  1. Its a cartoon man. The guns didnt literally spit out shells either if you didnt know
  2. Well I hate to be that guy but Im just not supporting a WWII with the new engine unless it changes completely especially with that kind of attitude about the original games which still have a community It doesnt give me anything near the same enjoyment as the original CM. I need a cross between contemporary war games and the turn-based games where you were moving troops around in hexes. Not a cross between sudden strike and CoH.
  3. Im talking about the same style, not 1:1 representation. I raelly dont see a future with 1:1 representation with serious realistic war games, the AI is just too difficult to simulate. I would however love to see the original CM engine reworked or advanced or even a new theater opened up like the Pacific Be honest, who else would pay for a new CM in the Pacific or China or Europe as a whole? Or even other wars on a similar engine to this one? I'd love to see amphibous assaults, better buildings, rooftops, better/smoother terrain representation, caves, better fortifications, occupiable bunkers, smoke grenades. I know the devs are burnt out with WWII but the abstractness of the original CM still has a very serious following IMO. What would really crown the CM series would be a reworked all theater WWII representation with new features. There's plenty of areas to advance not involving trying to do a 1:1 representation. I dont care for a series moving closer to other games like Company of Heroes or whatever, I want my little boxes I can move around and fire at other boxes not brainless individuals too stupid to hunker down behind a building from enemy fire or know when to make a run for it. I want strategy and tactics dangit. And if 1:1 rep takes away from that, then I dont want it. I'm perfectly aware what a rifle squad is doing without watching each individual soldier. At least let someone else develop it, I cant play anymore CMSF and I dont wanna play anything else with the engine
  4. I havnt had much luck with WeBoB for IP games yet. But then again I stopped looking because all it led to was me checking my e-mail constantly and never getting any challenges I feel simiar. I think its best to find someone to play with regularly. I once played with someone for weeks with huge battles. Lost touch with him though. Do you have any instant messengers or anything? I think TCP/IP players should get to together using a messenger to hook up for games, maybe post a list every once and a while of nicknames for playing. It would be much better than a chatroom because nobody really monitors a chatroom and a messenge screen pops up plus you can tell when people are away and when they'll be back etc. I use AIM personally, im refugeeca Im in Korea and I dont have crap else to do but play games and I dont enjoy PBEM much compared to IP games. I'd rather have to save and reload instead of go through so slowly. Let me know if you wanna play [ November 22, 2007, 02:18 AM: Message edited by: PLM2 ]
  5. The army logo totally turns me off. It was completely unnecessary, they dont have that commercial crap anywhere else that i've seen except for some general's unit patch [ September 20, 2007, 04:26 PM: Message edited by: PLM2 ]
  6. Total War II wasnt a disaster like this. They didnt change trademark features out of the blue. Total War advanced to a new level of detail. Combat Mission went backwards, the only thing that went forward was 1:1 representation which I never desired at the expense of gameplay and AI. You cant tell me they'll be able to fix this. You simply cant create the commands that give your AI a brain. If you dont want them to expose themself somewhere, they have no way of knowing whereas in CM they at least followed a fixed point as squads even if it wasnt totally realisitc representation. Ive always been a big CM fan, I tell people on shooter forums to check it out because its such a great representation of the realistic battlefield IMO. I just dont like the gameplay or the lost features. I dont like that there's no water, you cant fix the AI to behave logically enough in this situations, and its a game designed to rely on that heavily. I'm not even sure I care that the hard copy of the game was sent to my old address, even though it cost me $70 because I dont see the possibility of having the intention to play the game again. Ive never payed $70 for a game, I thought CMSF would be worth it, i didnt not have unrealistic expectations. I expected an advanced level of CM. This is like a different series like CM only in the turn-based gameplay, commands, and delays. Its not what I wanted at all \\and me and many others are upset, quit hating. Face it, this isnt the Total War forums. Not too many of us are 12 years old. Im really upset about this game. I wouldnt post if there wasnt blatant denial going on here. I got a friend to play the original CMs, he seemed like the last person that would play that type of game. He was really looking forward to this too since its current and hes infantry, same opinion. 7. 2005-2009 (?) 14J Air Defense Command, Control, Computers, Communications & Intelligence Tactical Operations Center Enhanced Operator/Maintainer. Work in Bn TOC in a patriot missile defense unit. Original contract was 2 1/2 years otherwise i'd have never picked the job. Reclassing to 13R in the next couple months, firefinder radar operator for an additional 1 1/2 years commitment.
  8. You mean the one known as Battlefront ? I think I need to unless its getting here tomorrow as its my last day
  9. I wish there was a way of knowing if it was en route because if they sent it today i wouldnt get it. Wouldnt get it unless it was already sent. And I have no idea what my new mailing address will be
  10. I really need mine before Thursday as I'm PCSing Thursday from here and I'm not coming back, I figured 2 weeks would be enough. I've never had a package take that long
  11. There's a number of things I'm upset about at this point. Shutting down the forums for a week wouldnt hurt, but I dont see these complaints going away. I'm sure nobody needs to hear it again but i'll say it anyway to add to the numbers. But please do read my comments on atmosphere with the ** Inability to purchase troops is upsetting. Maybe it was mentioned prior to release but I dont have the time to keep track of every topic. When I think of combat mission, purchasing units and choosing what to bring is one thing I enjoy very much and its a key feature I mention about the CM series, realistic for individual battles or not. The game is way too much like Squad Assault. I havnt seen anything near the suppression of the original CM, in fact I like the way the AI in Squad Assault behave better. I knock down enemy squads to 1 or 2 men and they still try to drive on. I'll steadily kill infantry crawling at my tank and they wont so much as stop or try to crawl away. IMO, this game would have been far more enjoyable if it hadnt gone into the realm of individual soldiers modelled. I'm sorry, but I cant see anybody convincing me that BF hasnt managed the impossible task of making that AI, IMO it shouldnt have been attempted. I'm gonna try to keep interest, but as it is its coming across as a game I'm already losing interest in. I also was hoping for a lot more atmosphere. Theres very little communicating among the grunts and it seems very minimal. ** I wanna hear atmosphere. "He's over there!" "Get that **** face!" "Clear!" Expletive expletive this and that. I dont wanna hear "Charge!" and vague yells of "Move it!" or "Go go go!" I'm sorry. I wasnt around long before CMAK but in a game where individual soldiers are modelled, I'd like to hear more chatter, not less. I paid $70 for the game and goodies, this isn't a mod which gets more additions. IMO its really lacking in atmosphere to the point I find myself reading a book while waiting for uneventful turns (which I cant fast forward) to pass Why cant we ever hear insurgents say "Allah Akbar" and they have the same problem in general. A lot of insurgents in Iraq come from Syria. Theirs a popular shooter game out right now called "Insurgency" and the insurgents say that at times, IMO it doesnt cross any line. I've heard it argued that they only do it for the cameras, I dont buy that. Theres videos of Marines closing in on insurgents yelling it. I dont like the way building clearing is done either There's a few changes i like. Calling in artillery is much better, the new engine is nice aside the individual soldiers modelled, its great to see vehicles actually turn instead of just pivoting. The greater variance in building types/sizes is awesome. I like the terrain features better. I like being able to fight blue on blue and red on red etc (Would be fun to play Italians vs Germans or Brits vs Americans or Soviets vs Allies.) I like the better structured objectives. At this point I'm telling my friend in Japan to hold off buying the game, he might or might not like it, but its completely different than the original CM and that doesnt mean its better at this point. 12. This game feels almost exactly like Squad assault. The lethality is really high, only thing is that in Squad assault squads would run away after so much pressure. I'm not sure if I just havnt created enough pressure, but every unit i've used or came into contact with has not caved even after losing all but one. I really miss the way units would flee under pressure
  13. I was at the National Training Center and I was near some people playing as snipers on a rooftop. We heard these weird whistling sounds up in the sky. I looked up and I didnt know what it was. Looked like someone was shooting up fireworks they left swirling tracks in the air. After a while I noticed there were 2 A 10s flying way up shooting flares or some fake stuff at us. Definately didnt hear anything, they were so far up I thought they were drones for a minute
  14. A good part of fun in CM is being able to outfox your enemies in purchasing things. Otherwise it might become predictable and the unpredictability is phased out more. Im really not liking this change either
  15. I always find it angry when shooter game servers will kick you for bad words or even apply a filter. IMO swearing should be much lower level of filtration than violencve, therefore all realistic violent games should have swearing allowed on all servers regardless of owner.
  16. Its hard for me to imagine WWII with individual soldiers. It might be great but I just dont see myself liking it more than the previous combat missions, which makes me sad because I dont want to see them die out.
  17. You should see the "Insurgency" community, a new HL2 shooter mod.
  18. A lot of the so called 'mercenary' companies have unarmed truckers or at least unarmed in the past. Stupid, yes, I guess thats what you have to do to avoid being called a mercenary
  19. I'm playing a QB Meeting engagement with m13/40s vs Crusaders and Valentine tanks. Needless to say, I am getting completely anihilated, its been a hunt/evade scenerio after the initial first tank group of mine was anihilated by a horde or Crusaders/VAlentines.
  20. I was thinking about trying this. I loaded the scenerio and I was amazed at the scale. I knew it would be tough as hell because of the open ground and having so much in view of the enemy at the start. I was lucky and the weather was rain and fog so visibility was low, i figured i could leave most of the support things behind and move in with infantry to occupy the first factory buildings. But then I gave up halfway trying to place my troops. Just too big. Maybe i will give it another shot. I just dont like waiting for a long time for turns to be calculated. I guess I can write AAR material while waiting for gameplay to be calculated Quick question, in some operations, in new battles your setup zone seems to be a flat across the map area. While in others it seems it more goes where your troops go instead of in a straight line. For example if I moved up one flank of the map, would i have to capture the terrain along the rest of the map to be able to setup there? Also I seem to remember being unable to move surrounded units and they got supplied less? I dont know where my manual is, appreciate the help I'm tempted to play the early 41 Operation where Germans are assaulting Soviet positions at the start of the war. I played it before, but I think it would be a good warm up Edit: Found features of Operations in the features list. If anyones interesteD: http://www.battlefront.com/products/cmbb/new%20features.html#battles_ops [ July 16, 2007, 09:45 PM: Message edited by: PLM2 ]
  21. I have to revert back to a thread I once started asking a similar question. Turned out to be quite an interesting discussion. http://www.battlefront.com/discuss/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=30;t=003636#000000 I remember reading in a book called "On Combat" that using pop-up human shaped sillouette targets supposedly improved willingness to fire a lot. Supposedly it has been a problem though, i've read some quotes of people intentionally missing targets as recent as Vietnam [ July 16, 2007, 07:53 PM: Message edited by: PLM2 ]
  22. I would really appreciate this. I hear a lot of people talk about "dropped games" but i've played probably 50 games total and i've never had anyone bail on me, i think thats good. I would really like an official place to find players. The chat may exist for the forum but those chats for some reason are never popular on forums. Would need almost a forum link directly to the chat rather than relying on people to discover a chat room on a forum toolbar
  23. Talonsoft's Rising Sun game had decent information on Japanese units in teh Guadalcanal campaigns. It had good descriptions of unit makeups too.
  24. If you like TCP/IP games, sign up at http://p099.ezboard.com/bwebandofbrothers Because I am one person willing to play TCP/IP games and theres another guy right now looking for people for Friday/Sat nights and there's a few more. The more TCP/IP players we have, the more we can play.
