  1. Oh yeah. cannot wait to go through all the threads from you self proclaimed experts with comments like: "There is no way the Silver lined, tungsten, copper framed, wilkinson sword metal Mk. 23/2/adc tank round could ever penetrate the depleted aluminum, 20 degree sloped armour of the calcutta variant of the Mk. 14 panzer. I know because I read the 1942 reports from Dr. Doinker and his testing of said components." Or the "Gosh, why don't they include the Mk. 23-A2 variant. It would be so cool if they did." Only to find out that the difference between that one and the one they did include was a engine screen with rectangular holes instead or diamond shaped ones. Yes, bring on more WW2 titles please. I beg you. Seriously, I appreciate your dedication to the era. I myself have just about every WW2 title produced. I think at last count they added up to around 67 games. But there are far more intriguing times in history to represent. All I am saying is lets expand our minds a little.
  2. I would take CM: Afghanistan, Korea, Vietnam, Chechnya(?), and Cold War Europe over another WW2 title any day. I hope they abandon WW2 and keep coming out with these more modern theatres. Let TOW2 cover WW2 as they are doing a great job of that.
  3. It happens in both DX 9 and DX 10. I will report it as you suggest. The good thing is even on one vid card it runs great on my rig. Does anybody else feel the sky is to bright?
  4. My specs: i7 920 @3.5ghz, 2 x ATI 4870 1GB in Crossfire, MSI X58 Platinum MB, 6 gb DDR3, onboard sound, 1920 x 1200 @ 60Hz, 24" monitor, 300GB Velociraptor In XFire screen flickers and has bright flashes. Once I turned XFire off it ran fine. All drivers are updated.
  5. This has always been an issue with any game that has good guys and bad guys. Shooters allow you to die multiple times and as long as you win in the end everyone is happy. Wargames have the same issue. I remember playing Napoleon in Russia starting with 500,000 troops..I won the battle but only had 22,000 troops left. Because there is no actual life lost on the computer you take way more chances than you would in RL. What the heck I will just start again. Even when the objective of a given battle is successfully reached we keep on chasing the enemy around because, well, isn't the idea to wipe them all out? LOL And quite frankly the developers of the missions for many games force you to do this as the damn mission won't end until all enemies are dead (at the expense of as many dead friendlies as needed) no matter if you have been successful in the primary goal or not. I have always felt that there should be a real consequence to getting yourself or your soldiers killed unnecessarily. Maybe the game is rendered unplayable for 24hrs or something. Or even more extreme..the game is made completely screwed and the only way to play it again is buy it again...LOL Personally I hate dying in any game and I also don't like my fellow soldiers/players dying.I plan my missions in detail looking for ways to win the battle at the least cost in lives. This takes time and I think that is the root of the problem;taking your time is not FUN for the majority of players.
  6. First let me apologize if this post is not directly in regard to CMSF but the audience here is exactly whom I wish to get opinions from. I have been a gamer for most of my 47 years and especially enjoy games such as CMSF. The ability to plan and order your units then watch them respond is very rewarding. I assume that many of you would probably not be into first person shooters like Modern Warfare, etc because of the arcade aspects and also the immaturity of many of the players that populate the public servers and private gaming groups. For the most part many of us that play CMSF, and other similar games, are older folks and really enjoy taking the time to plan a mission, give orders, and watch the action unfold without actually becoming one of the soldiers to do so. I have never been much of a shooter game person (although from time to time it helps release some stress) ; however, I am involved quite a bit in Arma/Arma2 online with real people . I like it because of the realism it brings to my virtual battlefield and the unpredictability of actual humans controlling the soldiers, tanks, etc.. So, what if you could combine both? I am currently working on developing a gaming group that puts as much importance into the mission planning stage as the actual playing the mission. In my experience most of the first person gaming groups simply load up a mission..someone decides who goes where and maybe a bit of tactics are used but then they are set loose and what happens happens. Usually it ends when all of the enemy are dead or the good guys are all dead. Would it not be great if you could do all the mission planning that we all enjoy doing and then, instead of watching the AI controlled men, vehicles, etc. carry it out the way you envisioned, have real humans occupying these soldier and vehicles. Then the choice of whether you take part in the conduct of the mission yourself or (as in CMSF) give the orders as the mission progresses in response to changes in the tactical situation is yours. Any thoughts? Thanks, squishall
  7. Got mine today in the mail. I am on west coast of Canada. I thought there was a manual with it as well. Oh well. I am very happy that BF sales are good with this one. Keeps the machine rolling. PS I want BF to stop wasting time with the Normandy game. What a waste. WW2 has been done so much it hurts. I would like them to concentrate on the modern stuff and add Cold War and Vietnam. That would rock. Besides the Theatre of War series is very good and covers WW2 ..why duplicate it.
  8. I am looking forward to the Canadian stuff (being Canadian) and am hoping they include the LAVIII. We Canucks are usually poorly represented in the gaming world so this is going to be nice. Come on fellow Canucks on this forum..make some noise..I assume there are more than just a handfull of us?
  9. WooHoo!! It works again. Thank you ATI for upgrading your Open GL drivers. I love this game and was very disappointed that it was corrupted. Now it is smooth as silk.
  10. I just tried Cat 9.5..it does not fix graphics problem. I love this game and am upset that I cannot play it.
  11. yes, it is the latest ATI drivers causing the problems. With 9.2 it worked OK but had to turn shadows to NONE as they were offset to much from the objects. 9.3 causes the large amount of glitches you experienced. I roled mine back to 9.1 and all seems good; however, having to roll back is not acceptable so hopefully the next version will straighten out the issue.
  12. I have i7 920, MSI X58. ATI 4870 1gb and it runs smooth as silk for mission 1 in the US Campaign. I am very pleased.
  13. Downloaded my preorder today and have played tutorials and am starting US campaign. I think all is well done. Arty is stunning. Of course now we will have all the negative threads start..oh well I will ignore untill I have played for several hours before I offer a honest opinion.
  14. I have it downloaded and am playing US campaign. I love the arty..absolutely stunning.
  15. I get 12 FPS avg on low and 16 on med settings. I am running in 1690 x 1050 60hz 22 inch monitor. I hope final product is better. ASUS Crosshair MB AMD X2 6400+ 2 x 8800gt 512 in SLI 4 GB mem
