  1. Yet you play CM on the highest possible graphical settings... and seemingly do so with no consideration to FPS & smooth gaming. One could argue that you care too much about graphics.
  2. None... IIRC I used his Normandy movie mode shaders for that video. These days it has been updated to 4.0... it's easily found at CMMODs.
  3. Yes... Reshade is a post-processing app. It will add your anti-alising after CM does its thing (i.e. movie mode). It was the initial reason I downloaded Reshade in the first place.
  4. "Best" '3d model quality' is badly optimized & probably should be called "Screenshot mode" or something... FPS slows to a crawl on anything but the smallest & flattest maps. @Aquila-SmartWargames advises never playing above "Improved". I (with an older system) rarely play above "Balanced" or "Fast". 3d texture quality should probably always be set to Best however, as any graphics card whatsoever can deal with it these days.
  5. They most certainly were capable of it & were trained as such... which is why all 1914 Divisions featured Rifle, Cavalry, Machine Gun & Artillery units. As for Mons, there are a number of good threads on The Great War Forums about "The Machine Guns of Mons" as well as Zubers analysis of the German histories... generally, even the most ardent Anglophiles accept that the German casualties at Mons have been exagerrated by the British & that German tactics were not as usually portrayed (close order mass assaults). Still this is all a topic for another time & place.
  6. I don't believe Von Manstein was at Mons... or that he wrote the Regimental histories of the German units at Mons. British Marksmanship was good in 1914 however battles are won by combined arms (and in 1914 that mostly means artillery).
  7. Typically, this is another of those 'gunpowder era' myths that continues to persist... the Germans in 1914 had the best Army in the world, bar none. The British may have amazing propaganda &, because they eventually win the wars, this propaganda tends to stick (not always, tastes change... few these days believe the British at Mons were blessed by Angels). However, based on analysis of German regimental histories, the British were swept away at Mons for less than a few thousand casualties (max). The British retreated because they were beat... not because of "the French" (although they were beat too). I will agree that, by 1918, the British had a very fine Army (arguably as good as the French). Still, this example does make me sympathetic to the idea that "Crack Soviets" would be a decent way of abstracting an overwhelming invasion by Superior forces. How would you tactically model that every officer was worried that their flanks had been enveloped & that they & all their men were about to be made POW? One could argue that low US motivation would be a better abstraction... but it's all very subjective.
  8. As per usual, @Aquila-SmartWargames has figured a way...
  9. If you want Hi-Res graphics your best bet is the CMSF HD mod by @Kieme(ITA) ... it will work in CMSF2. Although, for a variety of reasons, I've started eschewing HD textures... my latest 'All in One' for Syria uses a lot of HD textures, as a base, but they've been reduced back down to standard resolution. I've used the same system for an Afghanistan modpack. Arguably clever uses of Reshade &/movie mode is more useful for improving CM's graphics. Here's one popular tutorial on the subject... Also, always remember...
  10. I've recently been playing around with CMFB, @SeinfeldRulesterrain set also comes with its own snowy tree's. I think they might satisfy those wanting a more subtle look. One minor irritation is [whitewash]* doesn't seem to work for terrain... I was initially hoping to have the full "winter wonderland" activate for January only. As such, I'm now leaning towards merging the environment mod (for things like flavour objects & roofs) with Seinfelds mod. *or [snow whitewash] & [whitewash snow]
  11. This follows my own suspicions, I believe CMSF/CMA/CMSF2 conversions will be easier using the older Engine 1 (and perhaps Engine 2) CMx2 games.
  12. Well whether or not Lt Bruce actually saw what he said he saw even he says it was a most unusual sight... which is what one would expect if most Civil War battles were more like Mine Run than some kind of Frederician Parade ground.
  13. There are a few Spanish CM Youtubers, indeed @Aquilas-ESP posts here occasionally. I imagine they'd be able to help directly or/and put you in touch with a number of Spanish CM players.
  14. indecisive I would love to read the newspaper article. Records indicate that Lt Bruce of K company, 7th Wisconsin resigned due to wounds one day after the Battle of Mine Run... which was an indecisive struggle fought in heavily wooded hills. There isn't an army in history which could maintain close order in such terrain... never mind the fact there would be no need to do so. PS This Battle summary describes the mud, the rain, the thick & tangled forests, the poor visibility, "the skirmishes" involved at Mine Run. At Payne's farm it explicitly describes Federals repeatedly running low on ammunition whilst fighting unseen Rebels.
  15. You can definately put foxholes inside of buildings... I first did it for a CMA scenario I never released & have already done so for a CMSF2 experiment. I'm pretty sure I also managed to get a bunker inside a building in CMA but, IIRC, that's no longer possible in CMSF2.
  16. BFC would inevitably create new soldier models anyway (if only to add the bump shader effects)... they already did this for the CMSF upgrade &, I believe, for the CMBN/CMFI engine 3 upgrades. Snowball merged with 1C-SoftClub... so, if BFC require their permission, they would presumably have to talk to them.
  17. There was no good reason to keep the men together in the absence of shock cavalry... not that it really matters as I doubt how often the US Civil War was really fought by "lines of men" anyway. Stories about "Marching Lines of men" during the gunpowder era tend to be exagerrated myths... for instance French "Column" tactics were not at all like what is usually portrayed in movies & books*, the British Infantry at the Somme did not "walk at a steady pace" out of their trenches** & most US Civil War Battles involved (poorly motivated) men taking long ranged pot shots at each other from ditches or behind fences or walls (or, eventually, field fortifications). In essence, BFC would just need to give the CMFI Italians really poor rifles & artillery. Still, I'd love BFC to reinvent 'Age of Rifles'... *French Soldiers did NOT fight like this **Well actually a dozen battalions did do so... although that was because they were, often succesfully, following creeping barrages.
  18. For H&E... By default (i.e. modern period)... Facades 9 & 10 have chimneyless roofs [bhcw] tag... Facade 8 also features a chimneyless roof [boonies]... Facades 6 & 7 also feature chimneyless roofs So, for most rural scenarios set in the 60's-70's, facades 6, 7, 8, 9 & 10 will be chimneyless. By default (playing a scenario, without tags, in the 00's), facades 1-8 will be flat roofed. These roofs were made before we learnt about the blender techniques... so I just alpha'd the chimney textures out.
  19. Could the LAW & the M47 Dragon be assigned different sounds (currently they both use launcher.wav)?
  20. I just checked you're right... although mine do sound kinda weird. Not too sure why I thought they weren't there at all. PS Your test .wavs will definately work.
  21. I too am starting with the training campaign... ... I also tried out some [snow] tagged effects.
  22. That's pretty common... even the WW2 Germans don't have FO voices (though they do in Shock Force). Nor do the Syrians in CMSF2 or the Afghans/DRA in CMA. Techncially the Canadians don't have any voices in CMBN either (just a mix of the British & American voice files)... but they do in CMFI & always did in Shock Force? It should be noted that even though the voice files are missing, if you add correctly names .wav files to your game, CM will use them. As such I've added at least some FO voices for all the nations as part of the CMFI 'All in One' modpack... also for the Syrians & Afghans in their respective modpacks.
