1. Sounds like they had a lot more to say about CM then "Squad Leader". Glad to see they like the game. ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
 2. I had a similar event take place in one of my own designed operations. A Panther was moving along a street in close proximity to American infantry in a house when this tank suddenly stops and the crew abandons it. There was a plinking sound and then the info bar shows the red abandon sign. I replayed the movie a number of times but could not identify the source of the kill or its weapon type. There was no explosion, only that "plink". I thought it might be a rifle grenade but could not see the grenade being fired. Very odd. My best guess is that the drive train failed on the Panther and the "plink" was that sound. The crew being so close to the enemy decided to abandon the tank before they were taken out by an unseen enemy. ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
 3.
quote:
Originally posted by Maximus: OK, compare this "Christie" design to the Pershing. They look about the same, don't they. The Sherman came from a different design obviously.

Yes, but we could have been further along in tank design had we followed the Christie model and perhaps had something like the Pershing in 42 or 43. Think how this would have changed the fighting conditions in France in 1944. Just one more might have beens. ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
 4. It's easy to throw a track in damp conditions or on a slope. ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
 5. It was not my intention to be negative, it's only that this subject has been discussed before and rejected by BTS, who are calling the shots on game developement, and there is a thread available for anyone who wants to do a search. ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
 6. This idea has already been suggested and rejected by BTS. Do a search on the subject. ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
 7. I've played Grafewohr as German against the AI and found it to be a tough scenario. I'll be interested to see how your game plays out. ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
 8. Just think. If America had taken the Christie design and used it as seed for future American tank designs we might have had a tank like the T-34 in Europe instead of the Sherman. ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
 9. I remember hearing a WWII vet telling how the Sherman tank gunners would use the co-axial machine gun with the tank's main gun sight as a long range sniping weapon. Their favorite tactic was to shoot out the engines on enemy trucks in convoy and then rake the entire convoy with machine gun fire. ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
 10. I like to hear the Germans say," Achtung, panzers!" or the British say" Blimey, they're tanks, run for it". ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
 11. Were TDs heavily used in the Korean War? ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
 12. USERNAME, I did'nt mean to say that I approve of cheating in any area. I only meant that cheating to gain power or wealth is understandable, though not acceptable. Why cheat in a game where most of the fun is in the experience of playing and learning? ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
 13. ASL2CM's address is as follows: http://w1.312.telia.com/~u31213280/index.htm Hope this is right. ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight. [This message has been edited by Wayne (edited 11-12-2000).]
 14.
quote:
Originally posted by Randy Mauldin: I guess it just depends on your luck. I've only seen them in one game I've played and they didnt do any damage. BTW how do you know if a plane is shot down if all you see is the shadow?

You see it in the end game report. You know, the one where they play taps and tell you who won. ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
 15. Apparently the URL for Col Klotz's ASL2CM site is not working or is not the correct address so check out the links at CMHQ to find his site. It's worth the effort. ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
 16. Why would anyone go to all this trouble to cheat on an e-mail game? What do you gain by cheating? All you do is to prove that you are not good enough to win fairly. Why would anyone want to prove that they're not a good player? I can understand cheating in business or politics to gain a material advantage, but in a game where no one is winning money or power? Get a life, man! ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
 17.
quote:
Originally posted by Johnno: Off topic, sorry, but thanks Wayne I was looking for this Quote: Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight. - Private Jackson (The Snipers Prayer from Saving Private Ryan.) Visit my website: Dogs of War http://persweb.direct.ca/johnnocm

Comes from PSALM 144:1. He also quoted verse 2 which says, "My goodness and my fortress; my high tower, and my deliverer". A very good book. ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
 18. I've played 8 pbem games and have won 1. I still enjoy a well played game even if I lose. ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
 19.
quote:
Originally posted by Tiger: you're just drunk Wayne!! Try to have a squad in position to put some fire on the advancing troops, if you have a machinegun or vehicle even better (I will usually position at least a single squad to cover any areas of open ground that warrent it just for this purpose). The advancing troops will usually fall to the ground, giving your mortar fire the time needed to start raining down on them, obliterating the advance over open ground. Don't forget to correct mortar fire after it's had its effect, keeping it on the retreating remnants. While the mortar fire is keeping the advance down, move nearby units in to plug the gap. If there is no gap, just sit back and enjoy the carnage. -johnS

Not drunk, can't drink because of a heart condition, just trying to get the heck under cover. I use suppression fire as often as I can but I find that when I'm advancing I don't always see an enemy to fire at and I don't like using up precious ammo on unseen enemy units. I'm still learning like the rest of you guys but these tactics seem to be good ones under the right conditions. ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
 20. I've had one of my FBs shot down as an Allied player in one of the game's scenarios. I've had one shoot up the Axis opponent though it missed hitting anything important. I've never shot one dowm myself though I'm looking forward to this. ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
 21.
quote:
Originally posted by joeski: Does moving zig-zag with your armor really work? Using alternate fast/hunt commands? Thanks for the replies.

I used against the AI and my friend used it against me, and it worked both times. I may try it in 3 or 4 more games and if I find that doesn't work as well, then I will discard this tactic, but it makes good sense to me so I'll keep using it as long as it works. Sometime a tactic that works in a couple of games may just be a fluke, but trial and error is the one good way to find this out. ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
 22.
quote:
Originally posted by crumply: are you more likely to bog down with a fast move command than with a move command? are you sure?

Yes, if ground conditions are damp or wet. This tactic is best in dry conditions when tanks can cross open ground. In wet or damp conditions you can't just go charging across the fields, your tanks can bog. ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
 23. Tanks and other armor are in this game to support infantry as it was in the actual war. I prefer to play well designed scenarios over QBs that emphasize tanks. If you want some good infantry heavy scenarios go over to Col. Klotze's sight at http://w1.312telia.com. ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
 24. Bev, you'll never regret buying the full game. It's worth every pennie, or what ever you use in Australia. ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
