  1. Really depends on how fast and powerful your computer is. With mine I'm maxed out at a battalion sized force on a medium sized map. Anything larger and I have serious slowdowns in processing. I have an AMD 6k 450 processor. ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
  2. Would these mods change everything in CM over to Japanese so that all of the German units and vehicles would then be changed or would these mods be an addition to the German units and vehicles in CM? ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
  3. He was the son of Otto Klemperer, a famous symphony conductor. The funniest scene from Hogan's Heroes is when Col. Klink is playing with his string quartet and everytime it's his turn to play a part of the piece of music he's always badly off key. I understand he was in reality a very good musician. He was one of the great character actors of the 60s. ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight. 4. I may have found out why I was freezing up. I do a defrag on my system every two days and now no problems. ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
  5. The scarcity of this tank was due to small numbers of the 17pdr AT gun. AT units were given higher priority than the tank producers. The Americans wanted to put 17pdrs in some of their Shermans but the British said there was not enough. I've often wondered why we did'nt put 90mms in Shermans as a stop gap before the Pershings came out. Does anyone know what weapon the Isrealis used in their "Super Shermans"? ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
  6. I've used mortar HTs before and they worked the same as SPs. I don't recall them changing facing before they fired. I know that when you highlight them and punch tab the camera faces to the rear of the HT. ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
  7. I've seen a few more lock-ups than is normal on mine as well. I have a ; Compaq AMD 450 with a Nvidia TNT32, Win 98, DirectX 7, Essolo sound system. My drivers are 4.12 from the Jaton co. Don't know if this is a fluke or a result of the beta patch. ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
  8. BeBop is just mad because I'm slaughtering his Canadians from my nice, deep foxholes. However, I agree that it would be nice to have optional foxholes and to have foxholes as a part of the fortifications menu in QBs or design your own scenarios. Hello BeBop. ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
  9. One thing you have to remember about the "Blitzkrieg" period of the war and the early Russian Front. The German tanks were not overwhelming masters of the battlefield. There were no MkIVs with the long 75s, Panthers or Tigers; only MkIIs, MkIIIs and the French had the best tanks in the world at that time. What the French lacked was an effective armored warfare policy. Those players who insist on only playing as Germans will have to adopt a more defensive attitude or see their tanks turned into funeral pires like the Allies do in CMBO. What the Germans will have on their side is a more effective combined arms doctrine, better air cover and dynamic leadership. It should be the best of the CM games. ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
  10. Ditto. ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
  11. Thanks for the info. ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
  12. Would'nt a pillbox be the same as a gun inside a building? If you put a 75mm or 88mm gun in a building you're going to have to reinforce the structure so the concussion does'nt bring the building down and you will want to improve the defensive structure of the building so it's not so easy to knock out the gun. Can you put a pillbox and a building in the same location? ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
  13. If you want a true to life example of how hard it is to drop a bridge, read about the bridge at Remagen. It was an iron railroad bridge that took demolition charges, air bombardment and artillery rounds and still held up. Only after several days of heavy use by American mechanized units did part of the span collapse. This is hard to depict in 30 to 60 minutes of combat in CM. ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
  14. I downloaded and played the CC1 demo before I had even heard of CM. I was envolved with Talonsoft's East Front/West Front games and was used to their turn based system. I found CC1 to be hard to follow or control and felt that I was a slave to the game. East Front/West Front were more easy for me to follow and control so I deleted the CC1 demo. Later, after finding CM, I disgarded my Talonsoft games, though I still enjoy my Battlefield games. When CC5 came out I tried the demo and felt the same about it that I did for the CC1 game so it's history. For pure enjoyment nothing beats CM. As a lover of the ASL games CM is heaven sent and is my primary computer game. ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
  15. Does'nt most AT ordinance need some travel distance to build up speed to have good penetration? Maybe the U.S. 90mm was too close to enter the KT. ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
  16. Could you tell us a little about what Nijel Dam is? Was this one of the dams the 1st Army was trying to take during the Hurtgen mess? ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
  17. Madmatt, if you want a real delight try barbecueing a turkey in a Webber grill. It beats out the oven baked turkey by a mile. ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
  18. I use the address for the Cm part of Rugged Defense. Please let us know if you change that. ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
  19. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by Madmatt: Yeah, I am not sure either. If it was a penetration due to the Shot Trap the round would actually penetrate the upper deck and not the turret though. That is caused by the incoming shell being deflected downward by the shape and angle of the gun mantle. Hmmm....Have to wait until Charles wakes up from his food coma for the real verdict. Also, which Panther model were you guys engaging as the late model G doesn't suffer from the shot trap. Madmatt [This message has been edited by Madmatt (edited 11-24-2000).]<HR></BLOCKQUOTE> I'm sure mine was the early model. ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
  20. Did you give the tank an ambush command? You might also target the enemy tank even though it is out of line of sight. This has been discussed before and is one of the weaknesses of the game. Each turn you have to specify a target for your tank to keep it from switching to a crew or infantry unit. It takes some practice to control tanks in close combat. ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
  21. I have in my CM game file a self designed scenario with tanks alone, German vs. British. On the British side I have one Wolverine and on the German side there are two Panthers, among other tanks for both sides. The two Panthers happen to encounter the Wolverine and in the ensueing action the Wolverine manages to take out both Panthers in consecutive turns with frontal shots. In both kills of the Panther the kill report says that a weak point in the Panther's armor is the cause. This happens in a matter of less than two minutes. I don't think I've seen a luckier Wolverine crew. ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
  22. You're probably right. Some of the most intense wargamers are people in the military. ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
  23. Franko, have you checked out the maps section at Moon's site at www.gamesofwar.de/ ? I've never seen one of these maps myself but they are supposed to be detailed. ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
  24. Like the winter mods, especially the pine trees. The tall pines in the original game looked like California redwoods, not native to northern Europe. ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
  25. Wargames in Isreal would be a bit redundant. Why play at war on a computer when all you have to do is step outside your front door and experience the real thing. ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
