The Wrong Left Turn and the Uncanny Valley

So this is abstraction in action. I don't get it then.... But the sky looks nice! Is that the Plough (Great Bear) rising over the mosque? Tim -
..that the bean-counters rule, and the concept of putting out a top quality product is compromised by the need (or greed) to hit schedules and profit forecasts. Very short-sighted in my view. Once bitten, twice shy, however good the previous stuff was.... It is difficult to build a loyal customer base that will buy from you based on previous happy buying experiences, and so VERY easy to loose it all by taking them for granted. Tim

I remember being able to mod explosions in Combat Flight Simulator 2 so there were little strikes all around the main bang; it looks especially effective over water, where the main spout would have loads of little fragment splashes; and this was 5 years ago! I agree, bang/flash in the air, mess of smoke and dust on the ground. But no zooming over to the target area and hearing the screams of otherwise invisible enemy troops... Tim

My, you are a little ray of sunshine, aren't you.... Tim

Survival logic. Oh, there's a thing. Can it eat me? Yes, run away. No, can I shag it? Yes, shag it. No, can I eat it? Yes, yumyum, No, move on...... We are all the same. And remember, we share 65% of our DNA with lettuce, and 99% with chimps. We really do not have ANY excuses!!! Tim

...and we 'enjoy' playing a game based on this reality. Makes you think, doesn't it..... Tim

Absolutely. Half my frustration with the game is the command system. Always good to try out something new, but in this case it is definitely 1 step forward, 5 or 6 back. In my opinion.... Tim

Quick battles and where are the enemy?

I just used a dozen strykers plus infantry squads, 3 105mm support vehicles, a humvee, spotter and more. Enemy? 2 squads of what looked like mujahadeen, and an AT team. They all stayed in their trenches in the far corner of the battlefield. Can't say I blame them, either... And another thing. When I targeted the mortars on them, all the fragments from the explosions that went over the edge of the land, just went down, and down, and down.... Is there a Turtle and 4 elephants underneath? Unofficial Poll - who uses the camera keys

mouse to screen edge only.... Tim -
Perhaps be able to see from where your units are, including zooming in (binoculars, sights etc) otherwise plot your movements on a map.... Tim

I gather the other players of this game can take it VERY seriously though..... Tim

I haven't tried this yet. Does the menu graphic change to reflect the new key assignments? I must say I'd rather have the one single menu, even if it was longer, than the multiple ones provided, but I know BF are very proud of this new 'feature' so it won't get changed now.... Tim

I've had one turn almost at right angles to its launch direction, and still hit the target. Well, A target, I don't know if it was the one the gunner was originally intending! Tim

If you are discouraged, try this

49 and getting my butt kicked every day... With no mouse lag to blame, I can now claim all the credit for myself! Tim -
Bang. Weeeeeeeeee.... Crump. How difficult was that? Tim

I'm getting this problem as well; just assumed it was my old low end PC, but it happens whatever the settings I choose. It appears that the tiles NEARER the viewpoint are set to a worse resolution than those off in the distance. Roads and ground cover on the horizon are sharp sharp sharp, but suddenly they fuzz to chessboard blobs about halfway down the battlefield. The buildings and vehicles remain sharp at whatever the distance. Explosions way away look like a solid mass of grey cubes flying about as well, when the finishing cloud of dust would be more than adequate, and much more realistic. This happens whatever the settings. This also happens on my PC at work, which is quite a different beast. I'll get the rig details if anyone is interested. And some screen grabs... Tim

Give us back "Use Main Gun"

Quickest way to unload the main gun so he could load HE, maybe.... Tim -
Er... correction... one small thing

I thought I'd just slept through 18 months and the Juno/Gold/Sword module had been released! But no, it was all a dream (wibbly, wibbly, fade.....) Tim
