  1. I think the idea is that you accept it, look at the end-game posns, then reload, decline it, and carry on with now perfect info about you opponent. </font>
  2. He's not really a sniper either, he's more along the lines of a normal troop with a scoped rifle. A lot of people get that misconception a lot. It takes some bad ass skill to hit a TC from 300m even with a scope if you don't have serious rifle discipline. The abstractions aren't perfect but work well with the rest of the ingame abstractions, especially since that dude is going to be taking a ton of shots but only the grazing / hits are going to matter.
  3. It's ten 'shots'. Like all infantry small arms his ammo is abstracted. So in those ten shots he has shot maybe 20-30 rounds. The critical hits are shown visually and are deducted from his ammo count.
  4. How did they aim with remote mg's anyways? With a mini parascope, or did they just guess?
  5. Was it true the Modello was effective up to 275m or so? I heard this, probably a rumor. Someone prove me wrong or right.
  6. I really don't see the point in playing a scenario unblind on both sides. An operation, maybe, but a scenario usually has too little variability to not be exploited by excessive intelligence. Especially if it's a scenario where something specific happens - when a player isn't caught off guard he has ample time to react to whatever threat comes his way. Very rarely is a scenario generic enough to be replayable, in my opinion. Sometimes, if I've played a scenario and my opponent hasn't, I'll play as defense. I feel this is the only exception to my rules because defenders typically don't have to react to suprises, they just have to brace themselves for whatever happens and adjust.
  7. I thought it was pretty obvious what it did. With it on, it would 360 around the area you are at. With it off, it would 360 around the entire horizon. Keep messing with it, you'll notice the difference.
  8. A FO is short for Forward Observer. A Forward Observer basicly is the guy(s) spotting the artillery rounds.
  9. A lot of people think the sharpshooter ingame is a dedicated hardcore sniper. In reality it's just a guy with a scoped rifle / above average rifle skills. You could simulate a hardcore sniper by making him elite or something, I'm not quite sure what rank they are in Ghetto scenario.
  10. Crew casualties wouldn't prevent the tank from firing, as they would just try to position the wounded / dead aside so they could continue operating the tank. If the gun was damaged then the tank shouldn't be shooting, but I doubt that was the case. Maybe you misinterpeted a 'gun hit' as a gun damage, or if they had two cannons maybe the other could still fire. Internal flaking is when a round hits a tank and doesn't penetrate, but hits hard enough to cause the armor inside to flake off on the crew which is potentially hazardous.
  11. Close Combat: First to Fight is not made by the same people who made Close Combat strategy series. The games aren't even related, just the names. Just a heads up.
  12. The difference between a regular tank and a veteran tank is huge. If you're buying an expensive tank destroyer you will want a veteran, it improves your odds on tons of levels (especially if the weather is against you, because then they will use the optics better than a regular would). That extra reponsiveness and accuracy will give you the edge. Buying anything above regular always gives you an edge if the conditions are with you. In a straight out infantry fight, vet infantry vs regular infantry has much greater odds and will almost always come out on top. You must also consider that buying vet infantry will also land you a crack and regulars, while buying regulars just gives you vets and greens (and greens are considerably worse than a regular at attacking). On defense I buy regulars, because with proper HQ's they will fight well and hold position, plus you will get more of them. On attack I may consider getting veterans just so I can push against entrenchments easier. Buying vet infantry is much riskier than buying a vet tank because you constantly are using your infantry and they are very fragile. With infantry, you have less chance to risk. When I buy regulars in a 1250 game I typically can waste a platoon and not feel bad. Wasting a veteran platoon can hurt. However, if you're playing 2000pt games I see lots of room for error and it's more forgiving in my opinion. When it comes to just buying units flat out though, each country has their own unique weapon that always gets whored out in QB's. For the germans its the 150mm infantry gun. For the brits it's usually the Matilda, this all depends on the year / month and where the fighting is being held. I personally think in all the CM games the Axis have an edge in QB's, especially under variable rarity.
  13. Why are they listed as their own 'thing' though (radio car). It seems like if it's a specific radio car chasis then labeling it as a radio car would be over doing it. I'm curious why they are labeled radio vehicles, maybe it's just for completeness.
  14. April 1944 is when the Soviets began to use APBC ammo. Before then they used uncapped AP, and poor quality AP rounds at that. The manual states 45mm in 1941 was especially bad.
  15. Why shouldn't it? The game has absurd amount of abstractions, why wouldn't a stray bullet hitting something vital not take it out? Chances are so absolutely slim but could be there, especially with the 7/1. Just because something has a snowballs chance in hell of happening doesn't mean it shouldn't IMHO. </font>
  16. That is crazy luck. I worried about something similiar happening to my ST. Ground conditions weren't very ideal (damp). When you actually get a chance to purchase a ST, it's pretty much your entire force no matter what.

  18. usually only happens on sloped conditions. i think about it as if you can see something but no way hit it. like the top of infantry helmets near a crest, etc
  19. Old news I know, but I get excited over little things. It was also one of the bloodiest battles I've ever fought in a QB. Me and a friend did a QB and finally, after years of playing, the date / year matched up (we play random dates) with variable rarity to allow me to get a SturmTiger. I ended up getting a company of men, 81mm spotter along with it, and a scout car. My friend had a fairly casual force. 76mm Shermans and one T34, and quite a bit of infantry. The map was long length wise and I was much further away from the flags than him. However all the flags are very exposed, this was perfect for my SturmTiger. I had the elevation and LOS to easily destroy him. I had to cross a huge open farm area and climb uphill to even get near the flags though, so I was just as exposed. I saw movement near the church, so I shot a round at it. It missed, but my second shot was incredibly solid. The reload times of the ST didn't bother me much, but did make picking a target crucial. After I evaporated the flags with suspected enemy movement I moved out. I got a small flag, but the church flag advance was halted by artillery fire. He kept putting guys on the church to defend and I kept nuking him, but it was all he could do to hold that flag. The end result was a draw, and my ST got 115 infantry kills.
  20. I personally don't think Multi-Multi play will encourage people who don't dig the games premise to dig it more. However I do believe multi-multi play to be a great idea. It's one thing I love about Tac Ops and wish was in Combat Mission.
