Asking for an artillery piece to be included in a game is not in any way related to your supposed second point.

As opposed to the Sturmtiger which is already in CMFB? Is that too much overkill and should be removed?
I've never seen someone argue for withholding a unit before.

I see none of these jokes you mention.

I would like to see them on map. They would be useful for the assault on heavy fortified strongpoints (heavy buildings, bunkers, etc). The urban fighting in Berlin features, afaik, many battles for fortified buildings / streets.
The B-4 seems authentic for this.
With the 155mm SP long tom in CMFB, the Sturm Tiger and AVRE I think there is plenty of similar 'over powered' semi direct fire units in CMx2 game already. A scenario designer can always choose not to include them. Also, they probably won't be that useful apart from destruction of fortified positions because it would take a long time moving around.
Like @BletchleyGeek , I think it is probable that direct fire usage of such things is more of a 'bottom up' thing than a 'top down' thing.

They'd certainly be fun, but not really a 'must have'...
On a lighter note, I manage to argue politics and history with friends and strangers all over the world on a number of different Social Media channels, and yet still not bring any of it into this forum. 😕

Agreed, but here we are talking about the inclusion of a howitzer on map or off map. Not about the atrocitiesvcommitted by different parties. I don't think anyone here applauds what happened to german woman in 1945.

The only thing worse than 1940s Nazis is a present day Nazi. One might argue the populace 80 years ago were naïf about just what sort of monsters they were supporting. You can't make that argument now.

The stock CM sound effects are not that great, but they do their job. That's where mods come in however. CM allows you to modify any visual (2D) or sound asset. The High Quality Sounds mod is available for every title and provides excellent sound replacements for literally every gameplay-related sound in the game. They're pretty consistent in terms of style, volume, and about as realistic as you can get with a simple audio file.

Just finished 'The Savior Generals' by Victor Davis Hanson.
It never occurred to me much before how the divergence of political opinion from military reality can so quickly destroy what would otherwise be a successful military action, in the case of Tecumseh Sherman.
I also really enjoyed the part about Matthew Ridgeway, being a general I know little about, and now feel keen to correct that shortcoming.
...and I feel a kind of kindred spirit in Belisarius. I think he and I would have been friends, of a sort. The ability to simply throw the book out the window and do what's best to win is a skill few commanders posses, and even if they posses it, they rarely exercise it in light of outside considerations.

Compared to what most girls wear at the gym, that is quite modest, almost overdressed.  What kind of gym you go to, John?   First Catholic Our Saviour Gym For Nuns?

It's inevitable when people are passionate about a subject.
If anything, it should be taken as a compliment that Combat Mission is a good enough game for people to get their panties in a twist about it.
Dispassionate mediocrity is the final death knell for a game franchise.

I've been playing for years, and I don't have a clue.
The AI does seem to prefer short or quick barrages, but that could just be the fact I don't really present any large targets for them to shoot at.

In my battle against BletchleyGeek, I endeavored to use psychology to cover what turned out the be a significant shortage of bodies. I was outnumbered 3:1 but managed to get him to agree to a ceasefire that granted me a Minor Victory. All because I shoveled bullets, shells, and bodies onto the ramparts in an effort to convince him he couldn't win.
If he'd refused the ceasefire I would have been forced to surrender, or at least fight a diminishing set of skirmishes while he stomped my guts out.

Interesting that we are all at the funeral of our still living friend.  It's his 50th birthday, he aint dead.  Yeah, he definitely could be better in 1000 ways, and all BF needs is a lot more money and people, which they don't have, to make that happen as fast as we want it to happen.
And why does this always have to degenerate into personal criticisms or conspiracy theories?  They are a small team and simply can't do it all.  Are there actually people here that never worked on teams that had limited resources and had to prioritize?  Had to choose what to do and what to delay?

Well.. all I know is my reply which you quoted was tongue in cheek.. can't say the same for yours.
I for one feel extremely lucky that the CMx2 series exists in as many forms as it does.

me neither.  I also hate to admit it, but its taken way too long to come out.  I know its insane to even say after reading 5 pages of aragorn bashing over saying it but its friggin true.  Im sorry guys but I think the game needs a new engine or to gracefully retire.  not be dragged around as a mummified corpse like Norman Bates dead mom.
I mean after these modules what then?  Berlin city fighting in this engine? ugh.   Stalingrad in this engine would be vomit inducing.  Theres a lot of other things too.  I love this game series and its given me more pleasure longer than any other series but Im burned out, have been burned out, and the engines over 9 years old...
Think about it.  CMBO released in 2000.  I remember it well.  9 years later I was playing a fixed SF and waiting eagerly for CMBN.   Not eagerly awaiting a 10th CMx1 release.  Im sure others will totally disagree and thats great  - Im truly happy you either found this game or can continue to get joy and delight from it, instead of playing it so long it has no allure or mystery.  Its all old tricks to get around broken or fudged in game mechanics, unrealistic stuff, and knowing that its really invisible die rolls and not bullets coming down that street that decide if those men get hit.
cheers to all that remember who I am.. miss some of ya

This is one of the brilliant things about this game. Often, you're held back not so much by what your opponent actually has, but what you fear he might have. Then, after the game is over, you look at the battlefield and say "Oh, was it only that? I could have...."

If it was me, I would have spent those 20 minutes using Target Briefly with two of my King Tigers on random buildings. 20 buildings in town, 20 turns worth of 15 second target briefly commands, probably about 20-30 HE rounds used, would still leave plenty left for the assault. As I recall, a King Tiger carries something like 50+ rounds of ammo?
Lever a round or two of HE into a building, and see what comes out. Next turn, send more HE into another building. Recon by Fire as it were, but if you've already used up twenty minutes, you might as well start rolling in. You're not going to spot enemy infantry in buildings unless you either bait them into opening fire, or you flush them into the open.
