  1. If you can find a copy, look up "The Russo-German War 1941-45" by Albert Seaton. It may answer some of your questions. In 1941 the Germans had the worlds best tactical air force in the world, the best armored force in the world and the best trained infantry in the world. They lacked the air power in 1944 and though their armor and infantry was some of the best in the world, still, there was'nt enough of it. The Stuka was a very good ground attack aircraft, but it was slow and needed to be protected from enemy fighters. In 1941 the Luftwaffe had complete control of the air over the battlefield so the Stukas were effective. In the Battle of Britain the Luftwaffe did not have complete air control over the battlefield and therefore the Stuka had to be withdrawn from the fight. By 1944 the Allies on both fronts had fighter domination so the Stuka was by that time obsolete. I think the Germans tried to use the same tactics in 1943 that they used in 1941, the problem was that the Russians had learned how to counter those tactics and developed some new ones of their own. The German army was forced by circumstances to go over to the defense and so offensive tactics were given a back seat. You also had the problem of increased battlefield attrition and therefore a decrease in efficiency. In other words, the Germans were being ground down and bled to death by the Russian Front. Though you see better German tanks in 1944, such as the Mk IV 75s, the Panther and the Tiger, there was'nt enough of them and the allies just had more of everthing else. As Napoleon said, "God is on the side of the big battalions". ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
  2. Rommel, you magnificent son-of-a-bitch, I read your book! ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
  3. You might try playing around with the time of play setting. If you have large forces set to play for 30 minutes the program probably gives you a thin map so you are not spending too much time moving across the map into contact. Try several settings with the same force and see what happens. ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
  4. First Clash at Cambes. It's a meeting engagement with some good action for both PBEM and vs. the computer. ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
  5. ASL Beyond Valor is the best Eastern Front wargame. It's one of the old fashion board games but still the best one out there. ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
  6. With all the questions you are asking about the game and the time you are spending on this forum it's clear to me you really want to order it. Believe me, you'll never be sorry. ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
  7. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by Old Crow: You guys should see those things shoot in person. In '90 the ship I was on participated in the largest assembly of U.S. naval units since WWII. In company were the USS New Jersey and USS Missouri. We assembled near Guam and during the exercise an old freighter was towed out for target practice for the BB's. My ship was fortunate to have a front row seat right behind the MISSOURI and the NEW JERSEY was in front of her. They both opened up with their 16" guns at the same time. Needless to say that freighter didn't last long. Most impressive! <HR></BLOCKQUOTE> What you saw was a piece of history in action. I doubt that there will ever be a salvo of 16" guns again. ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
  8. It will be very hard for someone to top "Tora Tora Tora" as a movie depiction of the Pearl Harbor attack. It's like people trying to do a remake of "Gone With the Wind" or Casablanca", some films need to be left alone. ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
  9. I did a test scenario once where I set up 4 German artillery spotters with heavy rockets, some 105, 75 and 81mm mortars against a company of American infantry who were conducting an attack to take the victory flags in the center of the map. All I did as the German player was to target the victory flags with artillery as soon as the Americans reached them. After 6 turns the Germans won a clear victory. With 14" naval artillery you don't have to have direct hits. Anything within 50m's will do the trick. ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
  10. I'm on the RD Ladder and have'nt had this problem yet. I think it is the way they structure the ladder, you must have started and finished 3 games before your name goes on the ladder. This insures that people on the ladder are dedicated players who play for the love of the game. Some people are so into "winning" that they can't stand to lose a game. I play because I love the game, winning is just frosting on the cake for me. ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
  11. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by Big Time Software: CM4 is still a ways away, but it is something we plan on doing. It will cover all the major battles from 1939 until 1940. This means, Poland, Scandinavia, Low Countries, and France. Steve<HR></BLOCKQUOTE> Thanks for the responce. I agree, Poland has to be seen as part of the blitzkrieg phase of the war. I believe that by 1941 the blitzkrieg was over. Now would begin the hard grind of Barbarossa and the subsequent slow advances of both nations. Gone would be the quick advances against a defeated and demoralized foe. ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
  12. It sounds to me like B-17 is another piece of Hasbro crap and that this company should not be supported by people buying their products. ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
  13. If you like and play wargames this one is a must. It is the best wargame on the market today. Download the demo and play it. If your computer can handle it, the full game will work for you. Even if all you do is play the demo, it's better than most other wargames on the market. ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
  14. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by Maximus: the 1940 Norway campaign, or will this be in CM2?<HR></BLOCKQUOTE> My guess is that it would be included with the blitzkrieg of 1940, France, Belgium and Holland. My question is when does the Polish campaign of 1939 fit in, with the Russian invasion or the blitzkrieg? ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
  15. When I installed the new version I deleted the old exe. in both the game folder and on my desktop. When I went into the game folder and looked for the new exe. there was'nt any. I looked in the beta patch file inside the CMBO game folder. So I restored my old exe. from the trash bin, thankfully I did'nt delete them from the trash bin, and opened the game using the old exe. and it worked. Apparently the new version does'nt creat a new exe., you use the old one. ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
  16. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by Splinty: What I found interesting was the amazingly inexperienced replacments the tankers were getting. Not only were they not veterans, they weren't even trained tankers! <HR></BLOCKQUOTE> This was generally the experience of ALL U.S. Army replacements. Some were killed before the rest of the unit knew their names. Many had no infantry training whatsoever and those that survived without serious injury where either very lucky or good at survival, or in good with the Lord. ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.

  21. For anyone interested you can follow the voyage of the LST 325 from Gibralter back to Mobile Ala. U.S.A. at www.palosverdes.com/lst887/lst325.html These are 29 American war veterans who are sailing an aged WWII LST across the Atlantic. Their average age is 72. The web site gives you the day by day account of the voyage. ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
  22. I saw it about 25 years ago when it first came out. After seeing "Tora Tora Tora", which it was to be the mate for, I was disappointed. A rather ordinary war film in my opinion. ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
  23. Yes they were there. Kind of scary though. ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
  24. I was curious to know if doing the Char bis tank with two main weapons is going to be a problem in coding for the upcoming games? I believe the Russians had several tanks with two main guns and there will be the American/British Grant/Lee tanks to model. ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
  25. Sometimes if you have the flags on this will happen when the building is close to the flag. Just turn off the flags. I also use the camera position 5 to adjust placement. ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
