What were they thinking? I ask again...
GreenAsJade replied to Lt Bull's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
We chat chat chat and hope that someone in BFC reads it from time to time and maybe connects with some of it. But a vote here about what we think is important? I don't think so: Steve already stated that whatever we in the forum think is important is least likely to be what they need to do, because by the very nature of the forum, the people in it are the minority of their customers and interested in different things than the bulk of their customers. Steve said that, so there can be no illusions abot it. GaJ -

What were they thinking? I ask again...
GreenAsJade replied to Lt Bull's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
FWIW, I can sympathise with Lt. There are certainly times when icon placement gives me a WTF moment. As with many things (like spotting gaps in bocage) I've gotten used to it. Steep "getting used to" curve for this game, which could be argued to be a problem, but it is possible to get used to. GaJ -
I think that these days most people are playing PBSFS ... Play By Shared File Service Emailing CMBN files is a complete pain, none of my opponents do that. Popular shared file services are Dropbox, Box.net, sendthisfile.com etc. GaJ

Interface Updates with the Commonwealth Module
GreenAsJade replied to thejetset's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
Cover Armour Arc is not a UI change, its an engine and AI change. However, what I dearly hope for is an improved Arty UI. Having to start-over every time to adjust a request after clicking in the wrong place is a complete PITA... GaJ -

Carbide Carbide Scenario
GreenAsJade replied to Blackcat's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
You don't "get points" for exiting, you stem the loss. Any unit that is supposed to exit and does not is treated as KIA for scoring. GaJ -
It's tough to make good software, eh! GaJ

Huh - I didn't know that about XP .... SW just keeps getting worse eh?

Actually, you can't, at least not under Windows. You need some program like Fraps to capture CMBN screen... GaJ

Ooo ooo how about this one, for the inaugural post, a salute to the fine detail in the models: ... ya hafta love the lens in the sight... (maybe someone will post next the enhanced bitmap of what is visible in that lens ) GaJ -
Good job he's not talking about us...
GreenAsJade replied to John1966's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
I dunno what he'd think of CM, but I agree with him... -
The staying power of CMBN remains to be seen: it's great fun to explore, there's a fair bit that needs to be fixed before it will feel like a game I'll be playing in many year's time... ... the good news is that BFC has a track record of fixing the stuff, so I'm hopeful GaJ

Artillery duration and usage of rounds question
GreenAsJade replied to poesel's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
Are spotting rounds counted? You'd use up all your quick round in spotting if so! -
Do you lose points for dismounted trucks?

And... if an enemy's tank crew bails, do I have to destroy the tank to get points for it? -
Rubble inadequacies
GreenAsJade replied to GreenAsJade's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
Oh! I have two rubbled buildings in a row I can't enter: the way that the cursor avoids them, I thought it was saying "no go zone". I will play around a bit... -
Missed easter egg opportunity...

Rubble inadequacies
GreenAsJade replied to GreenAsJade's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
I guess you all knew that you can't go into rubble either. I just discovered that. Really, buildings are a mess. They provide little or no cover, and less when they are in big smoking heap. And when they are collapsed, they become a no-go zone! How are you supposed to defend in town when some guy brings HE chuckers? Run up the other end of town and wait till he runs out of ammo, I guess... GaJ -
Someone went to the incredible trouble of putting a lens on the sight of this Puma's gun. I zoomed in to see if the artist included an image of what the gunner is looking at ... darn, no joy...
-
I think this has been mentioned before, but it's just affecting me now so I'm chiming in: it's very unfortunate how a rubbled building works at the moment. I'm not sure how a defender is supposed to cope with the fact that as soon as a building is knocked down, anyone who was hiding behind it is now totally exposed: as if the building was never there. 1) Why isn't there a massive cloud of dust obscuring LOS to behind the building? 2) Why doesn't the rubble confer cover to people cowering behind it? Brief Appeal to scenario designers
GreenAsJade replied to pcelt's topic in CM Normandy Maps and Mods
One thing that might simplify: my suggestion to scenario designers would be to not to try to make the scenario balanced (or consider at all) for both AI and vs Human. I'm pretty sure that a given scenario is _either_ vs AI or H2H, it seems mindbogglingly hard to make one good for both, and is likely to result in one less good for either. just a thought. GaJ -
