  1. It seems to me that an attack would be a disastrous undertaking, since the Soviets didn't have the tactical numerical superiority to ensure victory over the German forces arrayed against the Kursk salient. At least, they didn't during the first week of July 1943. Some might say they never achieved tactical dominance throughout the war. It was at the strategic level that the Germans couldn't compete. I guess it all depends on how historically accurate you would want the scenario to be.
  2. I find your choice of words ironic, and I don't see how they can be applied, except during war. Otherwise, you're advocating murder. Suddenly, I'm reminded of a line I once read on a T-shirt: "Some people are alive only because it's illegal to kill them."
  3. Exactly. Whenever someone starts a thread like this, you seem to jump to the conclusion that Nazi sympathizers abound here and you must hold back the tide - personally. I've only seen this behavior with Jews and other groups targetted by the Third Reich, or(among Americans, at least) descendants of slain veterans. I'm not trying to antagonize, just understand.
  4. So, we should just kill any perceived racist that we encounter? Shall we shoot them in the street? I feel compelled to ask why you maintain such a fierce stance on topics such as this. Are you of Jewish or Russian descent? Did some relative(s) of yours die during the Second World War at the hands of the Nazis? It would explain things a bit.
  5. Corvidae, if you're saying that what happened in Germany can happen to other peoples/nations, I agree. To claim otherwise, without maintaining any level of vigilance and knowledge of history, invites disaster. I'd like to relate something of a personal story real quick about German/Nazi doctrine in occupied territories: My grandmother on my father's side of the family was born and raised in Trieste, in occupied northern Italy. She worked in something of a soup kitchen that served German troops stationed in the area. She said that they were always very well-mannered, addressing her as "Signorina Alida". However, if a German soldier was killed by partisans and the like, 10 civilians were selected at random and summarily executed. I believe by hanging. Whenever there was an execution(I guess, in the city square) my great grandmother would give wide berth to the area when walking with my grandmother on their daily commutes. I think the troops were regular Heer, and if they were, it must have been even worse with the SS.
  6. When I saw this book on a store shelf, I immediately thought of Eichenbaum. I didn't realize his magnum opus wasn't completed. Then again, I never played any of the scenarios. The scope was just too intimidating for me. Did he ever find a way to simulate a railway gun, perhaps with the heaviest caliber FO available? Not that I'm saying he was deeply concerned about it.
  7. Jason wasn't bashing anybody. He was just singing a Dead Kennedys song. Right, Jason? By the way, I posted some more details on 1SS at 0115 at The Proving Grounds.
  8. This response comes late, but I found this thread while doing a search on Operation: Spring Awakening and maybe I can answer your question. First, I believe the primary objective of the operation was the recapture of Budapest(if for only political reasons), or at least to relieve the encircled friendly troops in Pest, but they were too late. I believe those figures are wildly overestimated, especially considering the heavy losses suffered not long beforehand during the Battle of the Bulge.
  9. Update: Stoffel continues to pummel me in(heh) Uranus. We're not even half-way through our game yet. *sob*
  10. I thought I saw this happen in a scenario I was playing. One of my squads was using MTC with a covered arc, but didn't stop when contact was made with enemy troops outside of that arc. I checked and my squad did have LOS to the enemy. So, I was a bit confused for a while. Thanks for the clarification!
  11. I suppose this is a terribly late response, but I'd be interested in participating in a tournament. How much commitment is required?
  12. I'm not happy about the delay, but a product of any quality shouldn't be rushed. We just have to hold on a bit longer, people.
  13. That reminds me of an episode of The Simpsons. Homer experienced all the symptoms in a few seconds.
  14. Okay. I e-mailed them. Hopefully, something can be done, but I suppose it's like trying to empty a river with a bucket.
  15. If this is a general forum topic, I apologize for mistakenly discussing it here, but I was just wondering if anyone ever played this old turn-based strategy game on the Sega Saturn(Yes, I still own one.) console. Most of the battles in the German campaign were set in the Eastern front. So, I thought I'd ask here. Link
  16. I'm not the most familiar with this sort of thing, but I found *Link deleted* and just wanted to run it by you all. So, is this pirated material? EDIT: Alright. I'll take that as a yes. Thanks for scaring me. I'll just e-mail a moderator. By the way, I'm not advertising this stuff. [ May 10, 2006, 05:15 AM: Message edited by: Shmavis ]
  17. Since reading some of Coleridge's work, I've been curious about laudanum. Hmmmmm.
  18. That's one of their primary functions. It's in the manual. Once any mines are discovered, just move them close to the marker(approximately 10 meters) and they'll lob a demo charge at it within a turn or two. They can remove daisy chain mines without any demolition. Also, I think you can have them area fire at the marker, but this can make them waste all of their demo charges on it.
  19. I can honestly say that it looks too good to eat. So far, we've only eaten around the picture. Heh.
  20. I was just talking to her on the phone(She's away in Germany.) and she recalled the conversation she had with the bakery staff. They were used to Spongebob, Barbie, My Little Pony, etc. Portraits could be scanned onto their cakes, too. They had never done a tank, though.
  21. You know you're a Second World War history buff/geek when your wife orders this for you.
  22. Cool! Somebody get cracking with a CMBB version! I wonder if you can just enter the CMBB executable to make it work.
  23. Jason, Stoffel and I are playing the first battle now. I'll post a review when we finish.
  24. You might want to try posting your problem here.
