  1. You clearly see far more problems in your mods than the average player like me. The Lynx look brilliant - just complete it.
  2. +2 to that compliment. I just got back from a month's trip and am overwhelmed by the amount of new mods you have produced while I was away. Since I love all your variants, it will take me a while to go thru em all and get them into my Z folder!
  3. A rather intelligent review as it included this thought as well: "However, the real problem with a game like CMSF is that it depicts conflict as the West (or Western wargamers) would like to fight it, as a straight-up fight between conventional armies where firepower, technology and training are the queens of battle. That may work for World War II. But Syria features a government army that has troops defecting to the rebels, while the rebels themselves — whom the West is supporting — may be under infiltration by al Qaeda. So some of the bad guys are good, and some of the good guys are bad. Pity the poor American platoon commander who’s most likely to shoot him in the back. Also pity the designer who tries to make a fun and playable game out of this."
  4. And pretty soon you won't have to worry about not keeping up a middle-class lifestyle, as there won't be any...
  5. Getting burned out on CMBN so really looking forward to this treat v2. While I LOVE the new set-up zones and addition of the German Marder recon vehicles, am still puzzled by the default set-up. The orders are to 1) clear the road and break the siege of the ANA platoon; 2) recon and clear the RHS village. So, what is the USMC platoon doing in the cliffs on the left flank? They do not appear to have much spotting value to the village on the left flank, and it does not appear necessary to explore that village anyway. This platoon appears to have no purpose other than move em to the right flank for that village clearing (while leaving the mounted USMC platoon as a reserve). Conversely, while the orders are to explore and clear the RHS side village, why are there only two recon teams and some vehicles on the right flank where you would expect a lot more in support? Why is one Dutch vehicle immobilized? It seems its only value is for stripping it of ammo. Tactics questions: What I love about this scenario is that there are so many options as to how to proceed down the road. My question is what are the most RL/realistic tactics? 1) Would one put the Recon Marders on overwatch by the bridge and let the mounted truck convoy move ahead until contact? 2) Would one or both ANA platoons be dismounted and HUNT along the road to trigger ambushes while being covered by the trucks and other AFV's? 3) Would the NATO Marder recon forces lead the way dismounted to trigger ambushes with the vehicles backing em up followed by the trucks and mounted or dismounted ANA inf? 4) Would the Marders and inf teams recon along the flanks while the USMC and ANA focus on the road? I suppose my question is should the ANA do the road clearing work until they get into trouble and only then bring in the NATO and USMC forces? Or, should NATO do the recon/road clearing, with the USMC for back up, and leave the ANA relatively safely in the rear with the truck convoy till they reach the besieged 3rd platoon in the dam area?
  6. "that company knew what its customers wanted and it is a shame that they went out of business..." Not to be flip as I was a big fan of SSI as well. But, that statement is a bit of an oxymoron. Other great game companies that I thought were also producing xnt product were Microprose, Spectrum-Holobyte, SSG (sorta out of biz except as an occasional hobby for the Aussies)... The problem is our market is such a small niche. Be interesting if the iPad version of CMBN revolutionizes things.
  7. My mum is 93... and bouncing back, yet again... seems determined to outlive me. Old school east front survivor/refugee and tough...
  8. Sorry about the losses of your colleagues. Thanks for being there so we don't have to me. Sounds like an awful mess.
  9. Yes, I have a separate folder called "CMSF AIDS" and all patches, installers, old executables and misc files go in there. Not sure why I even keep em. But, it always seems like once you get rid of something, suddenly you need it. I hope I don't end up a hoarder barely able to get into my own house for all the stuff "saved". Next week I'll do a full install into my laptop. Am stocking up on tranquilizers.
  10. 1) I reinstalled CMSF some years ago into a C:\SIMS\Battlefront folder as it seemed there were problems when in the default Programs (x86) folder. AFAIK the old install was completely deleted and there are no other versions running. 2) I tried running v1.32 Patch Setup. It seemed to work. but when I chose the RUN GAME option I received error message: "Unable to execute. CreateProcess failed Code 2. System cannot find file specified" 3) I looked in the main game folder and tried the CMSF v1.31.exe - this started the game but as before without the modules. 4) I then tried CM Shock Force.exe and that started the v1.32 game with all modules present(!!) (At least all the scenarios and saves are "lit up" and I could start a NATO scenario ok.) Yea! So VERY happy I don't have to do a reinstall. (Although I still have to do that with my new laptop - so stand by...) Question: Can I delete the CMSF v1.31.exe? Or is that needed for older saved games? Also, should other .exe files be kept in a completely different folder (as I save them for safety).
  11. I put the base and the three modules plus the mysterious extra .exe file as exceptions and rebooted. So, when I restart the game now, there are no alerts and the game seems to start ok, but the modules seem to be still missing, (their scenarios greyed out). What is that extra "CM Shock Force.exe" file? Should I delete it? What next?
  12. Yes, the files were in the Virus Vault and I "Restored" them. (So now, no items are in the Virus Vault.) But, when I restarted the game the modules still don't show up. I found the modules .exe's under Modules and added them as exceptions. But when I restart the game they still don't show up. And AVG still gives me virus alerts for one or two files. BTW: I see I have two .exe files in the main game folder: The one dated 11/24/2010 is "CMSF v1.31.exe", and the other is "CM Shock Force.exe" dated 5/29/2012 (today). Am I supposed to be using the latter? Will try and reboot machine.
  13. It may be something to do with recent security (probably AVG) upgrade, but afterwards, only my CMSF v1.31 is available. The scenarios and saved games from all the 3 modules are still there altho' are greyed out in the scenario list. What to do? Is there a way to recover the modules without reinstalling? If I do have to reinstall the modules, can I do it starting with v1.31 CMSF base game? Or, should I unilnstall everything and reinstall from the start? Thanks...
  14. I somewhat know how you feel. Just got back from visiting my ailing mother in UK a couple days ago, and just got a call saying she's in hospital after a fall... Life can be trying. But, I feel sure for some reason that all will be well with your wife... Stay positive... Best wishes for a speedy recovery.
  15. To modders re markings etc: One can see ranks on some clearly, but whether Germans or US, I found it impossible to determine divisional markings etc. http://life.time.com/history/before-and-after-d-day-in-color/#1
  16. Is it only for KIA? (Need to distinguish from WIA as I always try to give buddy aid.)
  17. I always wondered by the Brits kept with vertical armor when everyone else proved that sloped was more effective. (Well, the Tiger was an exception I suppose.) BTW: Was that hatch next to the Bow MG designed for egress, or only for shells and supplies?
  18. They look good. Was always hoping we'd see mods that would enable play of current Afghanistan. Will the clothes mod work with CMA as well?
  19. The link wasn't working for me. But no worries, it's up at CMMODS - another incredible effort by Mord and DC. I sincerely hope you don't find more errors as there is SO much there! Thanks guys.
  20. I always save my set-up phase of a campaign mission as <Filename Battle # SETUP> as I often exit and reload the SETUP file to complete the setup. Never had a problem. So maybe I just was lucky(?)
  21. "Market Garden was the epitomy of good planning in contrast." The moral being (lol)...?
