Completely different challenges with weaker German armor having to use new tactics to deal with the (on paper) stronger and better French and Russian armor.  We currently have many different WW2 versions of CM2 but they are all late war and all feature essentially the same equipment (and usually similar tactics).  I don't know if you played CM1, but those of us who did, greatly enjoyed being able to play early war scenarios where new equipment was still being tested where one hit did not always mean a kill.

This and other LOS/LOF phenomena are issues that we learn to "play around" but is a related item that needs to be looked at eventually.

What is getting confused in these posts is the question of whether the % of gun damage reflect RL accurately or not.  Yes, players can use tactics to overcome all sorts of shortcomings of the game (eg: Pathing, and LOS/LOF issues) and enjoy playing and winning.  However, overcoming CM2's shortcomings requires understanding and learning how to play and win against the game system.
The hope is that every evolution of the CM system brings it closer to reflecting RL.  But, one has to first acknowledge the problems so that they can be addressed.

Lots of user made scenarios and a few campaigns for all CM2 titles.  There is a N. Africa mod with a few vehicles and one or two scenarios for N. Africa.

That confuses me.  It was MUCH easier to run a scenario on a 4IKx8K map in CM1 with a REGIMENTAL task force on each side.  Try that in CM2.  I can't recall any CM2 map or scenario that large that would run on much less than a Kray.  CM2 maps are smaller cos of most folks' current consumer PC processing power limitations.
In the GAME there is evidence that being hulldown can be worse for some tanks due to the AI targeting routines than being exposed.  This is not about RL, it's the way it is in the GAME.  In order to play the GAME well, one needs to be aware of in-game phenomena like that.

    Battlefront,
Could you create a poll to see what your customers would like to see next in a Battlefront release?  I've heard you guys mainly concentrate on topics that really appeal to you (which makes a lot of sense).  I would like to see if your customer's interests line up with any of your passions.
I, for one, would love to see a game centered on either the Arab-Israeli wars or Afrika Corps.

Erwin got a reaction from MOS:96B2P in Napoleon was undone by faulty strategy. Debate.
The interesting thing about history is how major characters and events get reinterpreted as more and more time goes by.  Am confident that in another 100 years or so, there will be a revision of Hitler much as the above posts describe Napoleon.
Am not saying that is right or wrong, just that seems to be what happens as events fade into distant memory.  Eg:  Lincoln used to be a hero.  Now there are moves to discredit him (and Washington) and desecrate their monuments.  Same with Churchill.  Given enough time passing, the folks who arguably used to be considered our greatest humans and heroes become vilified and the old villains become reformed into misunderstood geniuses, often described as "visionaries/ahead of their time".  Perhaps this phenomenon is largely due to academics who make their reputations on this sort of controversial revisionism.

Note that CMBS is usually regarded as the hardest and most brutal title to master.   The WW2 titles are somewhat more forgiving as in CMSF.

    Fascinating article.
I am struck by how time changes people's perspectives on who is a hero or villain, who can be admired and glorified and who vilified.
    Eg:  From the above:
"He left a lasting imprint upon his contemporaries who speak of his iron will, power of concentration, and near inhuman work ethic not to mention a charismatic charm that we still fell today. ***********'s soldiers adored him; at times it seemed they... were eager to die for him. "
"In his early years, ************ was an innovator; his tactical maneuvering was dazzling. These innovations were refined and reached their height during the battles of ********, ******** and ******** in the period of **********.

The army corps system, with its flexibility and limitless variation, gave ********** an early advantage over his opponents. His motto: speed and more speed. His indirect approach... descended at the critical moment to decide the battle. He used it- among other grand tactical maneuvers- dozens of times with great success. One hitch: as the years passed his enemies successfully copied these tactics.

Given ************’s domination in the period up to (arguably) ********** why do we see an erosion in his powers leading to his final downfall in *********, X years later? Some historians attribute the decline to several factors: the increased efficiency of his opponents; the decreasing quality of his own troops; and the limitations of his subordinates. Or simply hubris on the part of ***********.  Certainly, after ********* there were still many victories for ************ to win, but it was after this period that his judgment gradually declines. In the field of grand strategy, he became prone to make incredibly gross blunders. The most egregious of them, the campaigns in... Russia, sealed his fate."
Question:  Who is being discussed?  Napoleon or Hitler?

    Some of the points:
"The conflict between the two nuclear-armed powers reignited last month after 12,000 Chinese troops crossed into Indian territory. In May, China’s People’s Liberation Army invaded the strategic Galwan Valley, located near India’s northern tip, and occupied over 23 square miles of territory....  capture of Galwan river valley provides the PLA strategic domination over positions overlooking India’s Darbuk-Shyok-Daulat Beg Oldi (DSDBO) road, which connects Leh to the Karakoram Pass...”
"...other commentators ascribe China’s stepped-up predations — on Hong Kong, the Philippines, Japan, Indonesia, South Korea and Australia — to a hope that the world is too distracted by the coronavirus pandemic and the economic devastation it unleashed to bother confronting China, let alone stop it."
"China’s artificial islands in the South China Sea — equipped with military bases, naval ports and airfields — pose a strategic threat to neighboring countries. In 2018, China landed nuclear strike-capable bombers on these artificial islands, sending an alarming message to the U.S. and regional powers."
“China is in the middle of a significant modernization of its nuclear arsenal. It is developing a so-called nuclear triad for the first time, made up of new land- and sea-based missiles and nuclear-capable aircraft.”

Reading an excellent book "Bloodlands" by Timothy Snyder.
While describing the East Front situation in general, it has a large section on Partisan and Anti-Partisan groups and their actions and Snyder outlines the operations of Partisan leaders like Bielski and Zorin and the Anti-Partisan formations under Kaminskii, Dirlewanger and Erich von dem Bach-Zelewski.
Interestingly the book outlines how the Partisan groups were often fighting each other as the various ethnic Communist partisans hated the nationalist Ukrainians and Polish partisans etc. while the Jewish partisans had their own agenda.

And yes, it takes a long time to recover from "exhausted".  Some players say they run their troops so they are tired most of the time.  I think it better to rest em b4 that.

The Chinese are demonstrating that they are interested in world domination via trade and military intimidation.  Western leaders apart from the one you don't like are doing a good impression of Neville Chamberlain.  It's illuminating to remember history and how much people hated and despised leaders like Churchill in the 30's, but who subsequently were proven right.

"Bloodlands" does an xnt job describing all those factors and the often insane-sounding rationalizations made to justify the mass-killings and ethnic cleansing actions by both Soviets and Germans.  Also, while nowadays it's politically correct to call the WW2 Germans "Nazis" as if the National Socialists were a separate entity and not supported by the majority of the German population, "Bloodlands" provides the evidence that the regular Wehrmacht troops were up to their necks in atrocities from the invasion of Poland onwards.
