1. Did'nt mean to set everybody off, I was just curious about what happened to the project and I could'nt find anything out online so I asked the best source of information on the web, which is this message board. I agree with you that CM and BTS is the best and I would'nt trade CM for Hasbro's junk for anything. It would be interesting to see what they did though. Thanks for the feedback. ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
2. Has anybody heard anything about Hasro's Squad Leader? Is it dead or in a coma? ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
3. I've had infantry do that with area fire, the one with the dark yellow line. To get them to stop I've had too command "stop targeting". Try this a see if it works. ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
4. I too have loaded the biggest size game on my little AMD 6K 450 just to see how much it can handle and I see the same extreme slow down, so I know now that I am not alone. I'm not as experienced at playing computer games as you are, this is my first computer and I've only had it for one year, but I am amazed at what I see happening in this game, it never fails to surprise me. I wish BTS good fortune in their future endeavors and hope CM2 is as good and better than CMBO. ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
5. You can get specific weather conditions in the first game when playing operations, just exit the game until the conditions you want come up. I don't know if the first game's conditions affect the subsequent game's conditions. ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.

7. In the Pacific it was common for the Army and Marines to use the M5 Stuart as a bunker buster in the island campaigns. It sported a 37mm AT gun. I don't know if it was the same as the Greyhound but it was very useful in killing Japanese pillboxes and dug in machineguns. Does'nt surprise me that the Greyhound would be useful in this role. ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
8. I remember comic books that depicted the battle of Leyte Gulf and the submarine warfare in the Pacific. Can't remember who published them. They came out in the early 1960s. ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
9. Another good one is "The Clay Pigeons of St. Lo" by Glover S. Johns, Jr. written in 1958. ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
10. I have the book. One of the best reads on the history of armored warfare. ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
11.
quote:
Originally posted by McAuliffe: Guess we're going a little bit off-topic here, so I'll leave it with following picture : Those are'nt mountains, those are hills. I'm from California and those "mountains" we would call slight elevations. Just kidding. I see your point, but still there are relatively flat areas in the midst of these hills.

------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
12. It's my opinion that had there been Marines at Omaha beach, there would have been just so many more dead Marines at Omaha. That place was a killing zone like Betio in the Pacific and the Marines could have made little difference. Don't get me wrong. I have the highest respect and admiration for the Marine Corp, but Omaha Beach was so bad that nothing could have helped. ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
13.
quote:
Originally posted by McAuliffe: At first sight, thought that the thread was about someone wanting to match his skills with a female PBEM partner . Anyway, think meters is just more relevant if you're into doing research in order to create your own historical scenaros. Imagine the work converting elevations of a european map into feet or comparing technical specifications of german armor with the allied ones...I am glad it's in metric Having said that, I must express my dissapointment about poor scenario design in general. I see buffs discussing here about whether or not leaf-design camouflage was used on a tank or not, while nobody is commenting on the terrible errors in map design. I see scenarios where the Rhine looks like a creek, the hamlet of Noville as a big town, the Ardennes as flat as a pool table and the rolling hills of western Europe are depicted as "shrubveld". CM has given us a wonderfull 3D engine, in order to let the landscapes of hexagonial boards come alive and it seems all scenario designers stick to ASL-playboard data. Would appreciate if those designers had a look at topo-maps an aerial pictures, before they convert those scenario's. It would make it all together more realistic. Knowing its easier to pull the trigger, then to play the guitar...I did make myself some conversions..you'll find some of them on my homepage.

Is the Ardennes region mountainous? My impression from my reading about the battles there is that the whole Ardennes region is basically a platteau that is slightly raised above the surrounding regions and is cut through by some rather deep river valleys, such as the Our River. The area is somewhat tipped towards the west from the Eifel area. Small areas depicted in scenarios could, therefore, be rather flat. Am I mistaken? Some of you that live near there or have visited there, could you let me know if I'm correct? ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
14. Is this a late war mod? My impression from putting together about 100 Tamaya tank models in the last 20 years was that the predominate color scheme for German armored equiptment was a base color of desert tan with green and earth browns for camo patterns. Is this correct? The Jagdpanther looks great, by the way. ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
15. Don't discount the AI on attack. I'm creating an operation based on the battle at Stoumont (yes another one) and in playtesting the scenario, I allowed the AI to play the attacker with fog-of-war on full. The AI is very aggressive. I don't know why it's not in the Cambes scenario, but don't count it out yet. ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
16. I don't know how the rest of you feel, but I think certain designated HQs should be able to spot for arty. I realize that arty. batteries had to have FOs but what about battalion and regimantal arty units? Could'nt the company COs call in fire missions from these? If I'm wrong about this please let me know. ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
17. Thanks for the scenarios. ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
18. Each to his own. He's missing a great experience. If you don't get nervous playing CM you must have nerves of steel. ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
19. Thanks for the info on the setup. Sorry for not warning of spoiler, did'nt think of it. Hope I did'nt ruin someones play. ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
20. I made up a scenario last night just for fun and spent an hour trying to figure out how to make the bridges match up with the oncoming road so this little alteration was up my ally. I assume that you used the HASL KG Pieper for some of your reference. Why did you leave off the north and west edge of the map? A lot of terrain and I assume there was no action in those areas worth depicting? Also, I was wondering why so few half tracks for the Panzer Grenadiers? Were they not not mounted during the advance? Not carping on you but curious. Whenever I played the HASL game I mounted the PGs on SPW 251s. ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
21. I'll take a copy. Send to waynestowers@prodigy.net Just got Franko's "Stoumont" operation so it will be fun to play both of these. ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
22.
quote:
Originally posted by Franko: I have submitted it to CombatHQ, but it has not been posted yet (I just did it today, as a result of "overwhelming demand".

Franko, I put your map into the scenario editor and found a little problem, very little. At the railroad bridge near the western end of the map, the railroad tracks appear to sluff off into the stream before meeting the bridge. This happens when the elevation differences are too extreme between the tracks and the stream. I moved the stream over one square and redid the elevations near the track. Thought you might want to correct this yourself before submitting the operation. It's not a big thing but I thought I'd let you know about it. ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
23.
quote:
Originally posted by TP_Bomber: Try Reverse. It worked for me but might not always.

This worked for me in soft ground and wet conditions. ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
24. Send me one at waynestowers@prodigy.net. Why don't you post it at Col. Klotz's site for ASL conversions to CM and CMHQ's scenario depot? ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
25. This is a bit off topic but since it relates to bunker busting, here goes. I was playing a certain scenario against the AI that required my guys to take out a MG bunker. Problem was, I had no engineers near the bunker and it had to go fast. I decide to send standard para infantry to the rear of the bunker and try to enter through the back door. It worked. My infantry went through the back door, I heard firing, grunts, yells and then see my guys running out the back door like the place was on fire. I decide to try it again and send another squad through the back door, only this time I give them the target order against the bunker. After some more firing, grunts and groans out come my squad with the machinegun crew surrendered. I did'nt know this could be done until I experimented. Amazing what you can find out about this game if you get a little innovative. ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
