  1. If you want to play with ultra-modern NATO forces just go buy CMBS. I would prefer CMSF to keep the same setting and forces, just be updated to the current version of the game engine. Maybe add a few pieces of equipment that weren't in the original, like Anti-Aircraft weapons, and T-12 Antitank guns.
  2. I'm not sure about shelling, but I do know if you find the triggerman and kill him then the IED won't go off. Check any buildings with LOS to the spot the IED is in.
  3. Most of the time I park my snipers in some bushes or a multi story building, and I just leave them alone. They tend to pick off tank commanders and gun crew fairly well so long as they remain undetected.
  4. That's true, but it's a lot easier to get one big sound mod, then pick and choose what you want out of it than to hunt down 6 or 7 different mods and cobble them together.
  5. I would love to see Free French, and maybe French Partisans using the same coding as the Combatants in Shock Force. Imagine fighting enemy Partisans who could literally disappear into thin air.
  6. Upon further review it seems I was mistaken. Vehicle crews can indeed secure an objective. Also, ignore the naysayers, it's not "gamey" to hold an objective with vehicle crew. They do carry weapons after all, thus they are merely a different type of infantry.
  7. Definitely used the vehicle sounds and background sounds. I have my own mod for small arms, but the rest of your stuff is very well done, especially the vehicle engines!
  8. I can't find anything in the manuals or patch notes, but I could swear I heard somewhere that vehicle crews do not count towards terrain objectives... I could be mistaken though.
  9. I do understand all of that. It just makes me sad to see tanks driving around parking lots. I would love to see an event where museums and collectors bring their tanks to Salisbury Plain, or Aberdeen Proving Grounds, and drive around blowing stuff up. Maybe another 50 years in the future we can just 3D print some tanks and do exactly that... That proud and noble thing, forged in the fires of industry, with thick armor, and a big gun, relegated to a tourists photo op. It should be stomping around the countryside, destroying everything in it's path, leaving a trail of fire and mayhem in it's wake! Hot damn! Tanks are so cool! I love them!
  10. If your enemy is advancing over open terrain, find any spot that offers cover from your fire and put mines in it. Preplaced shell holes, haystacks, ditches, small clumps of trees, river fords, road crossings, hedgerow gaps, narrow alleyways, holes in walls, dummy foxholes, etc. Remember, mines will not STOP your enemy, but they will cause major delays or force your opponent to move onto different ground. Whenever I'm placing mines, which admittedly is not often, I look at the map from the enemy's perspective, and try to shut off an avenue of approach. Failing that, I will try to take away a piece of key terrain by mining it heavily. While doing my terrain survey, if I find myself thinking "it would suck if the enemy showed up there" then I place mines on the spot in question.
  11. I've got another game session coming up on Saturday. I'll post highlights after that.
  12. I do have to wonder why so much money, time, and labor was spent restoring the tank. It seems all the museum ever does with it is dust it off once a year and drive it around the parking lot for the tourists to take pictures. Speaking as someone who followed the story of the tank restoration project from the very beginning, I was honestly hoping the museum would turn it into a film star, given the fact that a typical Hollywood war movie budget could be easily stretched to cover the cost of preventative maintenance, and repairs to the vehicle while shooting a movie. However, the sad story is most restored tanks end up sitting in a barn for 364 days a year.
  13. Set up some light mortars next to the rest of your troops. Most of the time hedgerow lines are above the minimum 50 meter range for 60mm mortars, and you can quickly clear out opposing forces with direct mortar fire.
  14. Some highlights from tonight. Pushing some jeeps and armored cars forward to scout the roads. Can you spot the German in this picture? The guy with the Thompson should always ride shotgun. At this point I thought I had avoided an ambush... Apparently not, that one hit cost me nine casualties. Not to mention all four of the crew from the Stuart. At this point, my recon through Wolf Grade is going well with no contact. My recon group going around the top of the map has suffered casualties, but has spotted two trucks, two AA guns, and possible tank. Judging by the incoming rounds and sounds I've heard, I have an MG and an AT gun shooting at me right now. In my last game, that dirt road was clear all the way to the bottom. However my opponent laughed a bit and said "I'm gonna ambush you everywhere!"
  15. Kill them, kill them all!

  16. I thought you meant new game, not new module. In all honesty, if you already own CMBN you might as well pick up Commonwealth and Market Garden modules. First of all, they're cheap if you buy the bundle pack, and they hook up with CMBN which you already own anyway.
  17. I do apologize if my posting here is considered a thread necro, but I hadn't posted in this topic before. After taking a nice long time to think about the movie, I just wanted to post some thoughts.
  18. Before there's more discussion about how old the movie cast is, look at this man one more time and tell me what you see. I mean really look at him. Do you see a 20 year old man? Do you see a man who would jump on someone and stab their eyeballs out in order to go home? It's been commonly stated that prolonged exposure to combat has the tendency to turn young boys into old men. In the movie, the crew of Fury landed in North Africa in 1942. It is now 1945, and they have seen the worst of the war. I was especially affected when they sat down at the dinner table in the German girls apartment. After acting like a couple of dicks straight out of high school, there was then a story told about how they had driven through the Falaise Gap after the fighting, and had witnessed a scene of death "so enormous the mind cannot comprehend it". So yes, I think the movie chose the correct cast, a few guys who looked like 900 miles of bad road. In regards to the shooting of the prisoner, the scene is not unique in any way. Prisoners were shot in WW2, on all sides. I recall a section from the book The GI's War in which a man was wounded on D-Day, and his friend was killed. While he was waiting on the beach to be evacuated, another GI came down to the beach with some German prisoners. The GI offered up his Thompson and asked if the wounded guy wanted to take revenge by shooting the prisoners. He refused, but the point is the offer was made in the first place. While we can sit here in front of our computers with our modern sensibilities and think "shooting prisoners? barbarians!". Us people that live today and go watch these movies have absolutely no idea how a war of extermination should be fought. WW2 was a war of extermination, we could only win by killing everyone who fought against us. The movie does a good job hammering that point through the audience's thick skull, in an extremely intense and effective way. Now that's all I have to say about that. I thought the movie was great. Not perfect by any means, but a great movie. 8/10
  19. A few words of wisdom from me: Combat Mission Shock Force: "Oh sh*t the mission briefing DID say I.E.D.s. Whoops. I guess I wasn't using that Abrams anyway." Combat Mission Battle for Normandy: After playing The Blue and the Gray and The Road to Montebourg for three days straight, I emerged from the darkened confines of my bedroom with a thousand-yard stare. I then realized I hadn't eaten for three days. Combat Mission Fortress Italy: It's the one with the Italians in it. That's all I know about that. Combat Mission Red Thunder: This is the one you buy if you're a secret communist, or if you like to shoot communists. Combat Mission Black Sea: If you read Red Storm Rising and think to yourself "I want to do that!" then buy this game!
  20. Fear is your real problem. You must conquer your fear, and learn to trust your instincts. Accept that things will go wrong and when they do, fix them. You will walk into ambushes, you will get caught by artillery, and that sniper will shoot your C.O. in the head. The best thing you can do, is not to obsess over what might happen, but to plan and execute what you can make happen. Remember, dead men don't spot anything. If you want to hide, just kill all of your enemies, then you can hide anywhere you want. Also, try not to wear a reflective orange vest in the middle of an open field while screaming "here I am" into a megaphone. That would be a good start. In all seriousness, there is no tried and true technique for being invisible. The only way you can be completely sure you are not spotted is to hide in your setup zone for the entire battle. As soon as you order your men to move anywhere you just need to accept the fact that you will eventually be spotted and shot at.
  21. Judging by where the 30mm rounds impacted, not only should they have taken out the RWS, but at least one round hit the red vision blocks just below the weapon mount. Also, considering after the 30mm rounds impacted we can see a hatch close on top of the turret, I think a crewman was outside of the turret reloading the .50 cal. There might have been a crew casualty, although we do not see a red cross pop up. At the very least, the capability of that M1 should be degraded somewhat. As I said before, use every weapon in your arsenal!
  22. Yes, it is the Euroscape mod with extra mods besides, and yes the slat cages are transparent but still functional. Although, I have lost so many strykers to RPG's I'm sure the slat cage is just decoration anyway. (I'm sure it's just my crappy tactics, I'd rather roll with Bradleys or LAVs any day of the week.) Thanks for watching my videos, I have quite a bit of fun making them although I am not a Combat Mission videographer by any means. Certainly not on the level of Ithikial, ChrisND, Peiper tj, or Shorker.
  23. I haven't finished reading the whole thread. I'm on page 25 and it's 2:45am, I doubt I'll finish reading this tonight. I just wanted to see if everyone was aware, VICE News has been covering the war in Ukraine from the very beginning, with a series of dispatches titled "Russian Roulette". http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLw613M86o5o5zqF6WJR8zuC7Uwyv76h7R Anyone who is looking for an independent, alternative viewpoint of the events in Ukraine might start here.
  24. What exactly are you trying to accomplish here?
