  1. On a slightly different tact, the 37mm gun is exactly the same as the one in the Stuart/Honey? Is it me, or does the one in the grant/lee seem to be more effective? Must be just me.
  2. Great an easter egg! How do we make someone say it in a game? Walk a captured allied unit within 10 metres of a German battalion HQ? Something like that? Hint! We damand a hint!
  3. - and I forgot to mention that I get a thin black line with random digital bits that is spread from the bottom right of the screen to about 1/3 the way across to the left, just where CM interface meets the view of the battlefield. Anybody else get this? How can I get rid of it?
  4. I am one of the fogless: I have a dell laptop and am suffering radeon's obstinant refusal to not support the full range of CMBB and CMAKs weather graphics. It would be good to know whether I am doing all I can to improve the graphics of my favorite games. The rage 3d tweaker has a whole slew of features, including the dangerous sounding 'overclocker', and I've already taken off the Zmask (whatever the hell that is), but what can I do with the rest of the doodahs, for example 'Guard Band Mapping'? Yikes! Has anybody else fiddled with these twiddles? Has it worked? Would love to find out. Cheers
  5. Hey, I can answer this one: hi-res and low-res basically refer to the quality of the graphic. If you want to improve performance of your computer in rendering graphics choose low-res. Hi-res means that it will look better, but load on slower. As for the other part, they will not grid scattered trees or any other tile apart from steppe or grass since there is a different set of graphic tiles for those. If you are going to load in a different set of bmp files you should either back up your replaced files, or use something like McMMM which automatically backs up the originals. Happy modding!
  6. Have played just one scenario with Kiwis in it and it sounded as authentically Kiwi as you can get to me. Don't know what the complaints are about there. (BTW I am a Kiwi)
  7. Wrong way round. Ozzies can't go past five without having 'sex'. Kiwis say more like 'sux'. Mate.
  8. Kiwi's appreciate a good game. And why not? It must be one of the few computer games of any kind to actually feature us "Choice mate, we're in the game, gotta git it, eh?". But check this out: Seems the reviewer is comparing it to CMBO, not CMBB. Maybe CMBB didn't make it out there. [i'll duck for cover as kiwis wuggle out of the undergrowth to pick me to dith]
  9. Thanks for the tips, but I just found out the error message is generated by the blaster virus (yikes). According to http://www.microsoft.com/security/incident/blast.asp# the first thing to do is turn the firewall back on, which means no TCP  . Will have to try and work it out some other way.
  10. Okay so I found the firewall in network connections of XP and turn it off. Great, lets get down and dirty with the TcP game. So we get started and about 10 minutes later I get a notice saying that there is a problem and that I should save all my work now because the system is shutting down. The cheek! How dare it decide whether there is a problem or not! More importantly, it means I cannot play TCP. Can anyone help?
  11. Nah, you're the second, mate. Got mine yesterday. You might be the first in New Zealand though.
  12. this is the tips page right? well here's mine concerning area codes http://www.dvdidle.com/ It works!
  13. Posted by Dorosh I was replying to Stykkypixie at the time when my post would have been the next one. Several others (including yourself) must have posted in the intervening time. Do you automatically assume that every post is about yourself? [edited for spelling] [ November 01, 2003, 07:35 AM: Message edited by: Sivodsi ]
  14. Rar is a compressed file. You gotta unzip it first. I have unzipped it, but WMP and a couple of other viewers refuse to play the clip. Need "vids divX decompressor" which I cannot find on the internet.
  15. Actually on the tips and tricks forum on this site at this very moment there is an excellent AR from a game in progress between some of those mentioned on this page. Its in the post "SMG platoons-excellence for defense". Just skim read your way through until you get to where they start reporting their moves.
  16. All things being equal, wouldn't the sloped angle be less effective at longer ranges? As a shell loses height it would plunge onto the armor, decreasing the effective angle of the slope. Of course, the angle at which the tank gets hit will depend on the terrain - rarely would conditions be perfectly flat.
  17. Though of course, the Americans had been gearing up to invade Japan - they had all the landing craft and assault equipment they needed already in that theatre of operations. Still, its a touch far from Vladivostok to Moscow, though I suppose you would cut the Russians off from their supply of fish. What else is there around Vladivostok?
  18. This has probably been covered before, but have just experienced the frustration of successfully having a tiger come within 45 metres of my 45mm AT gun only to find the 5 rounds of AP fired by the vet crew bounce off various parts of the tank. Why didn't they use the two tungsten shots they had? Also, when you see the chance of kill, does that include the chance of kill if tungsten is used, or is it only for AP rounds?
  19. Ok Dalem, gotcha. This now makes sense to me. The important thing is that the hq does not fire his gun because he is spotting.
  20. What what what? The HQ fires his own pistol when spotting for an on-board mortar? Surely this is not the case. As long as the HQ has the target in LOS you can target the onboard mortar without touching the HQ unit. I have never seen the hq fire in this situation.
  21. I am sure you could find at least one person among your troops who would understand what the enemy were saying. That person would be your interpreter, if you really wanted to know. Thus, I think it would be quite acceptable to have subtitles that can be toggled as you see fit. As it happens I don't really think you would change your battle plan based on what you understood from the enemy troops, but please correct me if I am wrong!
  22. Sounds like a fine idea to me. Of course, it doesn't help you find the mines in the first place. You can start crawling, but whether there are mines there or not you have no idea.
