1. I would answer your question this way: It is true that the players can see more and control more than would be in real life, but this is still a game and there has to be a certain amount of player envolvement to keep ones interest. I do not like the games that have been published where you simply push a button and then sit back and watch a scenario play itself. I have to have more to do than watch to keep my interest. As you may know, CM is the result of many years attempt to come up with a computerized version of Avalon Hill's Squad Leader and I think the results have payed off. Squad Leader is a game that simulates tactical ground combat in WWII better than any other commercial wargame. It envolves the players in every action of the game and player skill is the one determining factor for success. CM is the same. Victory or defeat is in the hands of each player and the more skilled player will win more often than lose. Therefore to play this game to the best of your ability you must be able to see and control your forces and the battlefield. You do have the option to play this game from camera view 1 and many play it that way for a change of pace but I do not think the game is as interesting when played this way. CM is a game, not real life. ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.

Juardis, A friend of mine turned me on to a tactic that seems to work with armor. What you do is to give fast move and hunt commands alternately and zigzag your path. If ground conditions don't allow fast movement for fear of bogging don't use this tactic except on roads. ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
 3. Congratulations to all of the veterans out there. My father was a veteran of WWII and I remember his stories from the war with fondness. It's hard to believe but in not too many years the veterans from WWII will all be gone and that war will sink into the past like WWI, the Spanish-American War and the Civil War. God bless the men and women who have served this country in her Armed Forces. ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
 4. A tactic that I use, though not always successfully, is to run and zig zag. ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
 5. We in Sutter Co. in Northern California use a symple paper ballot with candidates and referendum measures on one side and fill in squares on the other side. Very basic and easy. We are a very rural part of California, we ar not all in LA land. We are also very conservative. ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
 6.
quote:
Originally posted by PershingII: I am an enthusiastic player of CM and enthusiast for the history about second World war.I had just finished to buy a book about day D (Sperheading D-Day), my English is not very flowing and i have one question in brief words ¿ can you tell me how the Bangalore torpedo work? Thanks

I'm not an explosives expert but from what I've read, the bangalor torpedoe was a length of pipe broken down into sections and assembled before being used which hade a fuse at one end. It was used to clear wire obstructions by combat engineers or commandoes. Others probably can tell you more about it. ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
 7. The CMHQ Scenario Depot has always been slow in loading so give it some time. Better yet, when the screen comes up, open it in a new window and bookmark it. ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
 8. Having never played TCP/IP, I was wondering how you pause play and restart a game so that you don't have to finish a game in one sitting? I know this sounds like a stupid question, but I'm relatively new to internet play. ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
 9. How stable is CM in an overclocked computer? I've heard that the game does'nt like overclocking. I have an AMD 450 and a PIII 850 would be plenty fast for me. ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
 10. This is a subject I know nothing about but I am glad you educated me. It is too bad that there were not more like him, so much missery could have been avoided. Points out the importance of people being true to their convictions and participating in the democratic process. May god bless his soul. ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
 11. I have tried this cautious approach in meeting engagements before and have always come up short. Meeting engagements seem to have pretty even odds, in quick battles anyway, and trying to attack a position with even odds is rough, especially if you are the Allied player against an Axis player with Panthers or Tigers. I still have to go with the "old haul tail and grab as much as you can" tactic. ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
 12. Thank you for the warning. I was one who was watching for this game to come out and posted a couple of messages on reviews and release dates. I've been looking for it at the local software dealer but have'nt seen it on the shelf yet. This is one game I will pass on if it's as bad as you say. ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
 13. Any chance I can get a response without the yuks ?? Thx
 14. You have my sympathy. So far I've avoided viruses with God's help. ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.

[This message has been edited by Mord (edited 10-23-2000).]

If you have a lot of vehicles or units lined up on a road and you want them to follow the lead vehicle or unit, you would issue a follow command and all the other units would follow the leader. That's why it is called a "follow command". Not being smart. It's for the lazy player. ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
 16.
quote:
Originally posted by Aussie_Shooter22: Hi, i was directed to this site by Mr. Faller my World Geo Teacher and Moderator of the Wargaming society at my school. I am definatly thinking about getting this game, and will be frequenting these boards

If you have'nt already, please download the demo and play the game before ordering the CD. This may save you some grief if you find that your computer can't handle the game well. This is the greatest wargame in the world and is worth it. 17. You'll probably have to delete the bmp files for the terrain that have the grid lines and reinstall from your back-up or the bmp files on your CD. ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
 18.
quote:
Originally posted by tar: If you want to have vehicles cross a ford-like tile you will currently have to fake it. You could try replacing the ford tile with rough terrain. That should get you a vehicle passable tile that reduces mobility, although it will also give unwarranted cover...

I don't believe vehicles can cross rough terrain either. ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.

 21. I also have an advanced case of prostate cancer. It was found to be a 9 on a scale of 1-10 for less to worst type. It was found to have spread to my bones but there are ways of dealing with this disease and surviving so don't give up hope. ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
 22. Saving Private Ryan is the best war film made. However, anybody remember "Porkchop Hill" based on S. L. A. Marshalls book of the Korean War? One of the most realistic battle scenes I've seen before SPR. ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
