  1. My PBEM opponent and I would like to know how Quick Battle Probes differ from attacks. Is there any other difference than the way purchase points are allocated? Are you supposed to play probes any differently to get a victory? Thanks for any info
  2. That is the most likely explanation since the mortar trajectory would probably intersect with the wall. The target might be out of range of the mortar also, especially if your mortar is a 60mm. That would cause a no LOF sign too.
  3. I second that, C2, command bonuses and effects, the contact system and much more. So much mystery under the hood and so little information to explain it. The mysterious behaviour was probably due to the modelling of leprechauns and/or gremlins. I think those made it in.
  4. Do you remember if it had anything to do with a backup plan in case of war with the Soviets broke out after Germany capitulated?
  5. Battlefront (Steve) has not posted since 9 days ago (Sept 21st) in this forum. They either are all busy as hell and haven't had time to write a single post in 9 days or either don't rate involvement with their fanbase as a high priority. I'm going to hope it's the busy one, but the grumpy pessimistic side of me thinks otherwise when they go this long without posting on such big threads.
  6. If belted ammo were simulated, then all your German MG-34s and MG-42s would need their ammo in a special belt form in addition to vehicles. This would be really annoying to deal with in game.
  7. Yes Skimbo, vehicles share ammo from their stockpile with nearby infantry, however, when the infantry moves away from the vehicle the extra ammo will not be available anymore. The unit would have to get in and aquire the ammo to make the ammo carryable. It works the same way as infantry ammo sharing except that the platoon command structure requirement is not there for vehicle/infantry sharing.
  8. It would be a cool feature to allow vehicle weapons to borrow from the crew's personal ammo stash down to a certain point. Like if the crew dismounted and grabbed 1000 rounds of 7.92mm, the AFV weapons would then have access to 75-80% of that for its weapons. That way the crew would still have some ammo for self protection if they had to bug out later. Thing is that I doubt this feature would get used much at all.
  9. I would also like close combat to be simulated or abstracted but this is one of those things that BF will never add to CMx2. Sometimes I wish some super rich patron would come forth and fund expanded development for CMx2. That way we could possibly get some features that BF deems too rare/anecdotal to spend development time and money on. Also, maybe a full scale Eastern Front pack instead of only Bagration.
  10. I remember Steve stating that they are working on new UI & command functionality and that they are hoping to implement the changes in one of the future main CMx2 releases. I don't think he ever explained what the big changes will be, although I highly suspect the much wanted armor arc will be in.
  11. I would also be very interested to know the facts on this. We should keep this close to the top until official word clears it up. -
  12. Does that Panther in IMG_0231 and IMG_0230 have a historical paint scheme? It would be interesting to see that on the battlefield. If it is historical, where were the Panther(s) used in combat that had that scheme?
  13. I apologize, no insult intended, you are very welcome around here. I just wanted to know if there was a legitimate reason for the grammar and now I know there is. I just can't stand the growing masses of people, at least here in the US, who make absolutely no attempt at decent communication skills. I think it is half due to the insane popularity of texting and other abbreviated communications methods.
  14. I'm just curious, are you a not native english speaker? Your original post was horrendous.
  15. No problem, be careful and don't shoot your eye out! :-)
  16. Wanted to add something about rifle counts that might be helpful to some people who don't know. One has to remember that AT rifle grenades are displayed differently than HE rifle grenades. AT rifle grenades are displayed as icons only in the special equipment display area and HE rifle grenades are only shown in the ammo count box area of the UI.
  17. Here you go Force Type: Mech Infantry Panzer Aufklarung Battalion 4th Company (Weapons) 1st Platoon (Armored Car [antitank]) This platoon can be configured to have Sdkfz 234/2 Pumas with 5 cm KwK 39 L/60 or towed AT guns. The 234/1 variant with 20mm can be configured to appear in the other Panzer Aufklarung Batalion companies within this battalion. I love the Puma, but they are so vunerable to even the 37mm.
  18. Historically most casualties on the battlefield were from mortars and other artillery but nevermind you already stated that.
  19. iPhone, why not take a actual digital camera to such a interesting place? It would be cool to see some close up, detail pictures of the hetzer, jagdpanther, stugs if they have some and the KV1. I've seen lots of coverage of the Tigers I & II, T34s and Panthers already. (Android FoEva! btw)
  20. Lol, I guess my thread is now on the "and CAS" portion if the subject.
  21. They will never start with radios. Only HQ units and an occasional HQ support unit like the one in the US infantry battalion, weapons platoon, will start with radios. I've had quite a few squads pick up radios after doing buddy aid though. That is where the one in your picture came from.
  22. Thanks for the 23mm vs 20mm info, I think I saw the 23mm at a glance and misspoke. Sadness on 20mm not being more effective against tanks. It seems I was totally mistaken on my other thoughts/wishes about the P-38. Haven't learned much about WWII air power details as I'm obsessed with everything on the ground.
  23. Hi All, I just started using close air support in a PBEM game and was wondering why the P-38 was not included in the force mix. Has anyone read accounts of use P-38 missions on the western front? Were they overly rare and/or mostly used for bomber escort and CAP, combat air patrol duty. I was thinking that the 23mm autocannon would be more effective as an anti-armor weapon than the .50 caliber guns on all the other fighters. Currently my aircraft never seem to hit the engine deck when firing on the German tanks and are pretty innefective against armor. In accounts I've read, US aircraft knocked out German tanks pretty often when strafing runs were on target.
  24. Does BF consider details on how the C2 system really works a trade secret that might hurt the game if released? I think I remember Steve stating a while back that the whole system is purposely vague, but I don't remember why.
