  1. I am about halfway thru the second game, and it has been a grinder all the way. In the first game I captured the Santa Maria di Constantinopoli Church, the Villa d'Allesandro and a good part of the SW corner, but at a heavy cost. I also lost as many tanks in that first game as the Canadians did in the entire 6 day battle, although I may get 2 back once they are repaired. For some reason I started the second game at nearly the same setup zone as the first, this despite an advance of almost 200 meters. Now the battle rages behind the Santa Maria di Constantinopoli Church, while I have now run into another ambush in the SW corner, this time a little deeper into the city. I also have 2 platoons ready to advance across the Via Constantinopoli, but am waiting to bring up some support. Thats it for now. As soon as game 2 ends I will post another DAR. Excellent Op, Mike. I recommend it to anyone who is looking for a good urban slog.
  2. Specifically 'The high cost of real estate'. I have the other 4, but need that one. Please send it to the address in my profile. Many thanks
  3. He is also the driver to a Universal carrier in one of the scenarios I am designing. However, he won't be for very long.
  4. Don't know the character, but its Michael Cain in a 'Bridge too far'. The scene is the opening battle between the Irish Guards armored column and the German's Kampfgruppe Walter. He is requesting in purple smoke to call in an airstrike.
  5. For what its worth, the movie 'The Pianist' has a short clip of a guy firing a Panzerfaust from the balcony of a multi-story building in the Warsaw Ghetto. IIRC, there wasn't much in the way of a backblast. Certainly rearranged the furniture in the building across the street, though.
  6. Winecape, I have 'We can't wait' and 'Sounds in the night', although they may lack their briefings (I'll check when I get home tonight). I'll ask Wild Bill if its ok to submit them to the depot. In the meantime I can e-mail them to anyone who is interested.
  7. Depends on if your company action is an isolated skirmish, or part of a much larger attack. If the latter, the Bn CO would most likely have a reserve on hand ready to shift to hotspots, or to exploit a breakthrough.
  8. Yes No Once a mine tile is detected you move the Pioneer unit next to it and leave them alone. After a turn or two they will toss a demo charge at the tile and it will be neutralized. The only exception to this is with daisy chain mines. These are deployed above ground and are easily spotted, and your Pioneer does not need a demo charge in order to clear it. Wire cannot be removed, nor can roadblocks. There is no difference between a hiding squad and one that is not when riding in a HT or other vehicle.
  9. I have most of the ROW spreadsheets at home, and can calcualte the averages for you. Going on memory, although there were a few games that were unbalanced score wise, most of the scenarios ended up being balanced in the 45/55 range. This is not because the scenarios were designed that way, they weren't. Its because of the quality of the players. Few allowed themselves to be defeated, even when they were faced with overwhelming odds. I also have about 90% of the scenarios for the first 3 ROW tournaments, so if you are interested in something let me know. My address is in my profile.
  10. I'm confident that in your search for trustworthy opponents you will encounter quite a few less than honorable ones. Would you prefer a secure system in place that prevents these idiots from cheating, and thus ruining your enjoyment of the game, or would you prefer to simply trust the next guy you send a file to?
  11. Plot your moves, then view the movie, watch your attack fall apart, reload turn, replot moves, watch movie, watch your attack break through the defense. See a problem?
  12. Assuming all other variables (HQ bonus, command range, fitness levels, etc) are equal, the green rangers will function just like a green rifle squad. The only real difference would be the FP ratings given the two different TO&E.
  13. As long as there is enough lift capability the AI will automatically have the troops loaded up when they arrive. What problems are you having?
  14. Kingfish hits the defrost button St. Lambert-sur-Dives
  15. A quick word on patches... For obvious reasons we want everyone on the same patch during this tournament, so if Feb 15th rolls around and the patch is not released we will hold off until it is. Trust me, it is far easier to upgrade 5 scenarios than upgrade 36 games in progress. I have no idea of when it will be released, but I suspect it is soon. We are still keeping with our Feb 1st signup date.
  16. I'm going to guess they would have tried their best Switzerland impersonation.
  17. I'm thinking of Wreck here and I'm also thinking... thank god for everyone else participating in the tourney! Regards Jim R. </font>
  18. Best ROW I memory - watching Sgt Dearborn kill a StuH42, 234/4 and a 251/1 in the span of 11 seconds in 'Resolve at Ranville'. The last kill was a shot between 2 houses as the 251/1 sped past. Worst ROW I memory - 'Sounds in the night' - 'nuff said.
  19. Its far easier to post once than send out 100+ e-mails. BTW, don't count yourself out just yet. For one, not all of the vets will respond (I know of 4 that automatically excluded). Secondly, all those who didn't make the first cut will go into a reserve pool, which we will draw from in order to replace dropouts, AWOL, etc. Those reserve players automatically inherit the previous player's score, so there is a possibility that a replacement can go to the finals, and win the wine.
  20. “The guns are rumbling...the war is on” Wild Bill Wilder “The default value in these scenarios is military nightmare” John Kettler “Americans swarm towards me through the smoke” Svennson “My first shot missed, but I was not worried. Then the second missed, and the enemy noticed me... but his return missed. Then my third shot missed. But his second did, too. Then my fourth shot missed. And this time, his shot did not miss” Leonard Dickens “To people who want to play these when they are released please do so with care, in a darkened room and with a friend close at hand” Holien “I am currently embroiled in "Sounds in the Night" with Greg and let me just say there is a special place in the 7th circle of hell for whoever designed this one. I suggest it be destroyed after the Tourney in order to prevent it from escaping and destroying society as we know it. Personally, I am going to need therapy after this game” The Capt Gentlemen! The time has arrived! I am pleased to announce that the fourth Rumblings of War tournament will officially kick off on February 15th, with signups beginning on Feb 1st. A new game, all new scenarios, some new faces, and a few new rules. But before I start explaining the new changes I better back up a bit and explain what the Rumblings of War (a.k.a ROW) tournament is all about. There are some new members to this board, and most are wondering "WTF is he talking about?" Therefore, I recommend you go to the Boots and Tracks web site and click on the ROW tab. The official tourney manual will explain all you need to know about the Rumblings of War tournament. I would strongly recommend you bookmark the site, not only to keep tabs on the latest ROW news, but also because ROW is only a small part of what Boots and Tracks has to offer. BTW, most of the tourney manual was written by Treeburst 155, the original tourney master for the Rumblings of War tournament. Wyatt and I just edited a few lines to reflect the new changes in ROW. In fact, 90% of the rules and organizations that we use in ROW are the results of his hard work. Thanks, Mike. Ok, now that we have a better understanding of what is ROW I'll take this opportunity to explain the new changes, and introduce the FNGs First off, AARs are mandatory! Yes sir, everybody contributes. Now, why do I need to make them mandatory? Well, because I’ve noticed a sharp decline in the number submitted since I’ve began collecting them. With ROW I I received at least 3 from each player. By ROW III I was lucky to get 3 from each section. Not good. Please re-read the AAR section of the tourney manual to better understand how AARs benefit both you as a player, the scenario designers and the CM community as a whole. Secondly, the Nabla scoring system has been modified from what was originally used in ROW I & II. The original DOS based code is no longer available, so we have gone to a simpler version that can be run on MS-Excel. This newer version was used successfully to calculate the scores for the ROW III finals, and will be the scoring system we will use from here on in. Thirdly, I’ve brought in some reinforcements. Holien and Spanish Bombs, both long time ROW vets, will now assist me with the day-to-day tasks of keeping you all in line. This will be a very informal arrangement, with each of us helping the other out, so feel free to contact any of us in case you have questions or need assistance. OK, that’s it for now. Remember, sign ups begin on Feb 1st, so don’t bother clogging up this thread with ‘pick me, pick me’ posts. It ain’t gonna work. We’re looking at having a signup page added to the Boots and Tracks web site. I’ll keep you all posted on the progress of that. I’ll also add new information to this thread once I receive them. 21. Guys, Just wanted to pop in for a minute and let you all know that I haven't been ignoring you, just been busy as hell. As wwb said, there are a lot of things going on behind the scenes right now, and we want to get them squared away before we make the official announcement. The shell is loaded, the breech is closed, and the coordinates are locked in. All that is left is for me to pull the lanyard. Soon...real soon.
  22. I can't speak for the other scenarios on the CD, but both of my scenarios were designed for H2H play. In fact, 'Raff to the rescue!' can not be played against the A.I. at all.
  23. Sunday morning bump complete with... BOOM!!! CRASH!!! HELP ME I'M HIT!!! BANG! BANG! BANG! HOOYAH!!! QUIET DOWN LETS GET SOME NOISE DISCIPLINE HERE!!! ...cheap theatrics
