1. These look great. I hope we don't have to wait another week for them.
2. Hey, Matt's awake. Where's the update? OK, brush your teeth first, then get crackin'.
3. There are also mechanical breakdowns that have nothing to do with ground conditions. They are rare, but they do happen.
4.
quote:
Originally posted by Big Time Software: Eventually the Western Front will be covered again and receive the latest and greatest version of whatever engine we have at the time. The only question is when... Steve

If the engine rewrite starts after CM2, then I presume CM3 and CM4 will be released with the new engine. If so, all the kinks should have been worked out of the new engine by then and the updated version of the West (and East?) Front will be something to really look forward to. I hope my 10Ghz machine will be able to handle it. [ 06-09-2001: Message edited by: Pvt. Ryan ]
5. The sound of my doctor telling me to get some excercise. I think I have been to the gym once since CM came out. As far as the Stukas, we (someone) can mod the aircraft wav file to sound like a Stuka, but unless there is more than one file all aircraft will sound like that.
6. In case this hasn't been addressed before: Will we be able to play QBs without flags when playing against a human opponent?
7. The answers to your questions can be found here. Except the part about sales figures. That's top secret. [ 06-07-2001: Message edited by: Pvt. Ryan ]
8. Will the cold Russian weather cause mechanical difficulties, such as engines freezing up? I don't know if this is beyond the scope of CM since when we enter the battle all the engines are running and warmed up. But maybe there is a dice roll to determine if a vehicle starts out immobilized?
9. Happy Birthday Kitty! [ 06-06-2001: Message edited by: Pvt. Ryan ]
10. I was playing a scenario the other night where a M8 Greyhound made it through bocage. I thought that was odd. I thought only tanks could do it.
11. BTS never implied that Combat Mission: Beyond Overlord would cover any theater other than the West Front or any time period other than D-Day to the end of the war. Combat Mission: Barbarossa to Berlin is not an expansion pack by any stretch of the imagination. It represents a different time period and a different locale from CMBO. It has new units, new terrain, new interface, new scenarios, new operations, etc. An expansion pack would just have new scenarios and operations. It would probably also have a patch to fix bugs in the first release. BTS has already given us all the patches for free, and since CMBO has a wonderful battle generator and scenario creating utility there is no need for an expansion pack full of new scenarios. If you don't want to upgrade your computer to play new games that is your business, but your accusation that BTS is selling CM2 mereley as an expansion pack sold as a separate game is completely groundless.
12.
quote:
Originally posted by aka_tom_w: tomorrow is the anniversary of D-Day June 6

Isn't it also the anniversary of CMBO?

14. The cool thing about the V for V series was that each new module plugged into the first one. When you launched the game the start-up screen enabled you to choose any of the modules as long as you had them installed. Another reference would be the Talonsoft Battleground series. Each new title had a patch to incorporate any changes into the earlier titles. Of course we can't tell BTS what to do, only what we would like them to do. Since CMBO and CMB2B share the same engine, none of the new features should be impossible to add to CMBO. It would just be a matter of taking the time to do it. If BTS decides to update CMBO it will only be after CM2 is out the door and debugged to the extent that CMBO is now. They would probably decide at that point whether to dive right into designing the new engine or if they want to update CMBO. Of course they may want to take a well deserved five minute break first. (Which brings up another question I have: Do they work on CM everyday?)
15. It's going to be tough to beat "Other." That was a really good game.
16. In general, in a game with victory flags to capture the AI will go after the flags. If there are no flags the AI doesn't really know what to do. If there is an exit zone the AI will move towards it and engage your units as they meet.
17. There is no chain of command for vehicles in CMBO. Like all units there is a delay before vehicles begin to execute their orders. The length of the delay depends on the experience level of the crew. A green unit will take much longer to start moving than a veteran unit will. An elite unit starts to move very quickly, I think with a delay of three seconds.
18. I think Steve said they included the Super Pershing because it was really easy to do once they had the Pershing.
19. That looks really good. Just make sure one tile blends with another when you have more than one.
20. Who spilled the raisins? I think the stones need to be more random in size.
21. FOs do get credit for casualties if you are daring enough to put them up front. It's usually not more than one or two, but I have seen it. It would be nice if CM2 included a non-FOW game summary screen so we can see how units performed. I know this has been mentioned before, but I don't know if BTS has commented on it.
22. Only identified kills are reported. Artillery spotters are usually too far away from the action to tell exactly which kills are theirs.
23. Another perfectly good evening totally runed.
24. There is one positive thing to come out of this thread:
quote:
Originally posted by Big Time Software: the CM2 demo Steve
