  1. Yeah, by the time you reach this stage it usually is a no-win situation. I'd have thought though, if your guys were being targeted while in a trench you could hit 'hide' and they would go to the bottom of the dirt to recover out of sight. Doesn't seem to happen.
  2. In infantry fighting, the best way to render your enemy's units ineffective is to concentrate many of your squads onto just one of his until it breaks. But what is the best way to counter this? Do you hide and hope that his squads lose sight? Do you sneak your unit another position? Do you target the squads that are targeting your squad? Looking forward to some learned opinion here!
  3. Wrong forum, mate. Try http://www.battlefront.com/cgi-bin/bbs/ultimatebb.cgi?category=9 Good luck and Happy New Year
  4. "One other consideration worth knowing: this tactic works even better against the AI than it would against a human -- or at least my limited testing suggested this. I think I know why this is, but it's probably not worth explaining unless someone is really curious (it's something of a stupid AI trick, but a minor one)." Oh come on - you can't do this! If you mention it you gotta explain it!
  5. John, Its really worth getting into, especially if you're into documentary. The best uk site (as far as I know) is www.uknova.com. You might have to wait a little for a membership to come up, but when you do you can get access to brilliant BBC docos on WWII, and everything else under the sun. Latest I've seen is "the last tommie" - interviews with surviving WWI vets, also D-Day to Berlin (3 part examination of allied leadership schisms) and a whole lot of other goodies, as well as all their other material (Power of Nightmares, Mark Thomas Comedy Product etc etc). I tell you, Bittorrent is making cable TV redundant, and makes living overseas a whole lot better.
  6. Hey does anyone know if this has been seeded as a bittorrent file somewhere? I'd love to see it.
  7. If you want charts of vehicles, check these out: http://webandofbrothers.de/tablescharts.htm You'll be in a table and chart shower. then buy the game, and join the club The answer to your second question is 'yes' (and why would you want it otherwise??)
  8. You can't beat "armor on the boulevard" for thrills and exploding t70s. One of the best I've played, though it is more of an urban than village setting. If you're PBEMing, the stronger player should take the axis side
  9. http://raz-cm.byethost15.com/index.php is in the thread below. Its got heaps of scenarios, but its going to be pretty hit and miss until there is a way to access briefings, size of battle etc before downloading.
  10. yeah yeah, still got a long way to go on the bear. I'm playing vs Thomas (a replacement) and we're exchanging e-mails every day which is as much as can be expected given current work commitments. I'm definitely not in danger of being anywhere near the top of the group, so if everybody is waiting for us, just put me in for a minor loss, say 40-60, compute the results, announce the winner and we'll keep playing to the end of the game. Is this acceptable to everybody concerned? I don't want to be the ones holding everybody back, but I do want to finish the game.
  11. I think you should try reinstalling CMBO just to appreciate what we have now. Everything is subdued in CMBB and CMAK compared to back then.
  12. "Or the Churchill crewmembers who had been taught their tanks were invulnerable (from the front anyway) who were shocked to discover German AT fire holed several from the front, readily." Actually, this kind of thing is quite often replicated in certain players CM battles!
  13. Within the last 9 for tiger, but LfB we have 26 moves to go.
  14. This is going to be awesome for tournaments. Multiplayer support is going to take them to a whole new level.
  15. Thanks Wicky - that is the answer. Pretty surprising that it can't spot for this amount of time since the turret was pointing right at it. You would think on a shoot and scoot the commander would be pretty keen to look at what his barrel is pointing at.
  16. Hmmmm, food for thought indeed. It was buttoned, but the 50mm gunned PIII was right in front and I did have a covered arc on it, so it was pointing the right direction. This is at midday so I don't think darkness will be a factor. Sergei: Regarding 'crack' level troops- I thought these guys would be more likely to use their initiative in situations like these. Rather than follow orders to the book and get killed, surely a crack level tank would either take the shot at a weak point in the PIII's armor, or use its initiative and bug out rather than refuse to take a shot and just stay there. Magyar: does manually targeting work? I thought that you can manually target something, but if the unit cannot see it the targetting line just disappears. Anybody ever done any tests on this? As I said, I didn't expect to kill the PIII, merely to distract it. I guess I succeeded, but it was dearly bought.
  17. This interesting behaviour is noted in an ongoing PBEM, which I'm having a lot of fun in. Its not a big deal because it will have no effect on the outcome of the battle, but it peeved me a bit. This is the situation: a T-70 behind a building, a PIII at about 250 metres or so, not quite facing the t-70 - the turret will have to traverse a short distance to target the little tank in order to hit it. I want to harry the PIII, so although I know there is little chance of knocking it out I use the shoot and scoot command. The t-70 moves out into LOS and... a pregnant pause while I wait for it to fire at the PIII, but nothing happens. Doesn't scoot, doesn't fire, just waits while the PIII turns its nasty little turret fires once and knocks it out. Is this a glitch in the AI? Is there anything else that explains this suicidical behaviour? The crew were rated as 'crack' so it should not be because they dropped the clutch etc. If the commander was pooing his pants he should have scooted away straight away immediately after spotting the PIII, instead he just sat there in full LOS. Anybody experienced anything similar? Look forward to your comments
  18. Thanks for the reply. Actually, managed to get it to work (found the settings that switch between external monitor and back). But the resolution is not as good as my computer screen - it was pretty hard to read the captions. I won't bother trying again, at least until cmx2 comes out...
  19. An idle question: has anyone ever used s-video out successfully to play CM via their television screen? All I can see is my desktop picture.
  20. Anybody heard from Platehead? We have a loooong way to go on the bear.
  21. "but the next hit might sail through both sides of the turret because the reactive armor is no longer there to defeat the round" er is that assuming the reactive armor on the other side was also hit???
  22. "Why do you even ask?" for that matter, why do you even answer? With all these new games coming out from the battlefront stable it seems reasonable to ask to what extent they have an influence on the (to me anyway) biggie of them all. Does that seem unreasonable to you?
