  1. I believe the Pioneer Platoon is correct ToE for US Army Infantry battalions during this period and so all the guys in these platoons should be called "pioneers" not engineers. Someone please correct me if Im wrong or corroborate my info if you have a source. The platoon might also be referred to as an "Assault Pioneer Platoon", but again I don't have a source at the moment.
  2. From my understanding there is a small difference. Pioneers were designed more to move ahead of the combat infantry with scouts & recon forces to analyze & sometimes prepare a route of advance. Combat Engineers would be more likley to work on the front lines with the combat infantry or right behind the lines doing all those things engineers do well.
  3. This has been discussed several times but I very much agree. This information should be given in a much more generic fashion in higher difficulty levels.
  4. I VERY much look forward to the East Front game but I would probably have to agree with the above. I would hope by the time the East Front game is released, the CMx2 engine would be at its peak maturity with all possible fixes, features and tweaks added. This way we can enjoy this massive front in its full glory.
  5. The German infantry units and to a lesser extent US vehicle crews, scout/breach teams and 1 man in rifle squads tend to have some randomness in armament, so that would have to be analyzed if this were done. Edit: Nevermind, just noticed you addressed this. Would be neat to have % chance of particular weapon though.
  6. Or maybe he knew too much about super secret black projects being run by the allies and was going to defect. The OSS assassinated him.
  7. Sadness, it was the only thing I really wanted for Christmas. I'll go drink drink the pain away while perfecting my bocage skillz.
  8. Try playing "Probes" instead of attacks or do a -10% force adjustment for attacker. In my experience, the closer difference in points levels the playing field to more manageable levels for the defender. I made a nice post on comparison of point differences a couple months back somewhere in the old threads.
  9. Ok, nevermind. I just remembered multiple smoke rounds went out very fast in most situations and thought it was strange for a one tube system.
  10. You can use consecutive shallow ford tiles. These have pebbles and are pretty shallow and narrow when connected together.
  11. I have always felt that popping smoke might be a little overmodeled on many AFV's in CMBN. Almost all of them pop multiple smoke charges simultaneously as if they were using some sort of modernish M250/M7 smoke defense system.
  12. First off, there is no need to insult those who disagree with your opinion. I think the reason we do not have more modern graphics and a high end, fully featured physics engine is that Battlefront has to pick and choose their priorities. They can only do so much with their small staff and limited budget. CMBN could have all those things, but we wouldn't have CMBN for another two years and/or features and content we already have would have to be sacrificed for those things. Eye candy is great fun, but that is about all it is, fun. CMBN is meant to be a simulation that attempts to realistically model all the fundamental aspects of company level combat in WWII. A lot of people believe Battlefront has designed the game to do that fairly well and would rather have the game now than wait 2 more years to see decals and bits and pieces flying off tanks. I think it would be crazy awesome to have all that stuff in CMBN, but personally I'm very happy with what we have considering the current state of PC gaming.
  13. I've been playing CMBN happily ever since it was released a few months back. The game is polished and very playable. I have seen several recurring bugs pop up from time to time, but they are pretty rare and never really ruin a match. Free patches always contain a significant number of fixes for known issues.
  14. Strange, from what you described it is hard to explain that one. I would be willing to take a look at it if you email me your scenario save. I could take a look later today. My email is in my profile. Also, Just an a pick of a nit. The German 75mm infantry gun is not a sIG. The "s" in sIG stands for "Schweres" which translates as heavy, as in 150mm sIG. German 75mm infantry guns are referred to as lIG where the "l, L" stands for "leichtes" or light in english.
  15. I've been posting my wishes for rectangle missions since CMSF came out. They would ne very useful in many situations.
  16. This one will probably be included in the unannounced, ultra rare units module along with Goliaths and the "Hitler HQ unit". Hitler HQ will grant a -4, psychotic leader bonus.
  17. There was a lot of community talk a while back about adding more fortifications and options for defenders. The developers haven't made any comments on the subject that Im aware of. I too would be very happy if all unit types on defense could dig in and/or camouflage during setup. I think features like this would really add more flexibility to defense.
  18. I would recommend "The Forgotten Soldier" German infantry account, From Russia 1942 to West Front in 1945 If you are interested in U-Boat accounts try "Iron Coffins"
  19. Partial identification does not exist in CMBN. I believe you are mistaken on the generic contact. Its either nothing, a (?) or fully identified.
  20. Aren't rocket barrages always delivered in ellipse form even if you plot lines. Can't recall since they are perpetually outlawed in my PBEM games.
