Monster improvements, although it highlights even more brutally how much I need a new PC! Tim

Boxers? Is that dogs or shorts? Or BMW motorcycles? If its motorcycles I'm interested, and I'll make a bid to start things off.... Tim -
Me too, me too! I can spell. I can read. I can spell and read. Look, look, see the draft document. It is full of mistakes. See the blue pencil. The blue pencil scribbles. Scribble, scribble, scribble. Now see the corrections. They are good. Look, look, see the printer. See the new book. It is good. See the pedants. They are angry. The pedants have nothing about which to complain. Poor pedants. Tim ( King Pedant III)

US Americans? As in WE Americans? Or United States Americans? As opposed to, say, Argentinians? Being an proper, real, genuine Englishman myself, I am afraid I have not bothered to learn ANYONE elses language, so I tip my hat to anyone who tries to learn English as a second language. And that includes Americans... And maybe even Australians! Tim

Just wondering, what happens if you only have one end point to the move? Presumably if the ground is flat, the vehicle will follow a straight line to the endpoint, ignoring the road? Or will it follow the road because that is the smoothest ride? If there were walls or buildings intervening, so it HAD to follow the road, what would it do? It would be very handy to have a 'follow the roadway' command, and maybe 'a follow that other vehicle at 2/4/8 second interval' command as well..... Tim

Thanks Battlefront! I know we are moaning a bit just now, but if more outfits responded as quickly as this, computerland would be a much nicer place than it sometimes is! We do appreciate it! Tim -
I think he's being ironic. He has clearly been reading the forums with some diligence! If he was for real, he'd have sounded off long ago.... Tim PS Maybe I'm wrong. He hasn't twigged that you can play on the Syrian side and do PRECISELY what he is suggesting...

Whatever the causes, isn't the problem simply that the vehicle in the game is not doing what a real vehicle being driven by a human driver would do, or try to do. It is this mismatch between the players authority to issue orders, and the ordered units behavior while trying to follow those orders. A real unit would NOT get orders dictating speeds, accelerations and turn radii. It would be told to go from here to there, via this road, behind this feature, and the crew would sort out the finer details. The reason I have found this game to be rather more frustrating than enjoyable, is that units sometimes don't do what they are told to do. But far worse, when they CAN'T do something and need to come up with an alternative, it is NOT what a human driver would do in real life. And so the illusion is broken; and thats the point I start to loose interest. This will get fixed, of course, but I'm going to pass on the game until a few more patchs are done. I'm glad I bought it, if only to show my support for the team, but I'm not playing it at the moment; just too frustrating. Tim PS I think Charles deserves a holiday!!!
