  1. PaintShop Pro will do 98% of what Photoshop will do, and 100% of what you will need to do to mod these sorts of bitmap files, for 20% of the cost. http://www.corel.com/servlet/Satellite?pagename=Corel3/Products/Display&pfid=1047024307383&pid=1047025487586 Usual disclaimer, no commercial connection with Corel, just a happy customer. wun
  2. Ever felt gloriously smug, and then awfully guilty and humble a micro-second later? Closest I have ever been to an 88 is in a museum.... wun

  4. Wicky, yep, that's the operation! According to the 79th Armd Div History, 2 M4s operating near Veere had fired 1400 rds of 75mm and 30 boxes of Browning ammo between them, and a couple of AVREs had gone through 34 boxes of Besa ammo. It was a brutal operation. Pity CMAK doesn't have Crabs, SBG AVREs, Buffalos, LCTs etc. LCT? It isn't finished, but I have done a bit more work to it. Trouble is, I get distracted too easily; just now, by CMAK! Thanks for your kind comment! Wun
  5. I thought the cliffs at Dover were white..... kd123, read the manual, pages 134 to 155 should get you started. Have a look in the 'Scenario' folder of your CMAK installation as well. This should give you a good idea of how it all works! Wicky, could I have a 'Walcheren'? You needn't bother with the fluffy dice though, they wouldn't last long on my Yamaha FJR.... wun
  6. Oh my poor old Athlon.... Time to get a new PC, methinks! Anyway, it loaded after a while, looks magnificent! Except for Ammerican flags! Eek! I changed the American artillery spotter to a Brit 5.5 inch chappie, and Old Glory was replaced by the Union flag, so sad little me could breath again. How does the game decide which flag to use? Was the US spotter the first, or last unit added to the unit list? Anyway,, I'm giving it a try, don't know if it will be me or my computer that gives out first.... Many thanks Kingfisher, wunwinglow
  7. Thanks guys, I'll try your suggestions. Much appreciated. wunwinglow
  8. in other words, can I make troops of with both Firefly and Standard M4A4 types? So far I seem only to have single type troops, or independant vehicles. I've tried having seperate troops of different types and then repositioning them into 1 + 3 formations, but of course all the command links are squiffy. I think I might need some guidance generally! My first map is at this location, for anyone who wants to have a look. I have only just started placing the units, so any advice more than welcome! wunwinglow
  9. Correct. Anyway, the point I was making was that no matter how perfectly you plot such moves, ( I wasn't aware there was any other way than to plot moves perfectly....) if something happens mid-convoy, the loonies in the following vehicles will plough on regardless (no brake lights, maybe?) until they collide, then re-plot their own moves according to some barking mad inverted fractal paradigm, usually to their own, extreme, detriment. I mean to say, If I am playing at being Monty, I shouldn't REALLY have to act as an MP directing the traffic! Or should I.... What do I care! I just got my first 'Minor Victory' with 'The Sharp End'! I'm on cloud 9! wun (who really ought to get more fresh air...)

  11. deisel, have you really downloaded 150 million files since November 2004?! No wonder Wodin can't get a look-in..... Tim P
  12. So, you just shunted the half-track in front. Do you: A Wait 10 seconds for the traffic to clear, then start again? B Barge past and get in front of the idiot who stalled/bogged? C Reverse at full tilt out from behind the adjacent building into the line of sight of a Panther? I think we can all answer that one, can't we?.... Tim P

  14. Why would canister ordnance be substantially more effective at persuading the German soldiers to surrender than any other type of ammunition? Now, if they had been fired on by a Crocodile, I could understand the issue. Tim P
  15. John, almost correct; Korean. But doomed, all the same! I joined an Il2 Sturmovik Squadron, the Cess Patrol, and they renamed me 'Wunhunglow'. Delightful chaps... Tim P
  16. Isn't there still an unexploded mine on the Messine Ridge, left over from the First World War? Tim P
  17. I'm left-handed, and I used a Bren a couple of times when I was in the Air Training Corps. I got a rap on the knuckles once for shooting singles when I was supposed to be firing bursts. I wasn't doing it deliberately, honest! Even so, it was easy to get all the burst shots on a NATO man target at 200 yards, even for this spotty 16-year-old! Jeez, that was 30 years ago..... wunwinglow
  18. Many thanks MikeyD, these are just excellent! It just goes to show how such games can be improved if they are open to modding like this. Really appreciate your effort, Mikey. wunwinglow
  19. I was wondering about the value of repeatedly playing the same scenario; I end up doing this sometimes, but of course if you know where to enemy is likely to be (AI seems very staid in this respect, unless of course the scenario is locked down by the author) you can't help but play with that information in the back of your mind. I've been trying the Battle for Hill 52 scenario recently, and I get creamed every time; the German tanks are simply too many, and good! The closest I got saw a hook down the right get 6 StuGs and PzIVs for no loss, but the main attack was still chewed to pieces; usually I loose everything! Can this scenario be won at all, or should I move on? Tim P
  20. No way of deploying by glider I suppose?! I seem to remember a pic of a Hamilcar in a field with a Tetrach-shaped hole in its nose, in classic Tom and Jerry format. No sign of the tank, so I presume it survived to fight another day! Tim P
  21. Dandelion, your comments regarding the film hit home. How many times has a traffic violation raised your blood pressure to bursting point? How many CCTV crime vids on the TV have had your fists clenched and your teeth ditto? Those GIs reacted in blind fury. It may have been wrong, it may have betrayed the higher morals of their country, their army, their officers, indeed their own hearts, but in that ultimate 'Red Mist' moment, who amongst us can say that they truly would not have contemplated doing exactly the same thing? To have fought through almost a Year of combat, seen more awful sights and deeds than we could dream of, had comrades killed and wounded right beside them, suffered from the weather and everything else. To then find themselves in, truly, the Gates of Hell itself, with the demons of that Hell at their mercy, with the evidence of the 'crime' all about them; come on guys, such a situation is so far removed from sanity that insanity has to rule. To expect anything else is folly. To hope for anything else, well, that is another matter. And perhaps we should rejoice that these acts of instant retribution were very isolated incidents. Frankly, I am amazed they were so... Tim P
  22. It's the variation that throws me sometimes! Last night I played the Hill 52 scenario where there are three parallel roads through a wood, with an inn halfway down the middle one. I held back to allow my reinforcements to arrive, sent 4 M4s and an M10 down the right road, where they creamed a bunch of Stugs, turned into the woods, broke through behind the village and toasted 3 or 4 Pz IVs between them. I lost the M10, eventually. Meanwhile a mix of M4s and Firefly on the left caught 4 more Pv IVs on the left and toasted them all too! I couldn't believe my luck! Swung right to join up with the rest of my M4s to assault the village from two sides simultaneously, and lost EVER SINGLE TANK! 1 Panther and one Pv IV took out at last 10 between them, in a matter of two or three moves. I had already dealt with the AT on the left, there was another on the right but it was silenced; maybe it took out two of the M4s. It all happened so quickly... wunwinglow
  23. John Kettler, I understand your misgivings about the area bombing done by the RAF, but it will be a long time before general population of Great Britain (those who know anything about it, that is, our current education system seems appallingly bad at education youngsters about their recent history) think anything other than 'Well, they started it, they got their just reward...' And that includes me. I'll just mention Guernica, Coventry, and Bath (my birth town). War is hell. If its moral challanges trouble you, I would question your 'playing' at it with a computer game such as Combat Mission. wunwinglow
