RoW II: The Boots & Tracks Brawl (Part V)
wadepm replied to Treeburst155's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
Sheesh...my first game started on 7 June and the last ended on 31 July! What have you guys been doing...working again? Talking to people outside of our species? Come on!! -
What`s your favourite Russian tank?
wadepm replied to Tacitus's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
In my PanzerBlitz days I liked the SU-85. But from my subsequent readings it seems it was just a stopgap until the SU-100 came out. What was Russian doctrine for use of the SU's? Similar to the German or just barrel straight ahead? -
A few photos of Stalingrad today.

That is one of the ugliest web pages I have ever visited, but the pics are cool. Thanks. -
With the advent of the pin cushion kill, I was wondering what happened to these tanks. If they had one or two partial hull penetrations were they repaired in the field, stripped and used for parts or sent back to the factory - still under warranty I imagine. If they were repaired in the field was the repair as good as the original? I imagine not, and if not.....will the weak point be modelled in CMBB?

Hey, do you think CombatGeneral might be Rob1 in disguise? -
Don't forget to order TacOps4 too!

262, I would put "liberating" in quotes.

A couple of quick observations that pertain to this thread...I hope: I noticed when targeting T-34s that were hull down my little 37mm would have a hit chance of say 55% and a kill chance of good, but as soon as the beast topped the rise my hit chance would go up to 85% but the kill chance would go down to none. I am assuming that the computer is computing the kill chance based on the hull in this case rather than just the turret. My question is, will the TacAI of my pea shooter still target the turret because it knows that is the only place it can penetrate? Killing T-34s is a 3 step process; key hole your placement of the AT gun, button up the T-34 and force the accompaning infantry to go to ground as early as possible using mortars or MGs. Because of the long delay times in getting Russian tanks moving they are frequently going to be given (by humans) orders that are simple and sometimes a little too long, i.e. they are going to get way ahead of the infantry at times and that is when you can pick them off.

What about the other way - can we have smaller increments? I am thinking of 1 meter or even 0.5 meters for those stepp scenarios. The current limit of 2.5 meters creates too much of a stair-step looking map.

Count me in for a preCMBB CMBO tourney. I like CombinedArms idea for the scenarios too. -
Relative Spotting revisited
wadepm replied to James Crowley's topic in Combat Mission: Beyond Overlord
Exactly Kip! All of our current problems with spotting (well a good portion of them anyway) will be solved when CM becomes truly multiplayer. I have the faith and the patience that this will come to pass some day, do you? -

Very good, but I see quite a bit gluing going on there. Nice all the same. Does he let his kids play with them? -

Here is that pick from Redeker's game of "Sounds in the Night." I guess it pretty much speaks for itself. -

I was the Germans in both "We Can't Wait" and Dompaire. I lost a couple of 251's in the town to straffing attacks but I can't understand how the planes were able to hit them. The plane's axis of attack was perpendicular to the street where the tracks were and they were snug up against the side of the building too. In Dompaire I lost a lot of tracks to the planes and had one plane take out a Panther while shocking a second cat and damaging the gun on a third. Ouch! Greg, email me your pics and I will post them for you. -
Wild Bill's Rumblings of War AAR Thread
wadepm replied to Kingfish's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
I completely ignored the flag in my rear until it was too late and lost it. Did anyone think to leave a platoon back to guard that flag? My thinking was that the Germans would have to cross the river to get to it and I had the other side well under control so I didn't think I needed anyone right on the flag. I had a reserve platoon in the town that never saw action so I had the troops to do it too. Poop. -

American and British Stuart difference

Here is a quote from another source about the turret baskets on the M3 and the M5: They have a lot of nice interior pics of both the M3 and the M5 at this site: AFV Interiors -
American and British Stuart difference
wadepm replied to Thin Red Line's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
I read somewhere, I think it was the site that KMEAD noted earlier, that the turret basket on the M3A3 was smaller than on the M5 which made it harder for the gunner to load the weapon. -
Wild Bill's Rumblings of War AAR Thread
wadepm replied to Kingfish's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
Very good. The battle is "Crisis" and the location is very close! Process of elimination was the way to go, RoW scenarios are all very different. The turn is 7. The Amis had just broken through the initial line of German defenders and were starting to target a platoon holed up in the town. If it had been turn 4 I might have done better! Well, here it is again...the thread is slowly fading away. So here is a little contest. Looking at the pick below can you tell me what scenario it is and what turn?
