PIATpunk reacted to Freyberg in North Italy QB maps
I've been working on a series of QB maps - starting with large-huge base maps, which I am slicing up, adding AI plans, to make QB maps of various sizes.
It's still in progress, but I have been quite pleased with the latest base map, around 2.5km square, of rolling cropland. There is lots of patchy scattered cover, but also frequent avenues of long-range LOS. I found the result of this latest one quite picturesque...

The land descends gently from the north, through gently rolling fields.

As it descends, there are occasional low escarpments, offering views of the surrounding countryside.

Scattered amongst the fields, there are one or two patches of open woodland.

Spend the afternoon wandering pretty shaded paths.

The roads are generally good in this part of Italy.

And here and there are some delightful Italian farmhouses and farm complexes.

Some of them are quite modern.

    Others with a historical feel.

For the well-heeled businessman, or an ex-GI flush with looted Nazi treasure, enjoy a stay in this charming part of Italy...

Okay, I've finally finished this mod project...it's been going on in some form or another for years but the present vision was started last July or August, then I took a winter hiatus and being stuck at home has given me time to finally finish.
This mod started, as most of my mod work has, with my beloved CW troops.  I have nearly driven myself to madness in the past with my completionist obsession for modding the entire 21st Army Group but I deliberately avoided that problem this time by only focusing on the CW units actually represented in CMBN scenarios and campaigns.  I have modded the uniforms and vehicles for each CW unit that appears in CMBN (no small feat but better than my original obsession 😉), which led me to an exhaustive examination of all of the scenarios and campaigns I could find (reading notes, briefings and digging through the OOBs).  At this point, I decided that I wanted to make it easy to use the mod, so that meant looking into ModTags.  All of the unit graphics have had ModTags applied to them.
I identified 175 scenarios and 22 campaigns that would lend themselves to specific units being represented (CW, US & German); then, I extensively ModTagged all 175 of these scenarios.  For the 22 campaigns, since I couldn't add ModTags to the individual missions, I created campaign-specific mod .BRZ files, which will accomplish the same goal.  Along the way I have made a few changes to the CW armour models in a few of the scenarios and campaigns for greater unit historical accuracy but they are mostly unchanged by me.
Not being an SME on American or German vehicles/uniforms, I have personally ModTagged many of the community mods that I use and I have also included them in a couple of separate .BRZ files that can be used or not, depending on your preference (the beauty of this system is that if you prefer other mods, just tag them yourself using the ModTags I've added to the scenarios and you can get whatever mix you like).
Anyway, its all ready to go, I just need to put it up somewhere if people are interested.

PS - If any scenario or campaign authors would like a particular CW formation that I haven't included (because they don't appear in CMBN yet), then drop me a line and I should be able to easily provide it, and I can advise on the ModTag structure and layering too, if needed.

There was some testing done by players regarding the old map theory in BN and it didn't appear to be the cause of the issue.

You guys keep saying you will never do a module like that again. It was said after Gustav Line, it was said while working on Rome to Victory, and now it's being said again. I bet you it gets said again for the Final Blitzkrieg module.

That does sound great.  More than I anticipated.  I was very pleased when Steve told us that partisans made the cut which wasn't the case when this module's possible contents were first hinted.
I am bit surprised that minor nationalities were even considered.  Weren't we told years ago that BF had no inclination to go down the research rabbit-hole that those nations' TO&E would require?  Further, after the apparent coding nightmare that was including various "minor" nation formations into Rome to Victory, I would think BF wouldn't dare want to touch the Finns, Romanians, or Hungarians.  However, that they even considered it does make one hope of a possible pack including one or more of them someday, but I certainly would not hold my breath waiting on such a thing.

nice work.  It was eventually acknowledged by Steve but no patch forthcoming - I expect nothing until well after the new RT module is released given how things move these days.

    Hello,
I've gone looking for a thread posted maybe a year ago where I was originally made aware of the "evade towards enemy" behaviour (though probably an actual bug) that typically involves infantry behind hedgerows breaking that cover when under fire and running towards the enemy through gaps in the hedgerow (invariably to their deaths) that I can confirm I has been able to reliably replicate when I downloaded and played the saved game that was provided by a user investigating the issue at the time. From what I understand, this issue may only be specific to CMBN and seems to only have appeared after one of the recent patch/engine upgrades. I would have checked the status of the issue and would have posted on that thread there but I have not been able to find the thread curiously enough, hence this new thread.
So I have just started a mirrored CMBN H2H QB on a map that I know several other players have battled over, and I just had a most extraordinary occurence of this "evade towards enemy" behaviour (or whatever you want to call it).  I had three infantry teams lined up along a stretch of hedgerow in a defensive deployment, evenly separated by about 15m.  Behind them is a flat wooded orchard. In front of them is a road, beyond which the terrain gently rises, criss-crossed with some buildings and hedgerows.
On the second turn of making contact with the enemy directly in front of them, returning fire and taking some level of suppression, each team, at some point in the turn, decided to essentially break cover and run sideways along the hedgerow to the nearest infantry-sized gap in the hedgerows and run through the gap in to the open directly towards the enemy where they just get shot up.  When the teams actually break from taking casualties, the surviving pixeltruppen (eg. those that remained in place cowering behind the hedgerow) rout away from the hedgerow/enemy through the orchard behind them.
Units lined up behind hedgerows engaging enemy start of turn:

"Rattled" pixeltruppen running suicide through hedgerow gap to meet their maker:

For the full video experience, you can watch it unfold here:
    First and second teams suicide
    Third team suicide
I did wonder if I had inadvertently given move orders to my units during the previous orders phase (can happen if you just want to select one unit to issue a move order to but inadvertently double click it whereby also selecting all its subordinates and/or formation level units as well).  However, I can rule that possibility out: other units in the formation were unaffected.
Still not satisfied, I checked the QB map in the Scenario Editor.  All "Friendly Direction" parameters were correct for the battle.  I then created a scenario file using the same map and parameters and purchased the same units on both sides.  I then placed the exact same German teams from the same platoon from the same company etc that I had purchased in the QB in the same spots and attacked them with the same infantry (US paras).  Incredibly (or maybe not so incredibly), the same thing happened!  Suicide through the hedgerow gap.
Even better: I have created a scenario file (TEST GAP.btt) using the same QB map with all units in place.  All you need to do is load the scenario file, play it as a turn-based Hotseat (or SP Germans) and just press Go for both sides, no need to give any orders.  The units will start shooting and exchanging fire immediately.  You should see this behaviour with your own eyes occur within the first minute of battle:
    TEST GAP.btt
So what is Battlefront's official stance on what appears to be on this undesirable TacAI induced behaviour?
"What issue?" (no response/acknowledgement) "Nothing to see here, working as designed"(if so please explain) "Yeah, can't fix it, too bad, sucks for you though" "Wow, looking in to it, hopefully find a fix, keep you posted" FWIW, I have forfeited that H2H QB I am playing.  I can't afford to have that kind of thing happen and take those kinds of cheap loses and just continue playing regardless, let alone think it won't happen again.  I think for now I am regretfully going to just avoid playing any CMBN (or at least anything with that hedgerow terrain) until this issue is resolved.

After a year and and five months it is done! The SF2 mod really burned me out but I managed to FINALLY finish this bad boy after lots of breaks and procrastination. There's over 1700 portraits included. I hand made 60+ unique faces for this one, there's plenty of variety.
Thanks to MJ for sending me the new portraits so I'd know what was included in RtV. He didn't have the SS so I had to guess, but going by my research I think I have them covered.
Guys, please read the included "Urgent" readme in the zip when you get a chance. Things are pretty tough for me right now so I'd appreciate it.
I sent the mod off to Booty so it should be up some time soon (or maybe Ian can get a hold of him and let him know). In the meantime here's the splash screen and I posted a pic in my FI Mods thread.

Hope you guys enjoy them and stay healthy, the world has definitely taken a weird-ass detour.

Got another mod ready - and as it might not be the last, I figured I might as well start a dedicated thread for my own mods.

This one is one of my new favorite vehicles in CMFI R2V: The Morris C9B SPAA.
A favorite to play with, that is - not to mod! It has been a real PITA to mod, because it has no large surfaces, but millions of little nooks and crannies. Luckily, modding is now over and I enjoy playing with my weathered Morris SPAA. Hope you will too.

As always I´ll share it via this Dropbox link - until it is available on CMMODS IV.
