  1. Do any of you see a strange resemblance between the Cromwells and the "Tigers" in Saving Private Ryan? ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
  2. My reading of history concerning Normandy leads me to believe that the Canadian divisions and independent brigades were as good and sometimes better than the British and American units. The problem they had was that they were under British control and British tactics were formed in the North African Desert which did'nt work to well in the Norman countryside. Alot more trees and such rubbish in France. As a Canadian I think you should be proud of the fighting units in WWII. ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
  3. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by GaryC: Is it possible to change the color of the units bases? I have a hard time to see the British (that's right I am color blind!)<HR></BLOCKQUOTE> Have you tried changing unit size by using the Shift-C function? This makes the units increase in size. I'm not color-blind but the British bases are hard for me to see also. ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
  4. This subject has been discussed many times before. BTS is still working on network play and the next CM will be the Russian Front 1941-1945. ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
  5. "Bridge at Remagen" is available at amazon.com for $11.95. Do a search in the book section and you'll find it. ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
  6. This is a nice web sight. Looks like a good source of info on tanks in WWII. ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
  7. By the way, your going to have trouble doing an accurate scenario on this as there was a railway tunnel at the far end of the bridge that the Germans used for cover and they tried to blow up the bridge with demolitian charges. Both of these issues are not modeled in the game, but good luck anyway. ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
  8. Why don't you go to Amazon.com and do a search for "Bridge at Remagen", or something like that. I remember there was a book by that name, or close to it, published in the late '60s'. If it is not in print anymore, do a search by subject and see what you get. Even check your local library. ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
  9. Tiger, these are the best you've done yet. For the first time I have no suggestions on how to improve on this. You've earned your degree. ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
  10. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by TwoSheds: Yes, but it works for now only because the EXE file is the only thing that has changed since version 1.02(everything else was just cosmetic changes). [This message has been edited by TwoSheds (edited 08-19-2000).]<HR></BLOCKQUOTE> Thanks for the info!! ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
  11. There are several training scenarios in the game. One has a walk through in the manual which should show you basic infantry and armor tactics. The others give you training exersizes to practice on. You are supposed to play these against the AI and the briefing at the beginning of each scenario tells you which side you are to play. Try these out to practice on. ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
  12. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by KMan: pcelt, This has been mentioned before (when 1.03 came out), if you are on a Windows platform, simply rename one of the executables, put them both in the correct directory, then just run the one you need at the moment. You can setup shortcuts to them as well, so starting one of the versions is simply clicking a different icon. I've been doing this with 1.01 and 1.03 no problems. I now have 1.04 setup the same way, but haven't tried it yet, assuming it will work because of the way CM is distributed. -Kyle<HR></BLOCKQUOTE> Am I reading this right, can you set up two versions in the same game directory just as long as you know which version exe. you're using? ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
  13. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by Calvin: Thanks fellahs! I initially directed the unzip to my Cmbo folder in program files, that should do it, eh? C.<HR></BLOCKQUOTE> Read the read me files for full instructions. You have to replace the old exe. with the new and any bmp files or wav files have to be put into their proper folders. READ the read me file!
  14. Very nice work. You're getting to be a master at this. Now give it that grungy,"I've been in combat too long" look. ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
  15. Make sure that 4th mortar crew still has a weapon. Mortar and machinegun crews can have their weapons knocked out and maybe you missed it. ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
  16. No preference with me. If I play against the AI, I play the attacker because the AI is a bit stupid as the attacker. I like the German equipment but sometimes a certain scenario determines my choice. ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
  17. The problem with "farming" out the vehicles to whoever wants to try one is that they would wind up with tons of German stuff and no Russian or Italian or anything else. Just look at how many German vehicle mods there are as opposed to Allied vehicles. ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
  18. I'm pretty sure that BTS is considering this situation since they modeled CM after Squad Leader and this limitation is in ASL. Perhaps require a tank out of C&C to pass a "die roll" before it carrys out the orders you give it. It would be similar to infantry units that have broken before and are now unreliable. This will also have to be addressed in the 1940 version for the Western Front in France with British and French tanks which lacked radios. ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
  19. I say if you enjoy the game, play it until you can upgrade to a better computer. I played a free version of SP that came with my Fighting Steel game and I could'nt get into it because I could'nt see anything. The 2D battlefield and looking down on everything drove me nuts, so I went back to my East Front/West Front games with pleasure. After playing the CM gold demo, however spoiled me on East Front/West Front. I could'nt enjoy either game after that. So if you enjoy SP play it and have fun. It's only a game. ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
  20. Not gamey at all. This is a proper and effective use of armor. Think of the tank or SP gun as artillery on wheels or tracks. There's a film of street fighting in Berlin at the end of the war where the Russians were leveling entire city blocks using tanks and SP guns. ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
  21. They look very good. Glad to see someone doing something with the Allied vehicles. This probably can't be done in the game program but would'nt it be cool to see holes in the tanks where the AT rounds penetrate? ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
  22. Now you got it! Just throw in little bits of color from the background. Not too much though. I asked this before, what paint program are you using? All I've got is the one that comes with Windows 98, not good enough for this type of work. ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
  23. Thanks Madmatt. Your sight is the second most valuable one in my bookmarks. The first is Battlefront.com. Question; is BTS planning to include any of your mods in upcoming CMs? ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
  24. Glad to see someone doing something with the Allied vehicles. I've seen enough Tiger mods. My understanding is that much of the winter camo was whitewash applied with brushes and brooms that would wash off with the first good rain. They would even use mud to try and hide the olive drab paint. Very nice job. ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
  25. I hope not. Nothing more boring than watching a computer play with itself. ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
