  1. Nah, I am not talking about customizing a hundred tanks/vehicles (though people might try that). But I am talking about having the option/ability within the game to have either slightly modified to full on differences between say, two of the same Panthers, numbered turrets for example, that don't duplicate at random, or two different camo schemes. The rag tagging can't be relied on. Just do some tests with Kieme's Abrams barrels and you can see it in action. You might start off with say six Abrams with six different names but once you go out of the editor and back in it all switches. I just did a test where all the barrels were different in the editor. I saved as a scenario, then loaded it up as a battle and there were duplicates. Just tried it again from the saved game file and all different again. So, if you were actually playing a scenario, saved and went back, it all would be changed. Smith's tank may have been Magneto during your first 12 turns but on turn 13, loaded from a save, he's now in Ironman. And unfortunately mod tagging can't solve it because that will only allow one texture set to be used per Tag. And you can't tag individual vehicles. Thing is we pretty much have had that from CMBN onward, we can randomize vehicles until we grind our computers to a halt, just no way to make sure they stay the same each time we load up, or to stop duplication even if there are only two of the same vehicles in use. My theory/thought was to always have hull_1 go with turret_1. etc. And load them in sequence. Or maybe there'd be a way to apply decals to the hull and turret areas? But in the end the tank with the Indian chief would always need to be the tank with the Indian chief, if you want it in a scenario, as say your HQ tank. So, on and so forth. Having all the randomization of infantry is awesome but it's the opposite on things like armor (though random equipment is cool), where you'd like a little bit of fidelity as far as the turret and hull go. Hopefully you guys will consider it down the line. But man, LOL. after asking this question for about 6 years, it sure was cool to get a response! Mord.

  3. What are your graphics set on under options on the main screen? Best, fast, etc.? Sounds like your model quality and texture quality might be set to fast or fastest. Do a check and set them to best, shut down CM and then restart. Mord.

  5. Does anybody have a list of what gun shot wavs go with which weapon in game? Yeah, some of them are obvious but some are a bit obscure. Black Sea has a lot of WWII weapons sounds mixed in. I have searched the forums and used a Google search of BFC and am getting no hits. Any helps would be appreciated. Mord.
  6. Ha! Those SF face portraits suck! I absolutely will have to redo them. I think I even deleted the original ones. I learned a lot and sharpened my technique over the various versions of the BN mod. I probably got the size and positioning the best in RT, FI, and BS. So, yep, SF2 will need portraits worthy of the 4.0 makeover. Mord.
  7. I long for when we can personalize armor. We are so close now but the game still assigns bmps at random. If that was changed we could have tanks and such with names/different camos/art on them without duplication. Mord.

  10. A new engine isn't gonna change the feel of the similarity once there are lots of titles. Unless they went back to leaving out features and that would suck. It'd be the same argument if we were on CM9, with five titles. It's guys shooting guys, tanks blowing s*** up, and mortars being dropped. They'd have to make a title about Rome, The Civil War, or Samurai or something to really change it. Mord.
  11. Thanks, John, I'll give it a read. @Erwin, reread. We are talking about the future, not now. Plus I tried it LOL. The letters would be better if they weren't random but assigned to specific explosions Ground/penetration/brew up etc. The game already reorients the explosion to give some randomness to the look. You can see it real well with the orange explosion Tom made. If you replay a scene over and over you'll see different angles. Notice the two big explosions from the Sherman and then look at the Brumbar. I believe it's because it isn't as symmetrical as some other modded explosions and because of where it starts from on the vehicle. It's very cool. @HerrTom; Your bmps are 256x256, at least the orange one is. That's original size as well. Yeah, you should try doing a test with a hires explosion, but I wouldn't suggest just resizing the one we have now, you'll probably just end up with something pixely. FEEL free to try with the one I like if you can reproduce it! Mord.
  12. And then you'll be complaining that CM3 doesn't have all the units/nationalities/features/etc. as CM2 (as I will). As much as I like the idea of CM3 (and the cool stuff I imagine it could have), I do not want to see it any time soon, unless what we have now can be brought along somehow. I do not want to go through all the waiting for theaters/time periods/vehicles/formations/nationalities/features again. It's been a really long road just to get here. I sure as h*** don't want to go back to square one. I'd rather see them push CM2 as far as they can. Stuff like new animations and the like could help freshen it up. Mord.
  13. Thanks. I hope to get better with vids. Been something I wanted to delve for a REALLY long time. Seems reality wants to hamstring me at every turn, though. I finally bought FRAPS back in January but it won't capture the sound on my new comp and they no longer support it. Shadow Play is ok but it doesn't have the hide mouse cursor feature like FRAPS, which is a PIA. Then I go and find out Microsoft removed the Moviemaker feature from Win 10. WTF? Here's something I was wondering about; have you experimented with an explosion at higher resolutions? Not sure if you can increase the BMP size but it shouldn't be a problem seeing that all others can be made hires. The Explosion BMP is 256x256, wonder how they'd look at 768X768 or even higher 1024 X 1024. Give you some more options for clarity, especially when the huge booms happen. I'd suggest to keep testing the frame limits using what I stated above, until you find the stopping point. BTW, if you notice the explosion bmps have an "a" before the number sequence, maybe that was BFC setting up a way to expand on them in the future? Why else put an an "a" in there, could just have named them "explosion001" Mord.
  14. YEAH! I am loving the orange one I asked you to keep. I don't care if it isn't completely realistic, it satisfies something in my nature to see things explode! It's looks awesome! I did another vid similar to the first one, added a few angles this time, and a shot from Fortress italy. The Brumbar explosion is friggin' KILLER! THANKS, MAN! Mord.
  15. I started gaming on an Intellivision. As fond as the memories are, I am damn glad we are past that. Actually we are past what even my 12-year-old brain could dream up, back then. Mord.
  16. There were only about three houses that were visible on that road, and they were at the beginning. You guys have some awesome villages and such over there. Pretty country. We've got some pretty remote areas here. Up Aroostook County, the Allagash, you are talking WOODS. There's all kinds of spots here you can hit and not see another person. Maine is the place. We have mountains, lakes, an ocean, and even a little desert. I can be in the city and 20 minutes later out in the country. My goal up here is to find me about 4 to 10 acres and build me a small home, something big enough to house my books, and with a nice fire place. I want quiet, I want peace, and I want solitude. I am looking for my place to die. By that, I mean the spot I am going to live out the rest of my years on. Mord.
  17. @Sgt.Squarehead: That's one of the reasons they reinstated moose hunting up here back in the mid 80s or so. The car vs moose incidents were increasing so they lifted the moratorium on hunting. Least that's how I remember it. There's a lottery every year, I think they give out 1000 licenses. My brother shot one back around 87 (I think it was). I didn't get to try it though, I was living in Maryland at the time. I saw a bull up in Rangely one time that had a rack as wide as my brother's pick was long. The bad boy was so huge that he could've put a hoof into the bed of the truck just by taking a step. HUUUUGE! Here's another reason I am glad I am here/moved back. I went with my buddy the other day to look at some tires some dude was selling on facebook. This was the guy's neighborhood. This is about 45 minutes west of us. Left hand side of the road. About four hundred yards up, on the right hand side of the road. I think there's some Russian infantry hiding in the wood line on the back edge of that bog. I get to see stuff like this all the time.   19. July starts in Sicily. The background changes in October 43, December 43 (snow), and April 44 (green). The scenarios where you aren't seeing the mod are set before them. PM if you need anymore help. Mord. P.S. Apologies for us derailing the thread!

  21. I couldn't really see anything in the vid except for gray. Needs to be closer to the camera to catch the fire. But it seems to be ok. The animation gif was badass. As a test try something around the fifty bmp mark. I am pretty sure you can go over 25...just not sure how far. Steve once said he'd like to have different explosions. Maybe in an upgrade someday.
