  1. The sad part is calculating how many programming hours were spent on the "unrealistic" rocking motion when the time could have been spent on other features.
  2. Am really enjoying the campaign btw. I do wish that you had a % recovery for each mission. The total replacement in scenario #4(?) was a bit strange. But, I find it hard to keep my KT from getting gun hits that turn it into a mobile MG bunker every time I get it. Would prefer to have some repair of my armor each mission.
  3. Which scenarios were causing problems? I'm starting scenario #6 with no problems yet (but I don't recall seeing barbed wire so far).
  4. Of course there would have to be a lot of time-consuming consultations. You don't just hand over complex software to another company and never hear any more about it. One can hope that by now, BF can once again focus on the next modules.
  5. Cor... You lucky sod. Wish I HAD a carrier pigeon. I had to beat out the messages on a drum!
  6. I just created some new folders so I can select the desired Portraits and switch em in and out easily depending on the scenario. Thanks Mord and DC for the dazzling assortment of choices. Stunning achievement!
  7. Here's a link to CMBN Q&A at WeBOB: http://webandofbrothers.yuku.com/topic/13369/CM-BN-questions-and-answers-share-your-wisdom-here
  8. The technology we take for granted to play CM these days would appear to be like sorcery/magic to those guys. It's incredible how far tech and games have come in even the last 10-15 years. Now, I'm in a generation struggling to understand how to use smartphones and iPads.
  9. This reminds me a bit about the immobilization issue we had with the original version. It seemed like tanks immobilized too much and it certainly hurt the fun aspect of playing when 20% of one's tanks would be immobilized in a scenario, and it was sometime disastrous in a campaign when they were not repaired. Am finding the same problem with gun damage. It's not only a question of whether the number of gun damage incidents is realistic or not, but the devastating effect it has when you may only have one or two Tigers or KT's and they get gun damaged so easily - turning them into mobile MG bunkers for the rest of the campaign - which may make the campaign unwinnable.
  10. Neat old-school war movie... Who knew that the Brits advanced with their own farm animal and the US airborne spoke with upper class Brit accents?
  11. I used Jyri's plan as well and it worked out quite well in terms of getting the Tiger back with min casualties.
  12. "BF has chosen what, a dozen pics per side." If you read my comments you would know that I am talking about the literally hundreds, maybe thousands of hours of WW2 documentaries I have watched... in addition to stills. And I have never said there were NO insignia, I said that they would be dirtied up and faded so they did not stand out against foliage thus mitigating the camo effects. The problem is that 1) some folks here refuse to actually read posts and have a knee jerk reaction to what they thought the post was about. Then 2) they get their knickers in a twist trying to justify their ill-informed reactions.
  13. I think you guys got it pretty right, in that in any game one has to have a level of abstraction in order to make the game playable and fun. The only issue is one of imbalance in the levels of realism and abstraction. By that I mean a lot more effort being put into certain areas of the game to make it realistic, and other areas being left abstracted and more "gamey" for whatever reason. This imbalance is what gives rise to 90%+ of the complaints. In a way, it's BF being a victim of its own PR re what an accurate sim the CM2 engine is.
  14. Yes, we've been talking about that elsewhere. Seems to be a phenomenon that appears with large squads that can be split into 3 teams. If the 2nd split is for an AT team, one tends to get AT teams with inf symbols and larger teams with no AT weapons that still have the AT symbol.
  15. Interesting what happens when people like me ask questions and get such a response justifying brightly colored patches on uniforms etc when evidence is to the contrary. Instead of just opening yer yap just to keep repeating "you're wrong" like a demented robot, show a link to all these photos you have that show real combat troops (not PR etc) after a few days of combat with bright patches that can be easily seen like neon signs from dozens of feet away so we can compare em with the game pics.
  16. I agree, self-preservation should be a priority in CM2, maybe mitigated if one is Elite or Fanatical and willing to die just for the small chance you could get off another shot. But, since they guys saw their mates get burned alive in other tanks, that would be the foremost thing on their minds. This is one CM feature I have never had a problem with.
  17. Once again, it would be great to have the results for each unit available every turn as we had in CM1. I understand why things changed, cos they were funded by Aussie DoD who wanted a sim not a "game" and so a lot of the gamer-helpful features had to go. But, now, I think the commitment has swung back to satisfying gamers rather than milpros (at least until CM3), so it would be great to have some of those CM1 aid features back (not that I am holding my breath).
  18. +1 for more visible TRP's at least for the set-up phase. I have also not seen em until into the game. It would also help if designers would tell us we have "X" TRP's in the briefing. However, ever since CMSF days I tested and found that arty can be quite effective if you use it "right". Unfortunately "right" doesn't necessarily mean "as in RL". I did a lot of arty tests in CMSF and found that a LOW or (if time is available) HARASS rate of fire will do a lot more killing than high intensity fire over a shorter period - esp vs buildings. (I also found that in CMSF, 120mm was more effective than 122mm. But since we never got CM1 style stats we have no idea what the actual blast effects of any CM2 arty are.)
  19. The problem with declaring "War Criminals" is that it cuts both ways. There are senior members of (former AFAIK) US admins who cannot go or transit thru certain countries as they are on the wanted list as "War Criminals". eg famously, Kissinger... It appears only "safe" to declare someone a war criminal when they no longer represent a state, eg the Bosnian/Serb conflict guys.
  20. The scout breakdown is a minor issue for me, but I don't understand why the AT symbol on the non-AT team can't be fixed as that can get confusing and it can take time to find the valuable AT team when there are many units.
  21. The KT is fun in subsequent missions. But, there is a problem with tank guns seeming to be prime targets and I found the KT gun was soon disabled - and then you are left with a heavily armored mobile MG.
