Battlefront Says It's Still Alive
securityguard replied to KG_Jag's topic in Combat Mission Campaigns
I'd love to do some beta testing bring it on -
So in fall then...??? My guess is that they're going to discuss a facet of the game. Maybe deployment zones or something trivial. The other guess would be that they're moving shop to another publisher, but that seems unlikely. I'm only allowed one guess so I'll pick my first. Anything else would be really surprising.

I really hate being a downer but that little blurb isn't too enticing. It almost makes it seem like they're surprised to get e-mails about it or something. Unless they post a virtual butt-load of information that looks promising, and not just a new UI update or new graphics, who really cares? I seem to post here every 5 to 6 months or so because of the tiny, gleaming hope in my eye that wishes this great little game to be released. I've been waiting for literal years, and only made worse by how extremely lack luster CM:SF was upon release and arguably even today. It is a strange feeling to not look at a games development for an entire year, only to come back to absolutely nothing new. That just means it's totally dead.

This is seriously the most confusing post I have ever read. Try uninstalling and reinstalling completely dude.

still waiting for them to fix tcp/ip having to play real time with sync issues and everything else going haywire makes this game unplayable

New Stryker Faring Poorly in Field

if they dont want the tank i'll take it -
If it is a design decision it is an incredibly bad one. I haven't played CMSF since release because I have no way of playing it online.

Multiplayer still unplayable
securityguard replied to Nemesis Lead's topic in Combat Mission Shock Force 1
Shock force honestly was a shock (ba-zing) to the system. No matter how many excuses one could make to defend the title, it is still virtually unplayable where it counts the most: multiplayer. I haven't played SF since the first week it was out because I had completed everything there was to do, and TCP/IP wouldn't work. In contrast, I've played a game of CM at least four times a month for several years. Even when TCP/IP worked the real time only made it completely impossible to play. -
Is CMSF Fundamentally flawed beyond patching???
securityguard replied to Charlie901's topic in Combat Mission Shock Force 1
I always felt this game was one big experiment and the next major engine update will fix a lot of nuisances. No amount of patches could fix some of the more fundamental things, like Quick Battles and what not. I imagine it like CMBO to CMBB, except now it's more like CMBO Alpha to CMBO. -
Lt Bull, I agree. I would personally pay whatever price they originally had for MP only. From the beginning I wondered how they could possibly build a solid AI for such a complicated endeavor, both strategically and tactically. It seems utterly impossible given the original CM AI and the amount of variables present. Admittedly, the over world AI and the battlefield AI are completely separate, but that still makes things even more complex by allowing the 'hive mind' AI go about it's usual business when it needs to approach objectives uniquely. Upon it's announcement I think everyone was excited. I wanted CM:SF and CMC both very badly, however the initial CM:SF release was extremely rough and CMC had the curtains drawn far too early. It's just a little frustrating to see such a good idea get bogged down.

I am a little surprised that this forum even exists anymore. Gameplay mechanics haven't even been discussed since the initial revealing.

Gamespots crappy 4.5 review..
securityguard replied to Dredloc's topic in Combat Mission Shock Force 1
wow, a gamespot review i actually agree with! -
another: if a squad is completely obliterated, the squad icon will still remain

it's great if you want to play a game over a weeks time. it's terrible if you have 3 hours to kill on a weekend and just want a game right then and there.

Post your scenarios here

Love that air control tower. Very nice map. -
Post your scenarios here
securityguard replied to securityguard's topic in Combat Mission Shock Force 1
thanks, i figured it might be a little easy although the first time I played it i lost a bmp to a mine and a conscript fighter hit another with an ATGM, so that made it slightly rougher ride. rebels automatically win if they inflict 50% casualties. awesome screenshot, by the way! -
The tall walls are pretty much absolutely broken at the moment. They don't block LOS or LOF at all. I made a mission that pretty much revolved around the use of the walls, but anything that is already spotted will get annihilated no matter how well covered they are.

Kinda hoping for a new "scenario" forum, considering the lack of packaged scenarios and the totally awesome scenario editor. Hopefully this thread will suffice for now. Here's mine: Beyond the Euphrates Combatants holed up in a river basin. This mission will either be too easy or too hard - I had to totally pull my hair out at how absolutely strict the TO&E is in the scenario editor so the deployment of Blue might seem weird. Still might be a nice fight. Play as BLUFOR (attackers, Syrian) only.

Another question: How do you get the AI to face a direction after deployment? I got the AI to setup fine using the AI tools, but they all face the complete opposite direction of the enemy deployment. This pretty much ruins the ATGM's because they take forever to deploy and the AI rarely redeploys.

Discussion - Borg dead or at least Wounded?
securityguard replied to Battlefront.com's topic in Combat Mission Shock Force 1
Is it possible for units to friendly fire units? I've noticed that a unit, even a conscript fanatical combatant with no radio, can identify a "?" as friendly or enemy. Although I haven't had many instances where FF could happen, anyways, I'm assuming its in there. -
firefight is an ok game but it gets old pretty fast. I use to be enamored with for a brief period. If anything, it is better than close combat
